Cute Baby Wrens Leave The Nest Box

All five fledgling baby House Wrens left the nest box and went out into the big wide world. Always exciting when birds fledge the nest - an hour long drama is condensed into a five minute video as the five youngsters leave the box with varying degrees of difficulty.
Amazingly the House Wren parents have already started another family in the same nest box. Not going to be many insects in the yard later this summer.

If they are anything like people, one of the birds won't move out till he's 35.

I've been Godfather to 6 mating pairs this Summer. American Sparrows, Mourning Doves, American Robins, Mockingbirds, Bewick's Wrens, Cardinals and Common Yellow Throats. I have extensive organic gardens, ornamentals and raised beds of huge wildflowers, more interestingly, half of the back garden is a 45,000 gallon in ground swimming pool. For two and one half months I was also playing lifeguard!!! The little doves were as calm, they'd fly up to me as would the baby wrens when I would be dead heading the gardens, and just stare at me.

Great to see them how they leave the nest! The best scene was for me at 3:34, as one chick has another one pushed out. You've filmed it beautifully :-)

I have been watching the wrens off my deck for that last month building the nest in the birdhouse, chirping daily, bringing food, chirping, then today went outside and the silence was deafening. I looked in the birdhouse and they were gone. ☹️ I missed seeing them leave. I don’t know what I’m going to do now. I really enjoyed them. I’ve had a house hanging in a tree by my deck for a few years now and this was the first time someone used it. It was an great experience. I hope the babies survive out there.

I just missed my baby wrens from fledging today! When I got home they were out chipping all over the yard. Loved watching as they were near my window! So cute 🥰. Will miss them. They are amazing tiny but mighty birds.

I have a porch which has six openings which I never closed up with any glass. Over the years numerous nests have been built there. It's up to five nests, but only one of them seems to be used now. Last year it was robins. This year it was wrens. I didn't see any of them fledge, but one day I started hearing constant squawking, and finally went to check and found a baby wren flapping its heart out against a closed window that can't open. So I went to get a big towel so I could get it and let it free outside. But when I opened the inside door, it followed me and flew inside, right up against another closed window. It seemed to be in shock as it just lay in the corner of the window. I know I was in shock myself. I had to get a ladder to get up to it and when I wrapped the towel around it it kind of screamed (in bird language). I wasn't sure if I hurt it or not. But I took it outside and opened the towel and it flew right up to a nearby tree and hung out there for a long while.

I've got a nest in my porch area that is screened in. Carolina Wrens made the nest when I had the door off. Not going to put the door back on till they leave. Problem is I have a cat that seems to be waiting for them and knows they are there as the cat watches the parents fly back and forth all day feeding the young. My plan is to keep an eye on their size and when the parents stop feeding them I will no longer let the cat out for a few days. My cat will not be happy with me if I keep her in too long. Any comments or advice welcome.

Love this! We have a wren that built a nest in the grill of my truck. I noticed it when I seen a bird fly out of it. Of course I go look at there is some baby birds in there...Bout a week ago when I noticed.Needless to say I told my husband that we’re not driving the truck til the birds are all grown and gone. Wondering if you know how long that normally takes? Thank you

This is awesome. I put up a wren bird house awhile ago and a wren took possession of it immediately. Two weeks I could hear the baby wrens in the house. Two days ago (Aug. 1, 2019) the noise from the baby wrens was getting louder. Yesterday, the babies started sticking their heads out of the house. This morning, they were sticking their heads out a bit farther. They are ready to leave the nest soon. What a privilege it is to witness this. I took some photos this morning of them and I am hoping to take more photos of them ready to leave their nest. It is awesome to witness in person.

😆 So funny! I wonder what they were saying to each other. So cute. I had a family in an old, old, old birdhouse birdfeeder hanging on a low dead branch very visible this year. The first time ever a bird chose that house in 20+ years of it hanging there getting more and more dilapidated each year. I have grainy wired security cam video of two fledglings each on May 1, 3, 5 and 10. That's 8 eggs!!! I'm glad I saw your video because it let's me know they may start another family in it so I won't clean it out yet.

Great to see this!!! Last weekend the house wren family of 4 babies left nest. I saw one baby was out standing next to the nest, then a parent came with a worm fed in the nest. In the next 2-3 hours 3 other babies came out of nest and went to lower branches. The parents were flying up and down during this time. I was hiding inside at corner of window but in the end the parents saw me and flew left and right close to the window. Then they flew away. By that time, there were no babies on the grass. The next day, one adult bird was busy going in and out of nest taking things out. I could not tell if it was the parent. Do you think there was another baby on the next day when the adult bird was here or was that bird from another family? I have not seen further activities but don't want to go close to interrupt. This is mysterious!

I am watching a nest in a birdhouse by my deck using binoculars and it has been such fun. They are good and industrious parents - fending off squirrels and any bird they deem a threat. Mine are close to fledging and I hope I'm able to catch it when they do. Great video of what to expect and your comments during it made me laugh.

Nice video, how close to your house is that birdhouse? It looks pretty close to the ground and I don't know if wrens mind people passing by their birdhouse every day. Also, do you remove the nest after they fledge and clean the birdhouse, or leave it alone? I've heard advocates for both practices, some say it's better to leave it alone so the birds can just reuse it in a month or two.

I left a comment on your last video of parents feeding them. I’ve been feeding Carolina wrens that the parents quit feeding a long time ago. They barely had feathers when I noticed mom not coming back anymore. So do you think I should stop feeding them and just keep an eye on them for a few to make sure no cats from the neighborhood get them.

If they are in a nest the parents may be feeding when you're not watching. Keep an eye on them and see how it goes.

You should study what your " cute little wrens " do to other birds. They are an egg and nest destroying highly destructive species. But if you're " cute " I guess it doesn't matter.

House Wrens are a native and natural part of the Backyard flora and fauna - they've got a lot of "personality" and will fight for nest space, but that's the way it is in Nature many other species nest in the Backyard too. I do not live in an area where Bluebirds live too much heavy forest and I understand they are partial to Bluebird nest boxes.

@@MyBackyardBirding did you mean blue jay by blue birds? How big a house do they need? I made an insulated plastic house for house wrens, they used it! I see blue jays in yard but dont know how to attract them to use the bird house...
