Really good. I have used this feature for some years and currently open at ICloud in list view with other folders and files listed under "Favorites" so that 90% of what I need is immediately available. But you have taken it to a new, far superior, level. The Smart Folders idea is great Many thanks. Oh yes, I also use the colour-coded tags in the Finder sidebar for quick access to other frequently used files and folders.

I add project folders I'm working on in the sidebar. They can be reordered and removed once finished with.

I’m not sure if this applies still beyond Big Sur, but the single way to store a template for what happens when the user invokes the fundamental and ultra-useful “New Window” command requires one extra step that is only rarely mentioned. Once a user has configured the content, view, and even dimensions of a window meeting their particular needs for a template, the window must be closed before any other action is taken, followed by the CMD+N command. Subsequently, until this is performed again, the “New Window” command will always bring up that template, as the files in it permit.

First, make sure you are in Icon view. Then, choose View, Show Status Bar.

I saw somewhere how to keep apps on all desktops or particular ones. this was great, I immediately changed my calculator. I was looking for that video because I wanted to see if it was possible with show inspector? When going back to the dock clicking on options, I see that is part of finder, however I don't want to do it with finder windows, just the get info. Is that possible. I just wanted to say thanks and what an easy way to do it with calculator, in apple communities they only suggest 3rd party apps. I don't want third party apps so great teaching again Gary, easy instruction without a 3rd party app.

@@macmost when you open calculator and click on dock and select options, you can choose to assign to all desktops, a certain desktop or none. Can you do this with get info window, it seems get info or show inspector is part of finder. I want my finder set on none , I put my calculator on all desktops. I was wondering is there a way to set the get info or show inspector window to all desktops without changing finder from none to all?

@@bikeman5 No, because the Info window isn't an app, it is part of the Finder as you noted.

I turned on my mac mini M2 today and certanly the electricity gone and will it affecs my mac mini. I was not doing anything. But I just turned on this is 1st time happened

Hello Gary, I have a question. I hope you don't mind answering and providing help if you can. One thing that drives me crazy about the Finder is that it seems unable to keep files in folders and subfolders organized by default. Every time I create folders or subfolders and place files inside them, I have to go to their settings and sort the files by name (my preferred method)-each folder at a time. From that point on, any subsequent files will be organized until I create another folder. I have not been able to find a way to have Finder automatically sort and organize files in newly created folders by default. Is there a setting somewhere that I have not been able to find to do that? Maybe a command line in Terminal? Thank you.

If it isn't sorting them by name, how is it sorting them? Settings are saved on a per-folder basis, but the default is usually by name.

@@macmost The default is "None." It doesn't sort, unless you go to settings for that folder and select from the list how you want files to be sorted. And this is where it bothers me because I always want files to be sorted by name.

@@mund2872 It can't be None, it has to be something. Or, wait, are you using Icon View? Usually when people talk sorting in the Finder it is List View they are using.

@@macmost I inadvertently left that part out! Yes, I'am using Icon view. In this mode, the sorting default is None. And you are right, in list view, the default is Name. I guess I have to get used to list view. Thanks.
