I had the pleasure of contacting the Cutech tech support team this week. I have a 16 year old Ridgid TP1300 planer. It has seen heavy hardwood use all this time. Cutech still makes (almost) the same planer. Two years ago, I needed to replace the feed rollers and called them. Getting parts from Ridgid was a joke. Cutech said the rollers on the new machines would fit my old machine. I bought them (very low cost) and some misc hardware, chains, belts, etc. Perfect fit. Recently, I began having issues with the carriage/cutter/motor assembly. I e-mailed Cutech and got some very detailed suggestions of issues to look at. They informed me that some of the design engineers for the TP1300 were still on the staff. How about that?? My TP1300 may be too far gone. If so, I am absolutely buying a Cutech. Thx.

Your video of this planer and the 10" jointer was the last thing I needed to purchase both.. and I also ordered the new cast iron fence for the jointer. Excellent videos - well done and comprehensive.. Also I have had a few chats with the San Diego Cutech staff and they are AWESOME people to work with.. always nice knowing you are spending your money on good products supported by great people. Thanks, Larry

I lean toward the Wahuda planer. Same build as the Cutech, but used 4-sided carbide inserts, has table extensions & dust port is centered so can be directed to either side. More expensive, but appears to be from the same factory too. Thank you for this excellent review!

The Wahuda looks like a really nice machine, no doubt! I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Thanks so much for the kind words!

Nice Review, and the weight of these machines is no joke! As you get older, you're more at risk of throwing your back out or getting a hernia, both of which totally suck. So, that big DeWalt planer, even tough it looks nice... I won't get one unless I have space for it, and someone to help me move it up onto a locking rolling base so I don't have to solo lift it when working alone. I have a smaller WEN planer I can manage OK, but I know my limits and hefting around a 90+ device is too risky for me. If you're a big strong dude might be no problem though.

I agree the weight of the planer is a big issue for me, and definitely I wouldn't be able to lift the dewalt up on to my workbench on a regular basis like I do the cutech or wen.

Just purchased the 13” cutech 2speed with the free carbide inserts. 619.00. I have a lot of wood to plane it’s gonna get a workout.

Cutech is offering a free set of carbide cutters when you buy the HSS model now. It's funny that if you get the model with the carbide cutters already installed it costs more and you don't get the HSS set. Thanks for another great video. Edit: the two speed Wen has the same depth stop as the Cutech and the stamping in the metal on the sides is the same too. I bet it is just branding differences: that is a lot less expensive than having different tooling to make the different mechanisms.

Great, that special that Cutech has on the free carbide cutters seems pretty good, I guess you get both an HSS set and also a carbide set. Good to have a spare, I guess. Thanks for watching!

@@jkmwoodworking I wanted to thank you for this and the last video. I decided on the Wen, as it seems to be exactly the same thing only in orange and black for $529.99 shipped with HSS cutters. If I go to one of your recommendations of Amazon I get 30 carbide cutters shipped for $73.11. All for a grand total of 603.10 making Wen the winner for $16.89 less AND with four EXTRA carbide cutters. WHAT A BARGAIN. Oh, sorry for yelling. I had a few too many beers. Woo hoo.

Glad to hear the video was helpful! Seems like you came to a great decision. Haha!, I wasn't aware of any yelling, and a few beers sounds pretty good!

Why does the head being spiral count as a spiral cutter?, I guess the blades are staggered which I guess might help the cut?, I used to have a bird head I installed into a rigid 13" planer, I can't remember if knives where square, wildfire got my shop. It cut great.

Very informative vid to introduce this new (to me) brand Cutech. I am in the market for either a used or new planer and still deciding. Weight is a factor, if I get the heavy dewalt i will need to build a rolling bench which will negate any price advantage it has at the moment. Subscribed now 😊

All 3 are good plainers, the DeWalt is superior and more stout...I like that my DeWalt is heavy, it helps, built a cart for mine so lifting is not an issue but to get it up there the one time lol...use my work bench for out feed...it's all good...
@jkmwoodworking

Thanks for sharing! Great idea on making the cart just the right height to be able to use the work bench as an out feed!
