Also, I should’ve mentioned at the end: Wheelchairs are fly and cute as hell. Sometimes I wish everyone looked like me, not me looking like them. That’s how much I actually like my wheelchair! I never had a phase where I hated my wheelchair, and the only time I don’t like my wheelchair is due to inaccessibility, ableism, and stigmas surrounding disability. ALSO:: my chair is a whopping 35lbs which sucks!!!!!!!!! next time i am prioritizing lightweight but durable features.
Hello, my name is Ali, from the Arab country of Iraq. I use Google Translate to talk to you. Can you help me go out and see the Western world? I hope to learn the English language.. Thank you. By the way, you are amazing in the video. I hope you are always happy
Hi I'm 18 years old wheelchair user continental I had spinal surgery when I was 10 I've been through a lot of challenges since I was born in a bad country in a bad time (Iraq 2005) after I had the surgery the doctor told me that I'm able to walk if get proper physical therapy and currently I'm living in turkey, unfortunately, turkey doesn't offer any financial aid for foreigners and the expenses are ruthlessly expensive after all the porpoise of writing this comment is to seek help from you guy's since we understand each other
thank you 😂 tbh I have been thinking about mostly posting on Instagram since it’s easier but I think I will continue to make vids on here every now and then!!
Im going through Numotion here in Oregon and I’m at about 8 months to get mine, I’m not paraplegic, i can use my legs, so maybe that is why it took me longer! I too am getting the Aero Z and is how i found this video. I am looking forward to get this chair so I can work part time because my legs dont work like regs(regular humans) i have a full fused spine and it makes my legs go out! Watching your video makes me feel better about asking for a super low back rest!!!
Hi Tara..I have the same chair. My back rest was also too high. I adjusted the height myself. Since your fairly new to your chair, I may look into having it done for you. But it is something that can be done. Check with your area before trying it.
Took me 5 months to get mine. Would of been a month sooner but Numotion was remembering that I confirmed with them to order my chair. I choose a green frame and that added 3+ weeks compared to the default option. I thought mine was going to arrive ready to go. No, not the case at all. I had worked with the Numotion rep and my PT with the rental identical chair but it hurt my shoulders pretty good after one trip to the grocery store. I’d recommend you have the chair delivered to your PT so it can be fine tuned asap. I didn’t realize get much of a choice of the brand of chair but after about 6 months of being in the aero z and having multiple sessions to adjust it, I’m excited to think about my chair.
hi Tara, my TiLite took nearly a year, but it's the best custom(wheeled prosthetic). you talked about your stock backrest, I ordered mine with a jay3, it is 12", but they do have them in shorter heights, highly recommend them, it relieved so much pressure. my casters are 4" softroll frogs, my handrims are the naturalfits, so much easy all day wheeling.
Think you might be able to lower your backrest. It is adjustable if you take off all the strapping back there under cover. You will need to unscrew the bolt under your push handles to get it off. Totally doable is you have allen wrenches! I didn't know this about my chair and when I found out I was super pissed... I had the same back pain and loss of mobility with mine and I could have totally lowered if myself. You can also replace the fabric part of the backrest with either a solid back or the breathable fabric that is quieter. I definitely developed repetitive motion shoulder injuries from a chair too wide but you can change that next chair.... Get a seam ripper and you can remove the name tags on fabric. You can also slide your sideguards back a little so the are profiled to your wheels. You have plenty of space to move them back and it will make transfers easier with them back further. You can also screw your sideguards in tight so they don't come out.
You’re so helpful, thank you! Yeah Tycon told me I could lower my backrest by a couple inches but it wasn’t really enough to my liking so they ordered new parts to take it from 15 to 10.5! As for my side guards, they are as tightened as they can get and only one of them wiggles like that, my bf says there is something wrong with the bracket which is 👍🏻 and I will move the side guards back since they weren’t put in the best place! Thank you again for your help, it’s validating 😂
Just curious. Did your insurance pay for your wheelchair or was it an out of pocket expense? I have very good insurance, however I can not find a wheelchair company or distributor that bills insurance.
what you said about numotion couldn't be further from the truth! I went to see the physical therapist and wheelchair guy and I wanted 3 months and wanted an update I gotten no responds once so ever! I'm hoping a new company comes around besides numotion when I get my next chair!
Big Castors do help if you’re very active since they do not get fought so easily! I love them but it’s because I go into hiking trails a lot and I’ve been in a chair over 30 years
I'm FINALLY getting my new chair in a little less than a week after having ordered it 8 months ago and I'm so excited I feel like I'm getting a new car haha
The last one I T6 complete, so everything below my chest I have maybe half of your backrest, and I fused around t6, but they all suck, but I would trade you or just give you my old one. I just would like to try a high-back one. Especially since mine is made for you and yours for me lol. Also, roho cushions are great, but I want to try that, Jay. I have 2 seat backs also, and I get a chair every other year. So if you want it'll send it to ya
I've had to organise mine all out of pocket in Australia (government schemes are so hard to access and I have rare illnesses which make it harder so I don't qualify) my order was finally placed today and estimated to be done it 3-4 months. But I had the measuring done 3-4 weeks ago, and they wouldn't order until full amount was paid and cleared. Took them 2 weeks alone to give the quote to the OT. I'm getting a tilite aero Z
That’s the model I have as well! It’s a good chair overall, not perfect especially in terms of weight but there’s not much you can do about that when it’s an aluminum chair that’s adjustable. Good luck tho!!! Sounds like it’s gonna be a little while before you get it though, but I hope it helps you out!!!! Let me know if you have any questions :)
@@ParaTara @Para Tara I'm glad it's a good chair overall! Yeah anything other than aluminium was going to be towards $10,000 don't know who has that cash laying around but I sure don't. I'm sure it'll be far lighter than the crappy, heavy and clunky ex hospital wheelchair I've been using for the past 1 and a half years though, to be fair anything would be an upgrade lol Thank you, a while to go but itll definitely be worth the wait, I'll definitely reach out if I have any questions, thank you lovely! I hope you're well xx
@@palespice2036 I am actually looking at a titanium chair by hands on concepts which is gonna be about $5,500, it’s the cheapest titanium chair that I’ve found! I think I’m going to buy it out of pocket at some point soon bc my current chair is so heavy. But, yes, ANYTHING is an upgrade compared to a hospital chair!! I hope your new chair suits your needs much better!
last time I was fitted for a manual chair was 1995 when I was 19. I didn't get to choose the kind of chair I wanted. had the chair until 2008. last 2 manual chairs were used chairs. my insurance medicaid won't pay for manual chairs because in 1998 they bought my first power chair and have bought me 2 more. my chairs never had spoke wheels,
I’ve been waiting for 18 months to get a new chair. Then after all that the chair ended up having to be returned because no matter how it was set up it would flip over backwards just by sitting in it.
I live in the UK and went privertly and did it through the dealership called magmobility and company sunrise medical its took me about 3 months should get my chair next week or week after❤
I’m with the VA and I received my wheelchair in six weeks. I also got my smart drive relatively fast as well. Six months? My goodness that’s a bit ridiculous.
I have the TiLite aero z with ultra violet fixtures like the casters and the axle for my big wheels. I chose the white to compliment the ultra Violet and of course the black parts that don’t change lol. My back Rest is shorter than yours but it’s made the same, my next one I want one that molds to my back so I can have better posture. I have the Jay x2 seat cushion. The permanent tires and my wheel spokes are purple but I ordered them that way. Yours is nice and I think the criticisms are fair and that first one should have helped you choose a better backrest to suit your specific needs.
Yeah they’re gonna order parts to make it 10.5 inches (compared to my 15) since if I simply adjusted it with the parts I already have it would only take it down a couple inches!
Folding backrest footplates etc make a lot of noise always no matter what a solid fixed backrest and footrest is the way to go maybe for your next chair? The less moving parts the better with any chair
Just came across your video, thanks so much for all the detailed info! I will be doing an assessment with an ATP soon for my 1st wheelchair so I'm looking into things to consider. Do you have any thoughts on folding vs rigid frame in terms of ease of pushing and added weight? Thanks again!
I prefer rigid bc they’re usually more lightweight! I’ve never had a folding chair tho, so that’s all I know! My hospital style wheelchair was folding but of course that’s a little different. Since this vid was filmed, i got a lower hard shell backrest and that has been a game changer for my back pain too! I like it because I can lean back into it and it’s a lot more comfortable now! Of course that adds some weight too tho! If you have any other Qs, you can mssg me on my IG to be easier if you want: @tara_shett !!!
@@ParaTara Thank you so much for your thoughts! Yes, I was thinking rigid because of more lightweight too- I think it will give me more independence! Also, thank you for the info about the backrest- I will message you on IG for more info! 😊
@@jasonparkergimplifedisable684 omg yeah I would freak.. maybe for my next set of wheels I can try to get spinergy and my insurance will cover it?? One can only hope cuz that is my dreammm 😍
Most establishments have doors that open automatically, sidewalks are made with curbed lips and there are special parking spaces designated for the wheelchair-bound, a red placard denotes non-permanent, most people in Los Angeles live and play in their cars anyways🍔🌮👻
The TI wheelchair is not available among the Arabs. There is a chair of poor quality that is not useful. I hope you will help me go out to your country so that I can see the world.💔
