2:48 - Even after those wheels get balanced, it's still going to ride rough. A lot of people seem to not realize that tires are an important part of ride comfort. Less tire means less shock absorption, and consequently more risk to damaging the wheels.
When doing my first brake job, I remember being so worried about getting it right, overanalyzing all the tutorial videos to make sure I didn't screw up. Guess not everybody's like me.
ya just got to remember ya basics and balincing the bloody wheels if thoes are changed too *proably a good idea to balince em regardless on the free for the sakes of covering ya butt.
Right, just take your time about it. I didnt have the advantage of videos when I first started. Dial up internet and all. For anyone looking to try it out you can do things to make it go better. With brakes you can always go look at the other side if you are unsure. I also recommend taking before pictures prior to doing anything or once you have a cover off so you can refer back later if in question. Dont leave it all to memory, especially early on. After a brake job just assume they wont work right and test drive it carefully giving yourself plenty of space.
Critical Thinking is a very underpicked class skill. It can be applied to almost anything, although it can also handicap you in a few small situations.
@@andrewt.5567 To add to this: A handwritten or even typed logging of what you are doing helps too if you are a bit wary of recording the whole process. It is fantastic when you know you will be interrupted multiple times for unknown amounts of time. Also if you happen to be the first one, check over your finished product with a professional and dont be afraid to reach out and help others with your findings.
There is a recurring theme that rears its head in all these great clips that are sent in on this channel , and that is since 225 BC the metal chain has been put to good use , and Merry Christmas ..
@@s0nnyburnett Well, a chain can beat duct tape on price only if you look at the long view, where you'd have to go through numerous rolls of duct tape periodically to keep your rotted car frame from heading to different driveways at once.
@@chrismaverick9828 Yes Duct tape is the greatest innovation known to man it doesnt have the tensile strength of good quality chain . Chain is like an old pair of slippers , comfortable and dependable or so i thought . In comes FiberFix 10x , is marketed as 100x stronger then Duct tape even Gorilla tape , havent used it but you can get a 2 inch roll on Amazon ..
@@MonkeyJedi99 We are all in agreement that Duct tape has a place but just for fun or danger , if you had to cross a bridge over angry alligators one suspended with Duct tape and the other suspended with chain which one are you crossing . lol
Also a german viewer here. Almost all things you show here are nearly Impossible in Germany because of the TÜV. Have a great holiday and a nice new year.
@@JustRolledIn I guess there are so many Germans here because (speaking for myself) I am in shock about the rolling wrecks on the streets and their mindboggling owners (I guess mostly from USA). So watching your videos is kind of watching a freak show 😉 in Germany any car in that bad material condition would be way beyond illegal to drive in the public. We have rather strict regulations about the material condition of the vehicles. and I am fine with that, considering the speeds I am allowed to drive.
Awesome dude 👌 Haha the greased squeaky brake one just makes you wonder... Just like the trailer brakes the other week 🤔 that guy really needs to leave things be 🤣🤣 have a great Xmas bud 👍
0:45 here in the uk it'd be "well, we'll notify the DVLA your car is unsafe and that you're driving it. Expect a nice big fine and points on your license"
These videos make me realize just how much trust we put into strangers in our everyday lives. I try hard to make sure my cars maintained. But shit. Atleast I try. Some people need to take a class before owning a vehicle
okay but the snowman that inflates when you start up the car is a joke I can laugh about, maybe not if I pressed start as a technician right in that moment, but after for sure XD
Not really a choice is it? If there's no ability to legally stop the customer driving away in an unsafe car (what an incredibly broken country...) then I guess at least getting it towed is the next best thing to minimise casualties.
@@karlhendrikse I mean absolutely no offense by this, but it sounds like you are lucky to have dealt with at least a normal set of shops before. A crappy one will not only let you drive off, but charge you a made up fee and immediately destroy your invoice so when you do have an accident or report the fraud they never heard of you. I share your moral compass, so I am just impressed to hear about a shop actually having moral fibre rather than friends and relatives getting completely screwed. (assuming it was not their own stupidity) again, no offense intended, I know the internet makes it hard to tell sometimes.
When I was a kid I stayed at my buddys house and we were going with his Father and Stepmother and we got in to their pickup to a party they were going to. Got back to the house and we could hear a mow noise from the front . It was a cat that had got next to the air filter box. I was just glad the cat was okay.
0:21 should they have gotten a tow? Probably. But you’ve also gotta consider that they used gold duct tape, so you’d understand why they’d think everything was fine
Man, that shop who paid for the Tow truck because a customer refused getting brakes is a much better person than I am. I would have called the cops and told them I have a car leaving with no brakes. Thats just ridiculous. Unless, there's more, such as customer took it another place for the brakes, but still...
My wife and I just saw those inflatable Christmas passengers are the local box store and my first thought was "How many people are gonna use them to ride in the HOV lanes in Atlanta?"
About 45 years ago, I turned up at my friends place to find him working on his CB250, one of those with front drum brakes. He was pumping oil into the little drain hole at the bottom. I screamed at him to stop. It was squeaking he said. Eventually, I convinced him to strip the brake and clean it. The shoes were contaminated, but I couldn't convince him he needed new shoes. We set off on the ride, and at the first roundabout he just went over the top. We then proceeded (carefully) to the dealer for new brake shoes and a can of degreaser, and new underwear for him.
@@rolandkee335 - if I recall correctly, his name was only Otto. His title was auto pilot. So he was Otto the auto pilot. And I just recently learned he died alone and forgotten in the director's garage many years after his starring role. He disintegrated from old age.
I think there is a little exaggeration going on. If those brakes were all fully locked up for 20 miles it would have worn all 4 wheels down to the hubs.
So I’m a dedicated viewer of this channel and about a week ago I was told a friend of the family recently had their jeep catch fire that they tow behind their large motorhome. Someone flagged them down letting them know it was on fire. I guess they could not see it easily around the motorhome was the story I heard. I couldn’t help but wonder if this was their jeep. I believe they were in Florida when this happened. I also had a lot of questions when told this.
@@tinknal6449 If they were locked up there wouldn't be any signs of heat or wear on the rotors. Break away auto brake systems don't apply enough force to lock the breaks up, just to stop the vehicle fairly quickly.
The shop that paid for the tow truck charged the customer.... Right? If not, I need to know what shop that is, they're customer service is boss level 😂
The shop didn't want any liability if the customer lost control and killed someone after driving away from the shop. Paying for the tow was insurance against a potential million-dollar judgment.
At least they tried to do something to get it there. At the height of that recall, I had customers coming in with the rear of their vans swaying from where the axle broke. Had one even show up literally dragging the axle down the road. Of course, none of them actually came in because of the recall notice they received. They all showed up either wanting a safety inspection or maintenance....or they were complaining about a noise, ride quality or handling issue.
I literally sat at my desk for 5 minutes with my head in my hands trying to comprehend the levels of idiocy required to apply grease to brakes. It's been 20 minutes and I'm finally able to formulate sentences again. I feel dumber for having witnessed said acts of idiocy.
yes- that sorta temporarily drained me for all hope of humanity when I saw the grease pack. Hello people- friction is the goal here--- it's the centerpiece reason why we stop.
Used to work at a Ford dealer as a Service writer. Checking in a truck with black leather interior and tinted windows. Didn't notice the black lab till I felt something lick my ear from behind!
@@DallasG83 , Agreed. As seen from here in the EU, we watch channels like this like a foreign horror movie, as we won't be seeing such monsters on our streets. MERRY CHRISTMAS,🍻
Marry Christmas! For 35 years I worked on garbage trucks. I never had to work on one where the trash is inside the cab! Just think what their house looks like! 😵💫
Working on garbage trucks for 35 years......... you're an American HERO. America can get by without all the crap we say we can't do without. BUT, public sanitation, garbage trucks, and landfills are indispensable.
Just when I think vehicles can't get any worse...you keep surprising me with these wonderful masterpieces. Wonder if the driver of that Elantra (the one the shop towed away)...is still driving the car unfixed.
@@leonb2637 funny enough there is always 2 sides of the coin. Most people complain that they dont have enough money but on the other hand they waste the money they have on stuff that they dont actually need. Also if you dont have the money to get something fixed on your car consider fixing it yourself. The internet knows everything and there are a fuckton of tutorials on how to fix stuff.
Third story, I'd be really tempted to say flat out to that customer: "Why do you feel the need to endanger yourself and others on the road? Does that make you feel good about yourself?"
@@JustRolledIn I’ve been looking at the S60/XC60 mid 2010s, 2.0 I4 or the 2.5 I5. I wanna get better gas mileage than my V70. I have a 2016 Mazda 3 atm. I miss my Volvo deeply.
I'm a Windstar owner and it never surprises me what people do to their cars.. going thru your whole life with that kind of thinking has got to hurt....lol✌️
Have you had your rear axle recall done or should we be expecting yours to appear in a future video? (I'm actually a Ford Master Tech and Windstar owners scare me.....)
@Aaron Thomas replaced years ago. Here's one for you. I own a 2020 Escape with 13k . Had the oil changed last week and the tech at my shop noticed both rear shocks leaking..have you run into this often?
Hello fellow car lovers! I'm so happy today, after 7 years I've paid off my 2014 HEMI Challenger R/T. It had an electronic anti-corrosion system installed when new and there is not a speck of rust. Only 104,000 kms on my baby. (just over 60,000 miles) It's bright red with two black stripes, 5.7L and 5-speed. I hope to drive her until I'm on the local news as the final internal combustion holdout. Merry Christmas fellow car lovers!
@@choggi Yes, we use road salt. There is a touchless car wash a few blocks away that has undercarriage blast that I've been using since I bought the car.
Kittehs are nuisances. You don't see dogs climbing in to the engine compartment and riding around; no, they get in the driver's seat and say "Get in loser; we're going for dog treats!"
I always wondered what it took before some of these cars held together with rust, hose clamps, and zip ties before they went to the junk yard. Now I know - a bad transmission. I guess there is only so much snake oil and ignoring the problem before you give up
