This is that one uncle that knows everything and you ask him if you ever have an issue at your house or your car and what not! This is what I’m talking about OG! And genuine!

First time I have seen someone actually explain the geometry of the blade. Nothing beats simple and to the point video's like this that can help so many save time and money by not using the wrong tools for the job. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.

Imagine! Someone on RU-vid making a systematic assessment of different cutting methods and basing their recommendations on factual results! This is the only video on this subject worth watching. My compliments, sir.

thank you sir i just watched 8+ videos of people cutting plexiglass and melting it they all recommended doing it that way. im glad i finally found a way to just cut it, without chipping the edges or melting.

I've watched about 7 or 8 videos on how to do this and yours is the most informative. None of the other videos highlighted that you need a specific cutter like yours did. It makes perfect sense too. I am going to need to be cutting a lot of plexi and this was very helpful.

Perspex doesn't melt like Plexiglass when you cut it with a jigsaw. In order to make sure that the Perspex doesn't fracture, just cut it with a jigsaw on top of a 150mm thick piece of Polystyrene. The Polystyrene absorbs the shock and stops your substrate from jumping around.

Happened across your video and your informative, gentle way of passing along information captured and kept my interest, even though I have absolutely no need at the time to cut plexiglass, lol. Even so, I’m now interested in getting one of these tools, and have subscribed to your channel, as I like to play informative RU-vid videos in the background to listen to (NEVER watch) on my long commute to work. May I ask the specific plexiglass knife you use? There are quite a few options on Amazon and the one you used seemed to do the job well. Thanks again for the video and I look forward to learning more from your videos. Have a great one!
@MrHardware1

The one I used is no longer available. The company has changed its manufacture. I have used several brands of plexiglass dry knives, and they really all work the same. The only difference is if you were cutting a lot of it you could buy a carbide tipped one.

@@MrsMarshmellow2011 yup, just make more passes. The deeper the cuts, the easier (and safer) the break.

Just plastic as far as I know. When I’m cutting thin wood, I use a sharp utility knife blade.

Saber or Jig saw, a band saw works well also. I can’t cut a circle w/a draw cutter.
@hubnz
@hubnz Год назад
Most plastics but especially PMMA (aka plexiglass) need a negative cutting angle so they shave materials off most saw blades have positive cutting angles for wood or metals. Also never use ethanol or methylated spirit on PMMA as it leads to chemical stress cracking.

Will this be able to cut through 5mm thick plexiglass?
@MrHardware1
@MrHardware1 11 месяцев назад
When the plexiglass is thick, like a quarter inch, maybe I’ll make five or six passes. I’ve also flipped the plexiglass over and made passes on the opposite side, which facilitates snapping the plexiglass easier.

HOW DOES THIS WORK IF YOU NEED TO CUT A THREE INCH CIRCLE ?
@MrHardware1
@MrHardware1 Год назад
I use a hole saw for circles, a saber saw, (jig saw) w/a coarser blade for curved lines. Sometimes I need a drizzle of water to prevent the plastic from melting as I’m cutting.
