This lock screen customising feels bit more Android way to do things than Apple way. Do you have any idea how to put battery widgets of different devices on lock screen? I only get one and can't change it or do anything with it. I have seen lock screens where people have AirPods, apple watch etc. battery status at the same time. EDIT: Found it. Just add battery widget and then click it and turn off the "automatic" thingy and then you can choose devices.
Seriously.......What would we all do without YOU ?? You have no idea a how much your expertise is appreciated. Many thanks.....all the way from London !
Thank you for the timely video! I'd already suffered through discovering most the hard way. But I still learned some stuff here! One thing maybe missing from video is that you give up the depth effect once you add the lower widgets. What I learned from this video is that I can add ONE widget to that top bar above the time and still keep my depth!
Is it possible to disable triggering it with longer hold on lock screen? I'm not using different ones, I don't have any. But sometimes I grab my phone and other things to later find out my phone activated the Customization process instead of just showing time and notifications. Is there an option in settings to stop Long Hold from being a trigger to that?
Thank you Gary for this timely video. I just downloaded iOS 16 last night and I’m just getting familiar with it now. You gave me a huge boost with the lock screen. Played along with your video but I can see that I have probably many hours of fooling around to get it just right. Thank you for encapsulating the ability to change it, it speeds up my learning curve.
Brilliant, though struggling to find an easy way to split lock and home backgrounds, when I have selected a lock screen there is no option to access the default wallpapers for the home screen background. Any advice appreciated
Is there anyway to making the boxes smaller or get rid of them? Like even the clock I don’t need it big, I like clear pictures for Home Screen with no extras
You don't need to use any widget at all if you don't want them. But the clock will need to be there. But are you taking about Home Screens or the Lock Screen? A Home Screen can only have a single app icon or one widget on it if you like, but it must have something.
Hey thanks for the video it helped alot! By the way, when I set a Live Photo as my wallpaper, and then I try to tap and hold to see it, it just keeps going into the “edit lockscreen” which is not what I want, anyway to turn off or let me be able to use Live Photo?
Hi Gary! Thank you for your excellent how-to video. Just upgraded my phone to iOS 16 and I have a question about the add new wallpaper. I see that you have a weather one and mine does not have that option I wanted to add it. Is there a way to add it? Thank you
Thank you thank you thank you!!! I somehow accidentally changed my screen and spent an hour trying to get to fix it. 53 seconds into your video you fixed it!!
Hi Gary, thanks for another very useful tutorial. The camera and flashlight are showing on my Lock Screen. Is there a way to remove the flashlight? Occasionally I accidentally turn it on and waste my battery. Thanks.
Gary, you always do great videos. A couple of questions for you. Is there a way to increase the font size (or the overall size) of the widgets? They are very small font and not so easy to read. Also, what about the other space on the Lock Screen below the widget area? Seems like a lot of wasted space where I should be able to add more widgets. Thanks!
No, you can't change the font size in a widget. The space at the bottom is for notifications and "live activities" such as timers, sports scores, approaching deliveries things and such. We'll be seeing a lot of live activities in the near future.
I just have 2 favourite photos. One for Lock Screen, one for HomeScreen. That’s it. Simple Is there any way of removing the other options so they don’t get accidentally selected? This video seems to be only about customisation and to be honest I have more important things to do with my remaining time in this world😊😊
Are some of the features model or country specific? My iPhone 13 Pro doesn't have the Studio option and only has the Depth Affect for the Natural or Black and White option.
Not country-specific. But they are photo-specific. They would only work with photos taken using Portrait mode on the iPhone. Depth Affect needs a photo with a separated background and subject and it has to be positioned right. I talk about that in the video.
I wanted to know if you know of a way that I cant get my iOS 16 setting back to how they used to be in regards to the Lock Screen notification placements. Right now when I get my notifications they are currently at the bottom of the Lock Screen, I would like to bring that back up to the top of the Lock Screen as it was before. Thanks for all your help!!!!!
No way to disable it. Even if there were, a habit of "holding the screen" will continue to cause trouble in every other situation on your iPhone, like the Home Screen or inside an app.
Hi I tried to change the clock font for the existing wallpaper but not successful It’s asking me to add new photo than giving option to change the existing
Looks great Gary but I seem unable to do any of this. I’m running iOS 16.0.2 (20A380) on an iPhone SE. Are these options not available on this combination?
You should be able to do this on your SE as long as you have iOS 16. Check to make sure. Also, don't try to change your old lock screen from before iOS 16, create a new one.
Thanks, Gary, for your usual prompt response. Unfortunately, there seems no way to create a new screen. All I get is the option to add widgets. Holding on the screen just gets everything jiggling. Just started updating to 16.1.1 so I’ll wait to see if that changes anything.
As a newish user of iPhone and Mac I’m loving your videos thank you! Do you have a video in how to set up and use the Focus mode? I’ve avoided it for fear of missing messages but like the idea of linking my Lock Screen and focus more when I’m a meeting etc
u can do it by going to the wallpaper tab in settings, when you choose your picture it’ll change both the lock screen and the home screen but then it’ll give you an option to customize your home screen only
@@mistysmith7212 you have to do it from settings. once you go to the wallpaper tab it’ll show you your lockscreen and your home screen next to each other and it’ll have a customize button on both for you to change them separately
Gary, it won’t let me customize the wallpaper I already have. Also, I don’t feel it’s very customizable as I want to get rid of flashlight on my Lock Screen. Too many times by accident I have turned it on in my purse.
You create a Lock Screen that is a background, then you can return and customize the widgets. To use a different background, create a new Lock Screen. The Flashlight button is not part of it. Have you tried the trick of turning off Tap To Wake to minimize accidentally turning on the Flashlight?
I dont' need the time font to be that large. Please tell me there is a way to make the font size for the time a reasonable size that matches the size of the date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Gary. I don't have weather...would be interested in using that one To be honest, I don't really "get" this as a feature. It feels like a solution to a problem we didn't have. But 🤷♀, maybe some people love it
Not everyone will use every feature. Some people enjoy customizing like this. Others find it useful to have a professional 9-5 lock screen and a more fun evening and weekend one, for instance.
Hi Gary, any chance of a video about creating 'Accessible' PDF documents on Mac Pages? I'm being forced down the MS Word path because it has some inbuilt accessibility checker but surely Pages will do the same - or better!?
What accessibility features are you looking for, exactly? Pages has the ability to do some of that, I'm sure, but I'd need to know what you wanted to add exactly.
@@macmost I haven’t done it too much yet, but I can definitely see it being an issue later. Lol 😂 hard to change habits. Also now I can’t double click to open my wallet. This isn’t my favorite update for sure 👎🏻
Hello! Great video really helped me get my head around it do you know if you can change just the Lock Screen and keep your Home Screen the same? Thanks! :)
You can choose any photo you want for the Home Screen. But they are in pairs. So create one pair with Lock Screen 1, and Home Screen 1, and then another pair with Lock Screen 2 but with the same Home Screen 1.
When building the screen, or later when customizing the screen, taps the widgets so you see the minus button appear. Then tap the widget (not the minus part).
Thank you for the tutorial however, it seems like the backgrounds are pretty limited and very basic… don’t get me wrong, it’s way better than what is was before but still feels simple 😩
You have to have an image with a clear subject and place it so the top of that subject is at the very bottom of the time display. Watch how I do it in the video.
Do you see Weather as an option in the list at the top? Or is it that you can add a Weather screen, it just doesn't work? Maybe you restricted the Weather app's access to your location in Settings, Privacy & Security, Location Services, Weather.
@@cathyccg6204 Customize means to change the widgets. If you want to use a new background, create a new one, use that background, and then delete the old one if you like.
I would like to keep my lock screen on. I don’t know how else to ask it. I would like to have the time available at all times. And then when I want to turn the lock screen off, I can turn it off manually. As it is now, the lock screen turns off after three or four seconds.
You are talking about an always-on-display. That's a feature of the iPhone 14 models. But you can go to Settings, Display & Brightness and change the Auto-Lock time to Never. Only use this while plugged in as it will drain your battery, obviously.
Thanks for the reply- When I tap and hold on the lock screen and then select Customize, the selection choice is Add New, which when selected does not provide an option to keep or modify my original wallpaper image. I've had this image for some time, previously on an iPhone 11, and would like to maintain it on my new iPhone 14 with iOS 16, however, the Add New is assuming I want to change it. Is there a way to keep my original lock screen image and modify the time font? thx
@@bobsmyself You don't see Customize? If not, then is this your left-over Lock Screen from iOS 15? If so, just create a new Lock Screen and then you can customize that one. You'll need to find that image in your Photos library or wherever you store it.
@@macmost As mentioned in my previous reply, When I tap and hold on the lock screen and then select 'Customize', the selection choice is Add New, which when selected does not provide an option to keep or modify my original wallpaper image. I've had this image for some time and it is no longer stored in my photos but somewhere else, I am guessing in the OS? In your video, you show your original lock screen image but do not 'customize' it, instead you are showing how to add and customize a new image. I simply want to customize my existing lock screen image. thx
@@bobsmyself OK, so you'll need to find that image. Without the image, you can't use it again on a new Lock Screen. There's nothing you can do unless you have that image somewhere.
@@pedropuckerstein4670 Thanks for replying. You helped me figure it out. That blur option you mention doesn't seem to be available when using certain wallpapers for a Focus mode. When using any given wallpaper for a Focus mode the background is blurred automatically - at least for me that seems to be the case. Thanks again.
Not sure what you are looking at, perhaps the leftover Lock Screen from before the upgrade? Just create a new one if you want a new background or to add widgets.
I just want to change the font on my existing wallpaper back to how it was in the thin font, not this new ugly bold one! Any idea how to do so? This is extremely annoying of Apple... Thank you for any help.
