Yeah I worked in the Zone 5 years. Saw many times our test results differed from competitors. Saw the same battery & charging system tested weird af in the car but upon charging normaled out. Also, the high # of customers who apparently assumed mere metal touching of batt cables was sufficient. I’d pop their cable off with my bare hand nearly 1/2 the time. They’d freak. I'm going to give you an example of why customers hate some mechanics - not all. My son was driving in Chicago. Car dies. He had it towed to his in-law's favorite shop. The mechanic said the timing belt broke, had bent all the valves, there was zero compression, and it would be $4,000 to replace the engine. I had my son tow it 150 miles to my house with a Hertz truck and dolly. I popped the belt inspection plug. It was still intact! I put a code reader on it. Reader said bad crank timing sensor. Cost me $79. Chicago mechanic was complete liar.

your spot on a happy customer is good advertising for you and a dishonest mechanic in a small town can destroy themselves. Best transmission shop in the are that not only lost my business but all my customers business after I told them about 3 encounters i had with them. 3 reco transmissions I had fitted to the same car in 4 months and the bullshit I was told as to why these were changing hard slipping and grinding noise that one I was told give it 3 weeks until the gears mesh in properly that was taken out 2 days later after I told his dad what the son told me dad took it for a drive and put another reco trans in the following day being the 3rd in 4 months its been in 7 years now and still dosnt drop into 2nd with out slipping as it has done from the time it was installed. The only reason I went back to this shop I was told this shop was the go to place for trans repairs & rebuilds. after my problems I found out I wasn't the only one to have bad work carried out there 3 times I had work done there and 3 times they tried to pull the wool over my eyes. The first time ringing transmission repairers to price a service on my mums car i was given their price for a standard service asking what's included in this price I was told all the new parts oil, gaskets & filter all internals checked and adjusted and a computer scan to make sure no codes were popping up. Arriving at this place I was instructed by one of their technician to drive the car in and park it between the hoist posts leave in neutral and park brake off I get out of the car and stood there talking to this technician while the car was lifted into the air pan bolts undone pan drained dropped off new filter and gasket fitted pan bolted back on car dropped down and filled with oil started and checked then I was told she's right to go drive it back round to the front of the building go see girls in the office and pay the account I walk into the office give them the name and rego and make of the car like i did the day before she prints out this huge invoice that i started reading all these things that had been done 14 things in fact when I pointed out that the only things that had been done was new filter oil and gasket no internal checks were done road test before or after service no computer scans and oil checked after test drive no pressure test carried out and others that just sounded good this lady who i found out later was the technician mother and the father ran the business she told me I was wrong as all their standard services include all this I explained what your trying to charge me I could have done at home for under $55 it has taken you 15 min $30 dollars in parts and now you want $169 from me If I had of been told this was only for oil change and filter kit I'd have done it my self I was told it takes an hour to do this job I said it took 15 min to do my mums car as i drove it onto the hoist then back to the office let me go and find what has happened she went out back I hear yelling swearing and what sounded like tools being tossed around a guy came running out of a small office and out into the workshop the lady returns and told me she was sorry they didn't have time to do all the testing as they were over booked and they forgot to ring me so I could bring the car back at the end of the week & have it finished or just pay $60 and they would give me a discount next time I handed over $ 50 dollars and said your lucky to get that this is the 3rd time now you have been dishonest with me I bring you in a fully dismantled T700 all cleaned and in zip lock bags with new clutch packs after being quoting $250 to reassemble it after I was told it was ready Im handed a bill for $680 on the account with dismantling and cleaning costs so along with new service kit this was taken over to them in 2 butcher bins and were slid under a work bench where I took a pic of them I asked the son to explain how I was quoted $250 for an hour and a bit in labour now Its $680 I asked where my butcher bins were we have nothing like that here I said I'll show you where I was told to leave them we walked out back and there was my bins with all the MT zip lock bags in it along with MT boxes with for my clutch packs and service kit now he remembers he said one of the other guys done it needless to say this business is struggling now since it was taken over by the son. sorry for the drawn ou4 reply it still makes me mad when people try to rip off their bread and butter

I worked in the parts side of the automotive business for many years (including managing a battery shop). I have sold, tested and replaced more automotive and truck batteries than you could possibly imagine (along with golf cart batteries, cell phone batteries, watch batteries, laptop batteries... you name it!). The absolute worst part of this business is having to deal with customers who refuse to listen to or accept whatever you tell them. One of the facts of doing business nowadays is that a few bad apples have made most customers into consumer advocates who are sure that everyone is out to get them... and they are NOT going to be taken advantage of, and cannot be made to understand that there are mostly good people in this business, and all they want to do is help the customer. No, I don't miss doing this work at all. Yes, I am really enjoying my retirement!

People get ridiculous with batteries. I used to work at a parts store up here in Canada. Guy came in once asking for a free replacement on a battery he had bought a few weeks before because it was defective. I told him we don't do free replacements as per the warranty brochure we had him sign, but let's test it. When I went to pick it up I realized the entire thing had frozen solid. Turns out the guy had left it on his garage floor for two weeks in temps that hit as low as -35C. I told him we couldn't do a warranty on it because that voids the warranty. I also mentioned again that it says so on the brochure he read and signed. He said he didn't read or sign any brochure, which was a lie. We had a copy. He then insisted on a free replacement anyway. I told him again that we don't do free replacements as per the warranty, but he still insisted. I tried to explain this for a few minutes because there was nothing else to do. I guess he'd had enough after a while, because eventually he suggested that he get his hunting rifle out of his truck to resolve the issue. Funny enough, it did resolve the issue, just not for him. He was removed from the store in cuffs without his free battery shortly after.

if the battery froze, doesn't that mean he's just been adding a lot of top-up water to it and it's about to die soon anyway? When you guys in Great white north have to store a battery removed like that, do you keep on a charger to try to keep it warm or is there some other trick?

Batteries are one thing that people try to scam retailers out of quite frequently because a lot of customers are cheapskate dirt bags. I had several people try to tell me they just bought an Optima a year ago and it was bad. When I checked the engraved date code, they were usually several years old. Many people even had the gall to come in and steal new date code stickers off batteries and stick them on their old ones thinking that they wouldn't be caught. The look on their faces when I caught them in their lie was priceless. I'm sure some people have gotten away with it, but they never tricked me.

They had the type & code #s scratched off b/c of it. The factory would test-fire those engines & suck out the oil after but some was left but not enough to run on. You see where this's going? Those engines were displayed on shelves usually on their sides. When the customers put those motors on they could see oil so they thought they were good to go & highly pissed when the motor locked up. The store stood behind 'em to keep the customers.

God, I hate these kind of customers. "I was just here a few months ago for this problem." No, you were here 3 years ago and not for this problem. "Well, don't you warranty your work?!?" Yep, 12 months, 12kmi on parts that I sell and 90days on labor. "Well this is ridiculous! I've been coming here for years, why am I being treated this way?!" (Me, checking the two P.O.S. systems... Finding that this "loyal example of consumerism" had only been to the shop ONCE, did no work and even discounted the diagnostics on A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CAR.) No sir, you've been here once, and not even with this vehicle. "This is completely unacceptable! I want to speak to the manager! NOW!" As you wish. (Me, doing a 360 in place) Hi, I'm the manager, how can I help you? "Uhhhh, what?" Yeah bro, I'm the manager, tech, trash/sweeper guy, phone answerer, estimate maker, what to you need? "You can't be the manager!" I can't? Why for? "BECAUSE YOU AREN'T HELPING ME!" (I step outside and check the shop signage, then come back in and check the repair order for the customer name) Ok, for a minute there, I thought I was at the wrong shop. Sir, I am sorry you are having issues with your fine automobile, had it been due to anything I had done, I would be happy to help you. As it is, again, you have been here once 3 years ago with a different vehicle, and even then, I did not perform any service beyond a diagnosis, after which you did no actual work. "I cannot believe you just said that to me! GIVE ME MY GODDAMN KEYS SO I CAN GO TO A REAL SHOP, ASSHOLE!" As you wish, sir. If you could refrain from using that manner of language, I'll be happy to pull your car around. "WHATEVER, just get my fucking car out of your fucking shop! NOW!" (I bring car around, hand him his keys) Thanks for stopping by, have a great day. By the way, you are no longer allowed on the property, Thanks again. (He's screaming about some random BS about suing as I walk away from him) Sure thing bud, have at it. I hate my life so much it hurts.... sometimes.

I even went so far as to buy an ECU battery reset tool for my BMW when I replaced its battery (computer must be told that a new battery is installed in order for it to send the correct charging voltage). Even spending $100 for that tool, it was still cheaper than having the dealership replace the battery. And, yes, I used a genuine BMW-branded battery in the car. I have had so many shops tell me that a problem was caused by something, just to part shotgun the damn thing and yield no results. I love your videos dude. It's REALLY simple to explain to the customer... "Sir, we will gladly replace the battery for you at no charge provided you present your receipt indicating that you purchased this battery from us within the warranty period. Otherwise, we can only go off of our records; and they indicate that the last time you had us replace your battery was in 2017 (4 years ago and well outside of the warranty period)." I would even go so far as to agree with them that it is possible that we sold them the battery that is currently in the vehicle. But, given the circumstances, they would have to produce their original repair receipt.

I thought that was rather obvious aye and was what I was thinking. Very first thing I'd have done is a jump pack. That'll test ya starter. Next is quick charge on the battery to see if it'll stick and what it'll hold. IF the battery held up then it's 99% likely the alternator is fragged. In this case though step 2 would have caught the issue REALLY quickly. I'd have also at first suggestion of it being the battery checked the flammin' date code.

Male bees are rare. There is only about 1 to every 250 females. The drones have no stinger. All they do is sit around eating. When the weather is good they fly off looking for a Virgin queen to mate with. If they are lucky enough to catch one the queen grabs him and tears off his mating organs in mid flight. He plummets to Earth and dies. The other drones are killed off when the flowers are not in bloom and they are not needed any more.

My good buddy is a mechanic and been serving my car for years. I'd hang around while he works on it. Then I bought a new KIA and decided to service it at the dealer to keep the warranty. When it was time to replace the brakes (less responsive) KIA 'took care of that'. Even stated on the receipt and billed me for it. Driving back and in traffic, I could feel the brake engaging/locking point is still low and squeaking. I figured it could be dirty with brake dust and brake oil is low (a few things I picked up while hanging out at my friend). I called him and soon enough i rolled in with the car, directly onto the lift platform. To my surprise when he took the wheels off and brakes (in front of me) if was still the old used ones, almost only metal plate! ...And of course KIA did not want to acknowledge it. Anyway, never went to service my car at the dealer again and a year later I bought a Honda. Pretty sure I won't be buying any car and also never recommends any of my friends to buy from the KIA dealer.
