I completely understand the take. Customer service is usually miserable. But when you need a question answered and you just get a virtual assistant that starts giving out random solutions to nothing related, it’s about 70 times worse than someone that hates their life.

I’ve been a Uber eats driver on and off for years and this ep hits all the bases for me. Sal’s story about waiting for his food is just as frustrating for me as a driver. This same thing happened to me last week where I was offered 3 pickups in one go. 1 from Panera, and 2 from a local Asian spot. I pick up the Panera and wait 15-20 minutes for the Asian food. Once you get all the food Uber chooses the most efficient route to drop it all off. My first drop off is one of the Asian foods and as I’m driving there I get a furious call from the Panera customer about where’s there food. I have to explain all this and they cannot comprehend why their order isn’t a priority. I understand the frustration but I have no say in the order the food is delivered. It’s a real pain for the customers and the drivers. Moral of the story just go get your own take out. You’re getting screwed with the up charge on food prices as well as the delivery fees. I’ll gladly pick it up for you but save yourself the money and stress lol

Loooots of people in customer service broke under the stress during the lockdowns, the amount of demand skyrocketed and so did the amount of anger directed at you by people who didn't fully understand (or care about) the situation. The majority of the people I worked with ended up with open contempt for the customers, whereas I just quit and checked into a rehab 😄

@tammybaker7237 in theory $10 would be amazing. But for most food delivery services, the drivers get NOTHING from the company (DoorDash, Uber Eats, GrubHub, etc.) The ONLY money they make is from customer tips. So the tip has to cover their time (15-30 minuets), fuel, wear and tear on the vehicle, self employment costs when filing taxes, and they still have to pay taxes on that $10 too. All that considered, $10 is the minimum most drivers will accept. They won’t pick up orders that tip less than that.

I love that Joe got the full refund BUT Sal is the cheapest multi-millionaire with a 10 season/SYNDICATED tv show, podcastS, Merch, multiple comedy tours and owns multiple homes there is. a) If you're ever put on hold by a customer service rep, you're most likely on "mute" and not "on hold". b) My job was outsourced a few years ago, and we had to train our replacements (from India). Listening to them on the phone with customers was cringe-worthy. I feel your pain.

Run a short video series where you follow Sal working at one of the lowest paid phone customer service jobs in the city. Would love to see him provide amazing customer service for 8 hours a day with two 15 minutes breaks for minimum wage while meeting all metrics the job is expecting, with the tools and training that employer provides.

I’m a trainer for a call center and honestly we do the best we can with those who are hired. The company I work for uses a temp agency to hire reps who can work towards a permanent position if they do well. Sometimes we get people who don’t even know how to navigate different internet tabs, or how to open a document 😂

I worked for the delivery service that Sal was talking about and yeah some people just don’t care. Personally I wanted big tips and 5stars and I knew what it was like being a customer, so when I took two or three orders at once, I texted the customers letting them know I was doing that AND I would ask the employees of the restaurants how long the wait time will be so I can figure out if I should deliver the other orders first or wait. It just sucks that you get drivers that don’t care and then the customers don’t want to use the service anymore, when other drivers (like myself) are busting our asses trying to give customers at least a decent experience * Some orders come in two or three orders. The app does not let you choose one sometimes. And if you decline an order it affects your score, which affects how many orders you get in the future. So don't be mad at your driver for accepting multiple orders. Be mad at the app. Plus the app does not pay the drivers a lot so taking multiple orders means getting paid enough for rent. So, please, be kinder/compassionate towards everyone.

It seems like he tipped before the food came, which is a major problem these days. Why would I tip before receiving goods and services? It should be in response to quality. If you were a good driver and this other guy sucked it should be reflected, but it can only be reflected after the fact. This happens everywhere nowadays.

Sal described the EXACT protocals of EI/service canada agents. they actually TRAIN you to follow steps to figure out when/who to escalate 75% of calls to a higher level! and when you (as the employee) don't follow those nonsense steps (ultimately pissing off yourself and your caller), they axe you

I worked for a bank's call center for a decade. All of the calls were recorded and a random 10 of them were listened to and "scored" every month for each agent. I've had to fire people for providing bad customer service. AND if the agent scored high marks, they got a bonus.

If it comes through door dash you gotta complain through doordash lol. Those orders aren't even accessible through the restaurants system a lot of the time. Better to order at the restaurant and let them doordash it for you. I work at a pizza place. Door dash is the worst. And they steal a lot of food.

As a Costco worker who deals with customers everyday, after dealing with what we dealt with during the pandemic, the freak outs, the attacks, the words that were said to us…it will take years until I can move past it. I’ve seen peoples true side and I will never give them the same service I once did. Customers brought this on themselves

At my prior employer we had a phone number that was the same as a similar company but the area code was different. People would call so frustrated with their customer service that they would refuse to hang up even after I told them they had the wrong company. They just wanted someone to stay on the phone with them. LOL

it's not that customer service is disappearing Dianna. corporations prioritize their bottomline over customer service, resulting in lowered job requirements, insufficient training, and dissatisfied customers ( Sal leaving scathing reviews because he had to redo his sneaker order). you asked what we can do, which is unironically very wholesome and funny, but in all actuality we can not do a thing about it. we can only hope that individuals in positions of power prioritize the well-being of employees and customers over shareholder interests. customer service workers deserve better tools and training, but like any industry, there are some bad apples. the simplicity of the work attracts unmotivated people, leading to a culture of minimal effort. due to this preconceived notion, customers often struggle to distinguish between personal neglect and systemic failures within the company.

"Being recorded for quality assurance" Is there not for the customer but for the employees being "quality checked" to make sure they are following company policy. Its just legal bullshit for all the people who have ruined it for everybody. Also this should have sparked the battle= Customer service: person vs AI.

I know exactly how you feel Joe I'm worried every single day about where my next meal is going to come from how am I going to keep the lights on how am I going to stay warm in the winter living paycheck-to-paycheck even though I'm paid $25 an hour but I live in the second most expensive city in America I literally will not have any retirement funds

I love when customers get assertive with me and tell me I WILL do something that I can't because then I'm like challenge accepted! "so sorry, it's not possible" 😅 mind you, this is only when it really is impossible but the customer thinks they can bully their way into making the impossible happen.
