Spring is a great time to cut back your Montauk (Nippon) Daisy. In this video, we take those cuttings and try rooting them in both water as well as potting soil. Montauk Daisy looks like a Shasta Daisy, but Shastas bloom in the Summer and Montauks bloom closer to the Fall. Also, they both have a different looking leaf structure to them.

I have heard of these since I’m from Long Island. Bought 2 of these last fall (2023) off the clearance rack. Live in North Carolina now. Cut them back to about 6” from ground in November. This spring they popped. Doubled in size & flowered in June/july. Full of blooms again & starting to open again. Love these. This season I have to cut them back & in spring will divide.

They really are a pretty flower! 🌻 I plan to divide mine next year as well as take cuttings. I need way more of this plant in my life. 😊

I have had 4 montauk daisies in my backyard for years. We don't cut them back nearly enough and they are now bushes about 7 feet across and 4 feet high. I am going to give your method a try this spring because we want to move them but we also want to multiply their effect from 4 big bushes to a long row edging our driveway. Thanks for the information!

Montauk Daisies are such lovely plants! Definitely give my method a try next year. You'll end up with a lot more free plants plus your plants will be shorter and bushier. Next year, I plan to cut mine back more than once because I really want a shorter, more compact plant. Happy gardening, friend! 😊🌼

Hello! I divided a montauk daisy a month ago. I know that wasn’t the best time but my new plant looks to be doing well and has plenty of new leaves! Looking forward to next year 🌞

I've been dividing plants all summer. It's all good. Big thing is to keep those plants watered during the summer heat. I'm so glad you ended up with so many more plants. Next year they will put on a great show! 🏵️☺️

You're welcome! I love finding perennials that bloom later in the season when not much else is blooming. These daisies are a cheery sight in the Autumn! 😊🌼

Never heard of this one. I like that its shorter than the shastia daisy. I will definitely look out for this one at the nursery.2🎉

Definitely be on the lookout for it or even ask for it. I've seen it at the big box stores as well as nurseries later in the summer when the mums and asters are out. It can get unruly but with proper pruning it can be very tidy. ♥🌼

I never heard of it before. With high salt tolerance, these might do well near the entrance of the driveway. Thanks!

Hi Denise! Definitely give them a try. Here where I live, I usually don't see the plants in the garden centers until later in the summer. Be sure to ask your local garden center when they plan on getting these daisies in. 😊♥

I bought a Montauk Daisy and planted it in full bloom 2 years ago (Summer, 2022). I hope to see flowers again in August or September this year (2024) since it did not bloom in 2023. It has gotten large this year, 5x the size on the original plant! I will post a picture on my fb page if I can't post one here of it now and again when it blooms. I would love to know if others have these and if they are biannual plants. Thank you.

Hi there! It's my understanding that the Montauk Daisy is a perennial, not a biennial. A few reasons why it may not have bloomed include if you pruned it back too late in the season, if it's not getting enough sun, if they are getting too much fertilizer or if they are getting too much water. Fingers crossed that your plants bloom for you this year. Please keep me posted. 😊🤞💗

Me either until I saw it at a garden center one fall. So many people have never heard of them so I thought making a video on them would be perfect inspiration. I can't wait to see them bloom later this season. ☺️

These can become HUGE bushes. My neighbor has one and no one knew what it was

Hi there. You're right. They can get pretty big. Cutting them back at least once earlier in the growing season helps keep them shorter and bushier for later in the season. 🌸😊

They look just like Shasta Daisys. I have a bunch of them I started in jugs

Hi Evelyn! What I love is that Shasta Daisies bloom in the early Summer whereas Montauk Daisies bloom later in the Summer or early Fall, after the Shasta Daisies have gone by. Did you start Shasta or Montauk daisies from seed in your milk jugs?
@evelynrogers7145
@evelynrogers7145 5 месяцев назад
@@budgetgardeningvita Yes, I started a lot of them in milk jugs. And other perennial flowers too. Gonna have a plant sale in the middle of May

It's so pretty! A lot of people associate mums with fall, but I thought it'd be fun to highlight this plant since it's also very pretty for fall interest. 🍁🌼🍂

Rooting hormone?
@budgetgardeningvita
@budgetgardeningvita Месяц назад
Hi there! I had success rooting my Montauk Daisies without any rooting hormone, but I'm sure using rooting hormone would increase the chances of your cuttings being able to root. Maybe you could try it both ways and see which way is more successful for you. Happy gardening, friend. 😊🌼
