the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. ru-vid.comUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

Gorgeous work! You mention being new(ish) to woodworking. I'm old and started young. Broke most every safety rule with too many bad scares and some injuries. Still have 10 fingers. I know several woodworkers who don't. Long way to say, IT HAPPENS SO FAST it's impossible to imagine. Please, please give a little more thought to safety. Luck is something that sometimes turns. And yes, I now do everything I can to stay safe in the shop. Again, big praise for your craft.

Good job. Suggestion - for the first glue-up, don't glue the sticks all along the same edge (perpendicular to the first stick). Instead, glue each piece at an offset that matches the chevron angle. Then when you cut the first chevron angle, you'll have much less waste.

@joelmiller8110 3 года назад
Great video, but I feel I should say for any beginners that your table saw safety isn't up to scratch. You often leave your blade too high, coupled with no riving knife means you are far more likely to get kickback. If you do, you are stood right behind your piece. I've seen (on Stumpy Nubs channel) kickback spear a 2x4 straight through a solid door. OUCH!

Beautiful piece and a true craftsman. I've made a few similar boards and recently tried to offset the pieces in the first glue-up so they follow the angle of the subsequent cut. It definitely takes more clamps, but when making angled cuts, it significantly reduces waste (those big triangle cut-off pieces). Hope that helps

Maybe they didn't like the fact that he didn't use a push stick (especially on cuts way too thin), setting a terrible example for other woodworkers trying to learn a new craft. Maybe they came here to learn how to make this rather than just watch someone make it. He left out some critical directions for how to make this. I.e. degree he cut the original slab on the miter saw, what wood glue he used or that he didn't extensively soak it in mineral oil before using butcher block conditioner (like what's recommended in overwhelming majority of other cutting block vids) etc... It is a gorgeous piece none the less. I will also add his method is easier than some other vids achieving the same result.
