Mike Love The ear tabs are called ear tabs without that thing. That thing in the wig glossary is called a wig spring. They are either metallic or plastic, I prefer the plastic. But they are either nowhere to be found or they are expensive with expensive shipping.In this case I did the wig springs using some plastic collar holders. All this package has 200 of them and it cost me like 2~3 euros if I remember correctly!

SweetNatti well the shorter the wig the less seams you wanna have, you can't avoid them but you can keep them minimum by cutting some parts, like the huge triangular int he back I wouldn't keep it all. Sort wigs usually need more care in the making because the whole wig is like a parting line and the whole head perimeter is a hairline equivalent. Long hair can hide many things that short hair can't, if we talk about a really short men's haircut then we need undetectable lace even in the back and not more than 2 strands per knot! This is why men's toupees are usually more expensive than female toppers or wigs!

Thanks for your response. I am struggling with work out how to start because I figured that making a short wig would take greater skills than I have. Do you make short wigs? If so, it would be great to see how preparing the cap and the hair differs.

The darker lace is usually stronger and the holes are a little bigger so the wig lasts longer (doesn't rip) and is easier/cheaper to make. This is why the darker lace is usually in more inconspicuous areas :)

+Abram Patrick Abesamis The lace can be different, usually I make everything with less darts now, unless it needs wefts in the back. The thread I use is nylon thread for sewing. It is also used in quilt making. That plastic thing is meant to be used in collars for Shirts. I lost the link to where I got it, i was definitely from ebay and it was rather cheap.

+Ryan Hynes I have a video where I ventilate thread to fill a hole in a piece. But it is not "easier" it is just another technique, the easiest of all is to make the wig cap (and this is an old video, my wig caps are slightly different and they depend on the kind of wig) and then I remove it and pass the stitches with a sewing machine that does the best job for this. Super secure, as fine as possible and consistent. But everyone have their own techniques who they might find better than others'

+Karim Noorali Well you do not have open lace in the back but rather a fold or some ribbons, you put clips and combs wherever the customer needs and also an important thing is an elastic band from above one ear all the way back to the other ear. This way the elastic creates a slight tension to the forehead area and thus the peice clings to the skin without the need of a glue.

Val Sherlock You are? where is your job shown? I am not the best wig maker in the world. i like watching other people's work and I never write bad things on other people's ways. Nobody does the same things to others. I can count some youtuber wig makers that I know here and I am sure none of us does exactly the same thing. Because I don't even know your name. you also don't have any videos to bring your name back into good standing so I guess you allow me, the dreadful person, to make th name for th wig makers. On the other hand who told you that I represent any wig makers apart from myself? I am showing people how I do staffs not how you should do it. And in the end of the day people have gotten my wigs and they said they have never seen anything so realistic. You can be a hater if you want or you can teach the people how to do it your way. Until you bring yourself into showing people your work you can have a seat, or have several seats because in my channel people say they found what they were looking for.

Val Sherlock most wigmakers do have a bad name. because you will have to search far and wide before you can find one who is even willing to part with any information, or offer up any tips to those who wish to learn. even when offered to pay for lessons they cannot be so bothered to teach this dying art. such a shroud of 'secrecy' amongst them.
