Probably a lot, I want to know what the guy was thinking when he either bought the car without test driving it and it threw it in reverse for the first time and it went forward, and found it to have 4 reverse gears, or if it did that on the test drive and it he bought it anyway.
Husband and I borrowed his mother’s car once years ago when we visited, and the smell of gasoline was so strong we thought there was a fuel leak. When we checked the car over, we discovered two full gas cans in the back. But instead of the locking gas caps, she had the pour spouts on them, covered with aluminum foil. She was worried about running out of gas, while living in a city with gas stations everywhere. She was an educated, intellectually curious woman, but lacked common sense. We gave her a stern talk about safety when we got home, and removed the gas cans at least until she could locate the locking caps for them. My mother worried about the same thing, but dealt with it by always topping up the tank at the halfway point, so I suggested that to her. She passed away several years later, but from a stroke, not suffocation by gas fumes at least.
Absolutely. I had a '70 Javelin with the 390, 4bbl, close ratio tranny with Borg T-10 shifter, and a 3.73:1 diff. After rebuilding, I had a 425hp 425ft/lb beast that once spun a cast iron manhole cover off and sent it a block down the alley. I thought I had broken a leaf spring when the rear end dropped 8". But I was too busy shifting when the mechanical throttle linkage stuck WFO until I could shut off the key. That was one fun car. P.S: The vehicle you referred to as a Javelin was actually an AMX, the shorty sporty model. I love them both dearly.
Here in PA there is talk about introducing a bill to eliminate annual inspections. This video and all the others you have are evidence enough as to why they should keep it.
I really don't want to be rude but what is going on with America? It's like an insane race to the bottom lately. (Not that I can talk, the UK seems desperate to go the same way)
@@smorris12 I agree, cobber. I cannot believe these idiots can drive away in a total death trap. At least in Oz we have registration checks. And you guys have MOT. Much better idea......
Show me the repair order that's says that, I dont believe the "customer" says the noises sound like that, Im pretty sure everyone in shop said it sounds like whatever and then one guy submits the video. Ain't no way these customers can describe a noise that accurately.
Whenever you feel you have done something idiotic just remember that there are people who do drive these death traps and do dodgy repairs and all is well in their misguided world's.
I am more worried about the enclosed vehicle one, at least the pickup truck has somewhere for the gasoline vapors to go. Trapped in a car the guy is lucky they never hit that magic ratio to air because there is bound to be something in a car cabin that could cause ignition.
I really enjoy your channel, and one thing that puts you leaps and bounds over your main competitor is that you take the time to explain what is going on and what we're looking at, whereas the other channel mostly just leaves you scratching your head. Thank you!
@@seththomas9105 I used to love getting the J.C. Whitney catalog back in the day. It was prominent reading/browsing material while sitting on the can! You could order all manner of things from them. Sometimes the stuff was great, other times junk.
@singlekc I totally agree. The repair shop owner should be prepared to tell a customer, "You have to have it towed off the premises" when it's unsafe to drive. And if diagnosis takes more than 15 minutes, there is still a minimum diagnostic charge.
@singlekc The law varies by state, and in most cases where there IS liability, the mechanic/garage is covered if they make the customer sign something stating they are aware of the deficiency and that the vehicle is not safe.
Did you stop to think that maybe they just couldn't afford the shop labor rate to fix it? I highly doubt they immediately took to the highway on a 1200 mile vacation trip... ffs... They probably just did that to limp it home where they will either park it for good or try to fix it themselves. People need to get out of this mentality of, "if there's a problem, call the cops!" No, you don't have the right to violently punish people for not having enough money to buy a decent car or to fix their old junker. Being poor isn't a crime.
@@livewire2759 I sympathize with the low funds thing. But that's no excuse to put others at risk. Massively unsafe. Ask a truck driver if he's have sympathy for these people getting charged for putting other people at risk. I never call the police on anyone, but if you cause harm to others because of lack of caring, bad life choices, etc you should be held liable
Like the dude that bought a barn find car on exterior pictures alone, rocked up there with a friend to drive it home. Got the keys and got in, no sounds at all when turning the ignition. Opened the hood just to see the tall grass growing inside the engine bay... Bought unseen, as it stands, signed all the paperwork and handed off enough money for a nearly pristine car. Which it looked like from the outside...
I bought a new Commodore in Australia in 1992 without ever having driven a Commodore. Had it for 23 years and 411000 km. I bought a used Camry in 2008 without driving it or even sitting in the car and starting it. I still have it. I knew the previous owner and knew she took great care of her stuff. Bought it at 75000 km and it now has 243000 km. 😀😀
I’ve watched dozens of these and that upside down diff. Is the best one yet. Actually it’s got to be fake. Did the original owner not notice after they did the work and thought they could sell it without a buyer noticing?
There should be a way for mechanics to notify the cops when cars like the one at 2:24 come in their shop. Tie rod ends like that literally kill people...
Show me a case where a broken tie rod (that they owner knew about and taped together) literally killed people... I guarantee, the customer just couldn't afford to fix it. They likely drove it a few blocks to get home and they tried to fix it themselves. That does not justify calling the f-ing cops on them. Get off your high horse and end your power trip. Being poor isn't immoral, it shouldn't be a crime.
Just to think, a youtube channel like this will never run out of content. That is a good thing for content, a bad thing for the fact there is so many people out there like this. So i must ask, what does your back log even look like for clips
It scares me that the people who drive these cars in such unroadworthy conditions are happy to do so. And happy to risk their life, their families and the lives of any other stranger on the road at the wrong time!! It may be hated over here but the MOT test is one of the best things about driving on this side of the pond!!
As usual your channel is the best. Again the last clip(AMX) is the best clip, It’s nice to know that some people take pride in their vehicles. Keep’m coming
a neighbour had all his calipers, rotors and wheels along with the whole underbody exhaust stolen yesterday. it was a brand new Alfa Romeo Giulia QV though... 😏 got a few nice cinder blocks in exchange. 😽
You would be suprised. For my last semi trailer new calipers for the disks on it, you were paying around $2200 a pop new. And ive heard of them being stolen off trailers and sitting trucks before. I could see them stealing them off a car if they are easy to get off while they go after a cat converter for example. Even if you cant resell them or dont have a shady shop willing to pass them off as new. They are a good chunk of metal and likely worth a few bucks as scrap.
It should be law everywhere that when a vehicle comes in and the safety of everyone else is put in jeopardy, then the shop should have to notify local police so they can make said vehicles get off the road until fixed correctly.
Here in European countries we have the one or two year car check. Here in the Netherlands every year and in Germany every two year. When it is not checked, you get your fine automatically at home.....so when the year is almost over, you get a letter from the Rijksdienst voor Wegverkeer (RDW) a month before the car needs its new check up. When two months after the expire date youd car is not checked at a RDW-recognised check up station, you get your fine. So you know now that almost all cars are very safe here. Good for everybody. The check up station are also checked by surprise (steekproef) and if they cheat, they can loose their points and recognition from the states RDW.......
I'm an auto technician and have had cars with severe safety concerns. There are procedures in place to prevent them from driving the vehicles. They have to sign a waiver saying they know their car is dangerous to be on the road and they aren't allowed to drive it off the lot. It has to be towed or pushed off the lot. after that, its not our concern.
@@gerhard6105 Every year in the UK, but not until the vehicle is 3 years old. Given the state of some of the nearly new cars we see on here, that's probably still too long.
I spent 3,500$ in repairs on my truck and Elantra the past 4 months, and I've been feeling kind of bad about it since I overpaid for one of the repairs. Watching these videos makes me happy for what I have lol.
May the car owner who went on his road trip returns safely despite the many issues the mechanic found on his car. On the other hand, I certainly wouldn't mind taking the sweet AMX at the end on a road trip myself.
I have to admit, half the time when you talk about what components of a vehicle have been affected, I have no idea what they are or what they do e.g. the belly pan. That's a good reason for me to not do my own servicing/welding/electrical system installations, unlike many of these owners, who also don't know.
Speaking of opposites... i saw a guy driving a 90's pickup bacwards. However, seeing him droving, it was legally driving forward. I gotta share my dashcam vid of that!
I have a Infiniti G35 and accidentally did the exact same thing with my dip stick! Drove a few miles and thought car was on fire before I realized what happened! They drink oil like crazy so you constantly have to check and this can happen 😂
I could recognize every part under that Astro van, except on my 93 everything is proper, in good working order and in comparison mine still looks brand new at 400 miles shy of 300,000 miles.
Super mario sound effect from the A/C is a partially clogged expansion valve, or a viscous fluid like too much compressor oil flowing through the lines... I got a 2002 Tahoe, and the rear A/C makes that noise, sounds like dolphins or sirens when the A/C is running.
Barking dog as a back up alarm is a small ray of humor in a sea of mentally challenged individuals destroying their vehicles who decided to 'fix" them.
The Super Mario jump sound is funny because you can even tell that it’s one of the Super Nintendo titles (Super Mario All*Stars+Super Mario World) and not one of the earlier ones. :D
I always call my local shop for things before they become problems. Sometimes the shop says no to worry, other times they fix it. I bring them pizza and donuts sometimes because I don't want to think I am annoying. I just really don't want to end up on this channel.
people like you are what are known as "best customers". they are satisfied, they come back again, pay right away, and sometimes bring treats. :) you're not annoying. not everyone can handle these little things, and better to call right up, or see the shop, rather than waiting until everythign is ruined. when I was still working car mechanic we had customers coming in regularly for little checkups: fluids, tyres, brakes, exhaust. if something came up they'd come in a few days later to have it fixed. usually done during wheel swicthing.
"As you describe me I can picture myself as I was, 22 years ago. The portrait is correct. You think I have grown some; upon my word there was room for it. You have described a callow fool, a self-sufficient ass, a mere human tumble-bug, stern in air, heaving at his bit of dung and imagining he is re-modeling the world and is entirely capable of doing it right. Ignorance, intolerance, egotism, self-assertion, opaque perception, dense and pitiful chuckle-headedness -- and an almost pathetic unconsciousness of it all. That is what I was at 19 - 20. It is of children like this that voters are made. And such is the primal source of our government! A man hardly knows whether to swear or cry over it." - Mark Twain
1:33 and 1:41 are the patients I have to see at the Urgent Care and ER every day. "So, you burned yourself with hot soup and then put mustard on the open blister? What? Why?" The irony is that as technology increases and we have more and more access to amazing information, the less and less people use it.
I went to a garage to get one thing fixed... they came back with 12 things that 'needed' to be fixed _immediately._ I drove away with no repairs conducted, fixed 8 of 12 items myself within 2 days (6 were very minor - filters and the like), had another 3 repaired at other garages not trying to rip me off. 1 item, the *ORIGINAL* issue, was actually misdiagnosed and took a year to finally pin down. Had it repaired in 3 hours. Original garage? A dealership, of course!
Love the channel. Quick and easy to digest. What sucks is there's a copy cat channel trying to do the same thing with your clips. Their voice sounds like ai.
I watch that channel but they show 100's of clips of bad brakes and coolant in oil. It gets old. At least here the content is truly shocking and amazing at the same time!
These repairs are the way all my friends think I work on stuff. But my Grandpa was the king of rigging stuff, Bailing wire, zip ties, and duct tape fixed it lol
Mechanic shops should have the right to not let the customer leave if the car is in a state that makes it just plain unsafe to drive. Seeing these and hearing "The customer declined all repairs and drove home" is making me feel things I shouldn't be feeling!
