This baby monkey was confiscated from illegal trade and hunting. We confiscated it to be raised and will be released into a conservation forest.

It’s not unusual to give newly rescued animals water with sugar in it. Giving a starving baby animal milk can put them in shock.

It's not cruel. It's interacting with a the infant, keeping the infant stimulated. This is what the mother and siblings would do in the wild

I'm assuming this video (best case scenario) is from a rescue by an animal welfare group and a wildlife poacher had been trying to sell the baby gibbon into the illegal pet trade, or someone had already bought it, and the infant was confiscated by the authorities. They usually give them water mixed with sugar right after rescuing them because they're usually very dehydrated. Presumably it was given specialized infant formula later; just giving them ordinary cow's milk would make them sick as they can't digest it.
