Someone once said they could'nt design a bear-proof food storage because: "There is a signifigant overlap between the smartest bear and the dumbest human." I think about that a lot.

That's hilarious. I've met two examples in real life. One is an ex girlfriend and the other is my mother. People have thought I was being just nasty about my mother, then some people met her and actually said sorry for not grasping the severity of the problem. Bought her a phone one day and tried telling her to - 1. Type in the number. 2. Press the green button to call. After nearly 90minutes trying to get this through to her I walked out. 2 days later I get an abusive call from Mr brother telling me the phone is faulty and that I'm a prick for playing that trick on my mother. So I asked him what happens if you push a button. He said nothing. So I told him that both he and my mother are to damned stupid to put a phone on charge. Dunning Krueger Effect explains that the dumbest uneducated people, are always those claiming to be the smartest.

In our jurisdiction each utility is responsible for coming out to mark their own lines (we have one central number to call that informs them) but the phone and cable companies won't even come out anymore. They've figured out it's cheaper to fix the lines that get broken then to mark for everyone doing work. Customer satisfaction is clearly high on their priority list.
@tw3145wallenstein
@tw3145wallenstein Год назад
same idea here, 811 just notifies any utility listed on the property that an excavation is planned and they have 48 hours to mark their lines. unless it and emergency then they have between 2 and 6 hours to mark it depending on what time it comes in.

@marvelljones72

In a lot of cases, that's because the "official" lines are wrong 60-70 percent of the time (at least). In my area they've moved to new computer systems often enough that the records are wrong on houses that have been in the same place 50+ years, and sometimes on any build that wasn't done in the last 10 years. Probably also why none of the utility companies want to remove the poles in older neighborhoods and bury the lines underground, even though we experience lengthy outages multiple times a year due to storms.
@daddybdpearson1
@daddybdpearson1 Год назад
That's almost like buying a new printer when you need ink. Marking the places not to dig, shouldn't cost more than repairing the lines. With marking the lines you also get the benefit of not pissing off the other customers.

@Roger Ramjet I guess my experience has been the opposite of yours. I do all of those things despite severe physical limitations (yes, including changing tires on my truck). It was my father in law that couldn't do any of what you describe, & had his wife not done all of them, he'd have been homeless. I'm thankful she taught her sons to not be useless oxygen suckers, and my parents taught me to not be a useless eater. My stepsons and former boyfriends are more along what you describe women to be (stepsons were grown & out o/the house b/4 I married). It's foolish to encourage stereotypes, though I understand why most people do it. Kinda like the stereotype of women not being able to drive or maintain vehicles...in 20 years, my husband has destroyed 4 vehicles (due to failure in maintaining & choosing to ignore idiot lights), to my 1 (was T-boned by a dump truck). @jessicablack300
@jessicablack300 Год назад
💯 Everyone should be able to carry "defense tools" regardless of where you are in my opinion. There is nothing wrong w/ exercising your 2A right. It does of course, require the understanding & acceptance of the fact that if you do exercise your 2A right that you are & will be held responsible & accountable for any result that occurs. So even if you do lawfully exercise your right, you must understand that accidents still occur. I.E. if you fire at a person in self defense & one of the bullets hit an innocent, you must understand you have to take whatever consequences that may come from that. So I understand if some people choose not to exercise their 2A right. That level of responsibility is extremely heavy with real life consequences. It's ok if some are not ok with taking that risk. But it is not ok to strip others their own rights to lawful self defense. Your unwillingness to accept the risk does Not mean you have the right to decide if others are willing to. At the end of the day, quite literally "you are your first line of defense" & " when seconds count, cops are only minutes away". ✌️ Positive be vibe to all.

Too ugly for the tube but maybe I can share something here. The names have been changed to protect the identities and all that. This one is more recent and I remember pretty much every detail. Let me start by saying my first comment was a lie, I actually quit moving for a bit a delivered furniture. It is the same shit with more driving and less running up and down steps with boxes, more customers, less time with customers. It was earliesh 2020. I was working for Value City as a contractor. Covid had hit, everything was on back order. I'm talking waaayyyy on back order. These people had bought the shit with their 2018 tax returns and shit. (I can say that, I grew up in poverty too, I don't buy furniture, I take home shit rich people were going to throw away. That is #2 perk to being a mover, after cash tips.) It is almost like VC knew the pandemic was coming a year early and were like "fuck these people, let's send a third party to deliver half their kid's bunk bed with no mattress" Seriously, half the homes we walked into in 2019 were not happy. We made a little girl cry at her grandparents house.... I quit soon after this story ends. I used to go for the money at all costs. I am in a place now where I only lose sleep, over myself, dropping out of college. At work, I help people. This story is not about Value City. However, apparently I needed to vent before proceeding, I could shit on them more but I have probably already lost most people. 5:00 am at VC... All thirty (fifteen two man delivery crews) of us are masked and lined up. There was a new VC rep who was actually super cool having a meeting with all of us. I really liked this lady and didn't understand how she ended up with them and was not surprised when she left a few months later. As "Rachel" was asking which crews wanted to stay active and going over what she knew from corporate (she was a real one, no facade) and we all spoke up about seeing videos from China, Italy, etc.. where the shit had hit the fan.. This was the second time in my life where I felt like I was in a movie. By chance?... Berlin's hit song "Take My Breathe Away" was cued up perfectly. This playlist had to have over 1,500 songs in it, I had heard it loop maybe twice since I had worked there. I don't think life is a joke but I am the person that lol's at stuff like this. Just as she was going over precautions, talking about the tiny amount of information we all had in like March 2020, offering extra money to risk continuing deliveries, this song was perfectly cued up.. All zero of you still reading, thank you! Let us fast-forward a couple of weeks... My buddy and I were killing it, delivering box springs with no mattresses, mattresses with no bed, couches with no feet, whatever they could push out the warehouse, getting cussed out daily by anxious people six feet away. Apologizing, telling them to "call the store you bought it from" (as instructed, even though the stores were closed..) It was scary, not scarier than not being able to pay rent. Not to mention, there was zero traffic anywhere... We are working out of a large Midwest city. The thing about Midwest cities is that fifteen miles away could very possibly be people that haven't left their "city"... That said, we are like one hundred miles from the capital where we reside. From here on is where Rachel told us her boss told her we should have called the police. Any guesses what happens?... It involves a shallow gene pool.. TO BE CONTINUED...

When you described the man wearing shorts and hawaian shirt and dad bod belly I thought you were describing my brother.

I had a woman last week who was so confused about me letting her know her credit card would expire in a month that she actually asked me if her new credit card would be delivered to us(a car wash). I asked why she thought her credit card would be delivered to us and not to her at her house and she said “🤷🏻‍♂️idk”. I had to stop trying to explain and just tell her what to think and that she was done here and could go on her way bc she wasn’t comprehending anything I said and she also wasn’t leaving. I’ve been thinking about every day and it still boggles my mind

I am flabbergasted at this story. My Dude you boys handled this like the Champion Humor that it was. I can honestly say as a computer repairman, I have had several of the same humorous moments. I remember one day I had some appliance repair to do for a fella, approximately an hour away. My AC was out in my car, so I drove there in a muscle shirt, Khakis, and Flip flops. Before I could put on my shoes, and polo shirt, this guy comes out with his baby in his arms brandishing a shotgun. He insists that although I have a work order, and his parts in my car, there is no way I am a legit repair facility because I arrived in Pajamas and a car. Not a Cargo van or Sprinter Van. LOL. Well for a man that just purchased top-of-the-line Samsung equipment for all of his home needs, This one action costs him his warranty coverage on all the products in his home, because he threatened harm and denied service. The icing on the cake is when I had to call the police and file a police report so I could get paid. Following this Report, CPS got involved and removed his child temporarily from the home. Sad for the kid, but I would like to think there was a lesson learned in all this.

@normturner4849
@normturner4849 Год назад
@Deadly Drk Beauty It can (& has been) argued that no one NEEDS access to a firearm. They just want it. In Australia, like England, there are virtually NO shootings, and a death is so rare that it makes national news if it does happen. We're talking an average of 1 single death a year, maybe. We don't have them, only crims have them but even they don't use them bc there's no need. A threat with a knife or a good beating is enough to get their point across or accomplish their robbery or whatever. We hear about American shootings and shake our heads in sympathy bc we see how they (you?) are trapped by the NRA and ur own fear (which is legitimate, I grant you). Stay safe & be well. 🤜🏼🤛🏽 Edit: yes. There absolutely should be an IQ test and/or a psychological test that is ongoing every year, just like drivers license.

@@normturner4849 🙄 you still got shootings in Britainistan and Australianna. London surpassed NYC a few years ago for violent crime. You also have more knife violence, which is more deadly than a gunshot. Evil people will do evil things. If they can't do it one way, they will find another.

I work for a company that stakes utilities for Miss Dig. Its not really that hard so I'm not sure how a lot of these locators miss the lines. But it mostly comes down to complacency. They assume they know how the line is going to run so they just paint it and flag it. They don't bother to hook up and verify the path that the utility takes
@AllynHin

I called 811 come to my property to locate the power line. The guy they sent couldn't find it. I walked around the yard with him while he used his gadget to locate the power line. I still don't know where it is and have been digging on a hope and a prayer.
@andytaylor1588
@andytaylor1588 Год назад
The utility provider has to register the property with the locator service, or they won't know where the lines are. Yes, I and others have used devices to find lines, but some will be missed, possibly causing injury or death to the diggers.
