Welcome to another video about Cut-Content and Pre-Release Version of Rome Total War.
Today, we will look as much as we can into the 2 Campaigns that were planned, but never made it into Release.
1. Caesar in Gaul
This Campaign was later bright into the Franchise for Rome 2, but it was planned to be in Rome 1.
This Campaign seems very Mission based, where you much stay to Historical Accuracy. Much like the Alexander Campaign, or the Fellowship Campaign from Third Age TW.
2. Scipio Campaign
My guess is this was based off of Scipio Africanus. The Roman General who Defeat Hannibal at Zama.
This Campaign, I believed would have took place during the Punic Wars.
However, in the files the settlements names do not match the time. Constantinople for example. So this could quite possibly have been an original Barbarian Invasion, or maybe a Civil War Style of Campaign, like Divide Et Impera.
Overall, there is not much to go by, but still interesting none the less.

There we have it, 2 Cut Campaigns that never made it into the game. Now, these are just the two that did not get all their files deleted. Makes you wonder what else could have been. Hopefully I may soon become large enough to be able to interview a developer and find out more, maybe even get access to an Alpha Build. I'm Working on it : )

@howlerofthegrey9368

For Constantinople(that suppose to be Byzantium)... My first guess would be the Macedonian Wars(214-148 BC) the Roman Republic against Macedonia. I do remember Philip V of Macedon allied with Hannibal. And the Roman Senate went abit of "oh shit" moment fighting on two fronts. But Scipio Africanus campaign with Macedonia makes no sense. But Scipio's family did made a friends with Lucius Aemilius Paullus( the Roman guy who conquer Macedon). ¯\(ツ)/¯ I'm not a historian but I do remember the Punic Wars well. But the Macedonian Wars seem to flew under my radar a number of times.

CA has used the Latin or English names for Rome total war for their own ease and for name recognition. as for why their are so many Hellenistic regions in the Scipio campaign it is to represent Scipio Africanus' campaigns not only in Africa but against the Seleucid king Antiochus III in the Syrian wars.

@@MelkorGG For brand recognition more likely they gave plenty of settlements wrong names and from your beta videos they were a little split when it came to deciding a proper name for the settlements. It was probably cut very early in development so its reasonable to believe that the names were likely placeholders until they could decide on a good one.

Based on the names apperaing in the "Scipio" campaign like Gothi, Geates, Rhoxolania, Iazyges, Vandali I think it is very likable that it was a draft for some late antique campaign, like in Med I the Late Era, that was, for whatever reason, cut away. This would also explain why there are late antique tribes and cities mixed with republican ones, because it was a draft that never got refined. Good vid as always! Edit: Sounds like a mission driven campaign like the Fellowship campaign, because otherwise the references towards newly arrived units, recruting units to fill up the ranks or the "order" to march to this or taht settlement/region would be very strange.

The Battle of Mons Graupius was, according to Tacitus, a Roman military victory in what is now Scotland, taking place in AD 83 or, less probably, 84. The exact location of the battle is a matter of debate. Historians have long questioned some details of Tacitus's account of the fight, suggesting that he exaggerated Roman success. The Battle of Arausio took place on 6 October 105 BC, at a site between the town of Arausio, and the Rhône River. Ranged against the migratory tribes of the Cimbri under Boiorix and the Teutoni under Teutobod were two Roman armies, commanded by the proconsul Quintus Servilius Caepio and consul Gnaeus Mallius Maximus The Battle of Tigranocerta (Armenian: Տիգրանակերտի ճակատամարտ, Tigranakerti tchakatamart) was fought on 6 October 69 BC between the forces of the Roman Republic and the army of the Kingdom of Armenia led by King Tigranes the Great. The Roman force, led by Consul Lucius Licinius Lucullus, defeated Tigranes, and as a result, captured Tigranes' capital city of Tigranocerta.[2] The battle arose from the Third Mithridatic War being fought between the Roman Republic and Mithridates VI of Pontus, whose daughter Cleopatra was married to Tigranes. Mithridates fled to seek shelter with his son-in-law, and Rome invaded the Kingdom of Armenia. Having laid siege to Tigranocerta, the Roman forces fell back behind a nearby river when the large Armenian army approached. Feigning retreat, the Romans crossed at a ford and fell on the right flank of the Armenian army. After the Romans defeated the Armenian cataphracts, the balance of Tigranes' army, which was mostly made up of raw levies and peasant troops from his extensive empire, panicked and fled, and the Romans remained in charge of the field.[2] 1 roman Britannia campian 2 Cimbrian War 3 Third Mithridatic War link en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Tigranocerta en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Mons_Graupius en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Arausio

Little late, but I think all of the smaller campaigns, prologue included, are divided into "missions", probably using the same structure as the senate missions in the main campaign as a way to trigger the next set of dialogue/events to unfold without building a bespoke one way flag to keep events moving. Or it's just the easiest way for the devs to divide out the voice lines so everyone knew what was what.
@palomo9385

11:37 Feigned rout? This sounds like a false retreat typical of the Scythians. While fighting a unit they retreat en masse, not moving away, but luring a unit to an isolated location so that the rest of the enemy army doesn't come to their aid, so they can then massacre the unit together, much like skirmish mode. . Does anyone agree with me?

Just based on some of those settlement/region names it really looks like the Scipio campaign was just the first version of Barbarian Invasion before they decided to make it into an expansion instead? It makes no sense they would include the entirety of Europe if it was just going to follow one individual. They would do like in Ceaser in Gaul and only include the relevant provinces.
