@@scottmichael3745 Eventually you will lose all empathy. You just need to remember..... -You didn't build it. - You didn't buy it. -And you certainly didn't break it. And then you get the people that have an emotional attachment to their car. Why ? It's a mechanical object. It has no feelings for you.
@@Mike-qp8bv I think it's alright for people to value objects, especially things that they invest a significant amount of money into. People make memories in cars. My current car is the one that my recently passed away grandmother drove. It's beyond just a mechanical object for a lot of people.
It's one of the reasons I got out of that line of work, people don't maintain their vehicles in any way shape or form but then when you show them something like this or better yet pull their engine's dip stick right in front of them that only shows oil on the tip that smells like a charcoal grill and you tell them they need to pay more attention to maintenance on their vehicle without exception the first thing out of their mouth is "I check my oil regularly and change it often", it's like I told one guy, "That's like being a smoker and telling a doctor that's looking at an X-ray of your chest that you don't smoke". They don't maintain their vehicles, they don't even know where to put oil in their car, the only place they do know where something goes is the key in the ignition but when something breaks it's the mechanics fault. I got sick of it and found other ways of making a living.
@@dukecraig2402 How long where you a mechanic? I only ask, because it’s all I’ve done for the last 25 yrs,and I’m burnt out! I’d like to find a new profession
When bearings start to go bad, they usually make a grinding sound. This is when they need to be changed. If you continue to drive around ignoring the grinding, the bearings get worse. The mechanics are shaking these wheels because the bearings should have been changed many many miles before when there may not have been any movement in the bearings.
@@sergeantpeppers8858 grinding? You can hear them sing hahaha between 30 mph til 60mph when the sound gets a higher pitch there busted. I can believe people drive them until they make a grinding noise thats like stage 2 or 3 🤣 a friend of mine has drivin 200.000 miles on still oem bearings never replaced "YET" yeah its a toyota corolla from 1997.
The mechanic is just trying to make a point that the issue should have been evident even to a complete novice that there was a problem long before they brought it in.
A car coming into a shop for some problem only to find that there are major issues is not a big deal. It happens all the time. Many people don't realize the condition of their car until it's badly worn. However, if person refuses repairs, then it becomes an issue. Unless they are going to scrap the car rather than fix it. I enjoy watching these videos, but often wonder what is the back story. They say, "customer refuses repairs", implying that the person just wants to drive it the way it is. There can be many valid reasons a repair is refused. If I found that my cars frame is rusted out badly, I don't want it repaired. I want it scrapped. Some things you just don't fix. It can be cheaper to replace rather than repair.
I would call the cops on some of the cars shown here. I'm not just going to let you go knowing that you'll most probably crash in the near future killing someone else in the process.
@@sliwka621 That's a very good point. A mechanic can not hold a car if the bill is paid, but he can take photos and notify the police so they have the car impounded. Too many unsafe cars on the road.
I stepped outside and as looked up the neighbor was coming down the hill in a squeeky vic. Then the passenger side ball joint broke and she limped it about 30 yrds. She has been a recent widow and i tried to help and jackin it up was like a 2 point conversion on a 1 man team.
As someone who knows nearly nothing about cars, I watch most of these videos not even understanding the punchline, however I did laugh out loud when I saw the tire pressure gauge and the flat tire 😆
4:47 That SAAB was Laughing at the mechanic towards the end of the clip, because he didn't have SAAB Tool No. SA36512-37 or one of the other hundred + specialty tools you must have to work on a SAAB.
The first car you can tell that the owner beats the hell out of it. The second car, why even bother changing the oil when it leaks it all out anyway to the point it ate the rubber in the motor mounts lol. I cannot believe some of the cars and drivers on our roads...terrifying!
I'm BEGGING you, sir, to edit these a bit so that we don't have to watch someone moving a non-moving part 30 times. Wiggle it 3 of 4 times, and we get the picture.
When the exhaust manifold on my dad's car started leaking he said "there's no way the gaskets are bad"! He covered the leak with JB weld. It lasted several days then started smoking and burned off.
@@chrisgraham2904 yes. I knew the owner of a local alignment suspension steering shop and he would flat out refuse to let you drive a unsafe vehicle off his lot. He would make you sign off saying it’s not safe to be on the road and make you pay a tow truck to come get it off his lot. That kind of stuff really pisses people off but some are just completely dangerous to be on the road.
on the Saab, check the intake air temp and coolant temp sensors. I have run into this before, as long as the computer "believes" the value, it will try to use the data (some GM's will not fault it unless it's a open circuit), and the fuel mixture required to run at 70 degrees, and 10 degrees is vastly different (see also- maxed out correction for fueling/ misfires/ runs like crap). Looking at the data stream would give them a pretty good indication what is wrong with it.
Americans: 'GET YOUR OIL CHANGED EVERY 3 MONTHS OR YOUR CAR WILL DIE'.....American customer being asked if they want their wheels to stay attached....'I JUST HAD MY OIL CHANGED YOU'RE RIPPING ME OFF'
If a customer says "this is all I need." If you show them everything else wrong with it, and they still just want what they brought fixed only, set it on the ground and roll it out of the shop. If they won't drive it away, get it towed off your lot at their expense.
Husband changes the air filter every 10,000 miles? Hmm. Time for a new Husband. Check air filter every time oil is changed and change if needed. My oil is changed every 3000 miles and air filter every 6000 miles because I want my engine to last awhile.
old natural oil need change ewery 3000 mail and new mineral oils need change normal max 6000 mail. this is basic tested at engineers school, how long can use oils.
@@wayneessar7489 I live in London, if we see two days of snow a year it's unusual. Would you spring for a set of winter tyres with that sort of snow fall and it rarely going below zero?
@@andrewlaw Our insurance companies have decided this for us. I have four heavy duty Michelin LTX winter tires on steel rims with the tire pressure monitoring sensors, and pay to have them stored. Back to the insurance, here we get very little snow, depending on the year but if I have a accident and the company finds the temp was below 7°c then they will say my vehicle was not equipped for the road conditions and they will reduce or deny my claim. So in their eyes, you can run bald tires, if you wish, but don't expect help if you injure someone or get sued.
Some of these are things that people just realize are wrong or finally hear over the music they play. Some are just stupid and the rest are plain crazy dangerous.
I changed the air filter at half life of the car, lasted 420,000 km. This next one , I intend to make the air filter last the life of the engine. I do remove , blow and inspect it every couple of years.
Re Explorer, That's what conecntrating on emission stickers at the expense of a proper full annual inspection gets you , some states in the US just don't care how many people get killed by dangerously (un)maintained vehicles
As a guy from germany, having a technical inspection of the vehicle every 2y and probably non of those cars would be allowed to drive here: Are they allowed to drive in the US? Take the scene with the oxigen sensor, the mechanic touches the thing next to the wheels and it's loose. Were the customers allowed to drive to the mechanic???
Mechanics should have SOME degree of authority to prevent a customer from operating a motor vehicle when there is clear evidence that the customer is grossly negligent with regard to that vehicle, resulting in a safety hazard to others. Such as driving a rust-out case or a vehicle that is so filthy inside it constitutes a biohazard.
Well most people that come in for oil change have no idea what's going on below the car. That's why the tech should always do a thorough inspection. Plus can always charge for all those problems
Most of the cars featured on videos like this one should get a referral to the nearest scrap yard. Yes, referral, not directions. Take your heap of scrap and get it over with.
I know this mainly attracts mechanically minded folks, I do wonder how many people view these segments and think to themselves "I don't see any problem"
In the UK all cars over 3 years old have to have a annual roadworthiness test [MOT] which includes , structural/bodywork , steering, suspension , brakes , lights , washer /wipers , emissions etc . Still some really unsafe vehicles around but it catches most of them .
I’m still trying to figure out how that car is even running at all. $17k LMFAO, I wouldn’t pay 17 cents. Best thing for that is a squirt of fuel and a match
