You should help that customer. Sounds like a lawsuit against Toyota because they played him for cash. With all the evidence you found You're so right he should get his money back.
@@Twitch25iit actually does he can get a refund and more for it because it’s a certified Toyota dealership. If they called and showed evidence he has a strong case
Occam's Razor. The second the missing tax on the invoice for parts was highlighted, it became obvious. Someone at Toyota HB is committing fraud and likely taking kickbacks for it. $630 for a $54 coilpack proves it
extended warranty companies have given me trouble before with not wanting to authorize what was recommended but instead pick and choose what theyll pay for and often require tear down before approving work and deciding what they’ll approve when its an internal engine issue. but in this case it seems like something shady is going on with the dealership itself
Working at a dealer, specifically parts, sometimes the warranty companies will deny any job that would be done right and pick and choose ONLY what needs to be replaced. And that checks out with the "only replaced one head and head gasket on one side" part. However, the coils and plugs is definitely some shady shit going down. The fact there's no tax is the biggest red flag
This explains almost exactly what probably happened to this poor fella ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fjrfXVpU42U.htmlsi=65IscWXx31z6B9Kc
Honestly, he probably just had an uneasy feeling. Finding a good mechanic is hard, finding an honest mechanic is almost impossible. The only way to sift through the shit is to know the bare minimum of what it takes to keep a vehicle running and not let a sales rep/mechanic intimidate you when they are aaked questions.
The owner bought a stellantis with 150000 miles for $15000 and paid $4000 for an extended warranty that lasted 30000 miles. Let’s be honest, they got what they deserved considering how little research they must have done. How this guy was able to pay cash, considering how financially irresponsible this car was, is beyond me.
And they wonder why nobody trust dealer mechanics any more 🙄 Anything that isn't 100% covered under warranty is being done by a trusted independent mechanic on my car.
Not all of us are horrible and from my experience independent shops are iffy as well. Its a problem with the whole industry. If you ever find a mechanic and shop that does good work and is honest keep them no matter if a dealer or not. This particular instance seems very fraudulent and the tech may or may not be into it.
A lot of dealerships suck, and so do mechanics partnered with them. I had a turbo issue (obd reader picked up turbo sensor error codes) Went to a dealership, they changed all four of my injectors for some f* reason, car had the same problems. Went to a second one for a quote and they wanted a 150$ fee to “diagnose the issue” and then “at least 500$ to take down the turbo and service it”. Told them no. went to an indipendent mechanic, the issue was a small tube under the engine, the turbo vacuum pressure depression tube. It had a tear in it. Fixed it in no time
Subaru just tried to do this to me with my car. They wanted me to pay $3000 plus for a "problem" that wasn't the real problem. My dad took my car somewhere else. The new place couldn't even find the "problem" that Subaru was talking about! Can't find honest people anymore, it seems. I'm glad you guys are honest and trying to help this guy out. It's just sad what people will do for money.
Absolutely need an update to this, whether it's a youtube short or a whole video! Love the channel, just gained a subscriber. Keep up the great and honest work!
I came across this video and was like I’ll check it out. I appreciate your honesty and going over all the paperwork to figure out what was going wrong with the dealership and how to proceed. I wish I lived near you. I would be a customer for life.
i ended up having the same experience with a local subaru dealer. i had their loaner vehicle so long they made me bring it in for maintenance. went through 3 motors without me even having the car. only to have a brand new motor purchased from subaru be installed wrong didnt even leave the lot and the engine stalled and wouldnt start again. when taking it to a second shop they found the timing off valves bent and a slew of other stuff not done properly. if it wasnt for shops like you I woulda been on the hook for the $6200 it cost.
I bought a used 2012 dodge Durango, only had 105,000 miles on it. Was shown the carfax from the used car dealer but it never showed flood damage. Ended up going month by month having to get my transmission replaced. And always went through the “extended warranty” only to be told they weren’t going to cover the 3rd transmission. Was able to get a second opinion done and found out my ECU and TCU were completely fried. The TCU kept frying the transmission
@@ant3181for the life of me, I can not understand why someone would purchase a Stellantis vehicle considering how widely known it is that they are similar to KIA in reliability. Pre 2008 dodge and Jeep are not so bad but after the 08 crash when Stellantis bought them, they have been 💩.
I used to be a cashier for the service dept at a Toyota dealership. This entire video isn’t surprising. I've even experienced being told (by the same dealership) that my Prius had more problems than it actually did. I wouldn't trust any Toyota service dept with a ten foot pole.
Maybe you just worked at a scummy one. The ones here are great. The ones by a lot of my friends are also good. But at the same time we do know of some shit ones to avoid. All of us are ASE mechanics.
i love your guys videos theyre so knowledgeable and interesting to watch! im a lube tech at a honda dealership and i aspire to be like you guys at some point!
This is why i don’t trust dealers because some of them will half ass and play you for a fool ladies its important that u have a man or a guy friend or even a family member guy that is with u when mechanic maintenance is needed for your car cause some guys will rob u and thats facts not all but they are a few out there and shout out to the real mechanics that care about their customers 🎉 thats why i like this channel because they show the real deal of the issues with out hiding nothing.
I work as a service advisor at a VW dealership and this sounds like straight up warranty fraud. Weve gotten a few customers in the past with similar stories that finally just come to us cause the ford or Subaru dealer they bought a used VW and extended warranty from has had their car 6 times in the last 3 months and it still isnt fixed, but when i look at the paper work, just like this jeep in the video, NOTHING adds up or makes sense. Thousands of dollars in "wire repairs" or "engine overhaul" or whatever BS they come up with and the car is just straight up broken. The other thing we see a lot is dealers (including some other VW dealers) trying to use the TDI (dieselgate) warranty extension to cover things that arent covered or in a couple rare cases things that they broke or replaced without needing to and they dont want to take the loss. Shits wild.
The shitty thing is that the third party warranty is gonna insist he go back to the shop that did the work. My company requires a minimum 12/12 warranty on all parts and labor and we will always hold that shop responsible, because we don't like paying for things twice. Although, them screwing the company over so bad may change that. I would have the customer call into the customer service line, explain your findings, and have THEM advise on what needs to be done. This should've had an engine replaced from the beginning. Anything 90k and over will automatically get an engine with my company, since it's ALWAYS cheaper to R&R the engine vs rebuilding it. Plus, there's less liability/room for error.
Fix it and sell it asap. I had a 2015 Grand Cherokee 3.6 V6 with misfire issues and no check engine light. Replaced all spark plugs and the ignition coil for cylinder 3. That fixed the misfires, but then I heard the infamous pentistar tick, this means that the needle bearing for 1 or more rockers had failed. This means that it likely chewed into my intake or exhaust cam. At this point the car was running well enough with no check engine lights. I sold that thing so fast. Oh and this all happened at 85,000 miles with an engine that was maintained regularly.
I have a 2020 Grand Cherokee and I’m noticing what I think is a misfire. I only have like 76k on it. For example, when I’m going 80mph on the highway, my rpm’s are usually at roughly 2100 rpm’s but sometimes goes to like 3500 rpm’s. It’s freaking me out. Maybe it’s what you’re saying what happened with yours. I would love some advice.
The 3.6 has a horrible oil system, all the oil drains back after a day of no use so it’s the king of dry startups. Baxter makes an adapter that uses spin on filters to solve that.
the edits are amazing, i love this channel. Going through the paper work and figuring out what is going on, how fking dumb were the people that were trying to scam the warranty lol
I like this guy. When you buy a used car with a 3rd party extended warranty, you DON'T have to take it to the dealer you brought it from. Take it to a mechanic you know and trust or to the manufacturers dealer whom knows the vehicle. That is what I did and never had an issue. I would definitely contact the warranty company and send copies of all the records to them.
My head would have exploded just trying to comprehend how bad he got bent over and can still walk. Definitely contact the 3rd party warranty company and show them your findings. See if they will buy another motor fer sure. Something definitely off in the paperwork and the technician, service writer also. If could could add the part where Clark Griswold goes off at the Christmas party....
I noticed by the engine cover that is the 3.6 uprate engine. We have been seeing black lines between cylinder 3 and 5 on the block. They are a cracked block. Also if the shop installed a Mopar reman head they come with spark plugs in that head. Maybe they were changing the spark plugs on the left side. Also we have seen the high lift cam lobes fail from a bad rocker arm roller. On the 3.6 pentastar engine 1,3,5 is on the left side.
Toyota dealers in Colorado are also this scummy when It comes to used cars. They only make sure the used cars in their lot are safe to drive and not if they are properly maintained or repaired.
Find a shop you can trust homie. I have a 22 Camry and have not once taken it into Toyota for anything. They called talking about a check up/oil change and after I told them I did the oil change and checkup they continued to try and convince me the other shop probably did it wrong. Then called a couple days later (same guy) asking me to come in for the same thing. Nothing but shady and red flags going off.
Those 3.6 have issues on the cylinder for p0303 I believe. There was a recall for that left cylinder replacement. Either way sucks for the customer to have to go through this
Great fkn job fellas. I have a mechanic that thoroughly inspects with 2 other guys by my town. I stopped going to the dealership because of the fckery they do like this.... You guys appreciate the opportunity to do these jobs that I would rather pay you guys then the damn dealership
I have a Buick Regal sportback and went to the dealership and got my oil changed and I noticed right away it lacked a little power 🤔 so when I got home I checked the oil and it was a whole quart of oil over!! Went to harbor freight and got a extraction oil kit and got the extra quart out!! 🤦♂️
Cylinder 1,3,5 are the easy cylinders to get to. 2,4,6 cylinders are underneath the intake manifold which requires the manifold to be taken out. The other shop only did the easy sparkplugs and coils. Dont know why they tore down the 2,4,6 cylinder head and never changed the spark plugs.
I know 2 service managers at 2 different dealerships and they don't know each other and both have told me you never take your vehicle to a dealership for repairs unless it's warranty work.
For the record. They only replaced 3 spark plugs (right side) because the new cylinder head (left side) comes with new plugs in it. So they replaced 3 plugs in right head and got new plugs with the new left cylinder head.
When I had my scion frs I took it to toyota of huntington beach for the check engine light. When I got there they said they couldnt get a code for the light next saying that they have to pull the engine telling me that it would cost $6000.
If the third party warranty is like some others I've heard of, they screw themselves by making dealers do barely related crap instead of actually paying to fix it right. I think they want to frustrate customers into not using the warranty!
Damn Toyota of Huntington Beach? I thought I was the only one having issues at that dealership. Came in For a Toyota care oil change and fluid top off not a single job was done. Coolant still low aswell as the oil
It’d be such a good feeling to tell that customer that they were ripped off by the other guys. Of course it sucks for the customer but you feel good letting them know and hoping they can get their money back or bring a lawsuit or something. You also gains customer for life probably. That’s how I’d feel if I was told I was getting ripped off. My oil change was over $100 when I went to the dealer after getting my new car so I started going back to the old shop I use. They’ve always been straight with me and haven’t overcharged so they earn my business.
9 times of out of 10 the warranty will try to buy the customer out of vehicle after seeing all the failures. This service advisor is working that warranty really well
After a certain amount of money is spent on the vehicle an aftermarket warranty will step in and try to buy the customer out there vehicle to crap it. At the end of the day the warranty company is there to make money, they don’t pay mark up labor or mark up parts pricing. Seen it in the dealership world why keep fixing a car that keeps breaking, it’s cheaper to scrap it and pay out the customer. The only warranties that almost never give up are the factory lifetime original owner warranties, they only give way when parts start get discontinued then they start buying one out of the vehicle.
They don't buy the vehicle they buy the warranty back. I have seen it a million times. Read the fine print. If the repairs exceed a certain amount they have the option to refund the cost of the warranty.
I hear ya doing all the investigating just seeing the miles and the symptoms it take 10 mins of diag to say just swap in a lower mileage motor. Charge the guy for a couple hours and do a right up with your findings including the sketchy stuff and say your recommend a full engine swap at their expense! I am very surprised they even sold him a warranty at 160k.
Just one coil pack for my 04 kia costs 300. Because its a special coil. Dual coil in one. Driver side only. The other side is wire ran to the passanger side.
@@Spectre94951 yeah there are standards and policies that they have to abide by in order to do so. I’m not familiar with Toyota but every dealership I’ve worked at, the manufacturer has the right to pull the license if they’re getting too many complaints, they can also audit the books
Wish all shops were you like guys no bs just get the job done RIGHT Even taking the time to overview a car for this person You know for sure this will never happen anywhere else ...
My roommate is going through the same thing rn but he’s under finance, he put 10k down owes 5k and his car just randomly dies and all electric is fine in terms of dealership checking but they told him if he’s unhappy he can put him into another car but mark this one as a repo so they aren’t out the money selling a lemon and I’m just like no bro sue them
My only issue with this video is when discussing the oil change that the dealership used 0 winter 20 instead of 5 winter 20. It's the same weight better temperature for colder climates.
I agree 100% with what you’re saying… the difference with the price is obvious… the dealer is most like $255 + /hr probably even $280. So almost 3x the amount /hr… so ofc he would save money with you guys. I work at the dealer and it’s just crazy how much they charge
