Cutout, Assembly, and Finishing - The Tea Shelf Project - Part 3
More down here ↓↓↓ Click SHOW MORE!
In this video, I’ll finally finish the Tea Shelf project.
First I’ll show you the material I’m going to use, then plane, rip, and cross cut the material to size. Then I’ll show you my process for gluing up panels, surfacing the panels on the CNC, then cutting out the project parts.
Finally, I’ll show you how I stained, assembled, then finished the completed tea shelf.
As usual, if you have any comments or questions about anything I covered in this video, please join me for the Live Q&A, or put ‘em in the comment section below.
On Sunday, March 13th, I’ll be hosting a LIVE Q&A session, where you can ask your questions pertaining to anything I’ve covered in this video. That Q&A starts at 3 pm Eastern time, Noon Pacific time. Hope to see you there!

My-t-fine video. It was great to see your setup for the job and the explanation as you went through each step. Also how Linda likes it being the acceptable result. I have used double sided tape with some successes and some failures, I have recently used the painters tape method a couple of times and think that I am going to use that in the future. That said the demonstration and explanation of the tape was beneficial to me.

I've been using it a lot over the last 5 or 6 years, and it's never failed me - not once. Another benefit I forgot to mention is there isn't nearly as much residue left behind on the bit after cutting through the tape. I cut out all the parts of this project and didn't need to clean the bit at all. (Of course I cleaned it after I was finished with the project, but I do that anyway.)

That was awesome! The project came out great and I'm digging the shop and the monitor attached to that arm is great!!

believe or not but the harbor freight 1 hp dust collector (but you can go to the bigger one for not much more) with a 4 inch dust deputy works great. You have to remove the screen on the blower or the collector to get good resolute. It cause a big loss in cfm.

I take it you missed today's Live Q&A. I have the 2hp HF dust collector, ready to assemble. I'll be getting a Dust Deputy for it next.

Really enjoyed the video, thanks for your instruction. Question? you entertained the thought and made a comment about upgrading your dust collection. I to want to upgrade from the old shop vac. What would you recommend if you don't mind me asking? I appreciate your help and look forward to your next video. Thank you

Thank you, Ron! I'm not really in a position to recommend a dust collector. I just bought a Harbor Freight 2 hp dust collector, and I'm adding a Dust Deputy to it as soon as it gets here. Then I get to go out and get the ducting for it. I haven't even opened the boxes yet, so I can't say whether its a good system or not. Keep watching though. I'll be sure to include it in a video or two. If it's really good, I'll do a video on it.

Mark remember even with the 4-inch hose you're still going to find that as the brush hangs over the project dust is going to escape And why do you not like to use polyurethane?
@MarkLindsayCNC
@MarkLindsayCNC 2 года назад
I much prefer to use Lacquer - mainly because it dries so much faster, and I can recoat quicker. Most polyurethanes I have used require the piece to sit and off-gas for 72 hours before sanding and applying the final top coat. With lacquer, I can sand and top coat the next day. I think lacquer has a warmer glow to it, but that's very subjective. I had to use polyurethane because it's a kitchen project that will be subjected to lots of exposure to steam (via boiling pots on the stove, etc...) and also because the humidity was very high when it was time to spray the finish. Lacquer would have blushed bigtime. So, polyurethane does have its place, but it's not my go-to finish.
