Just wanted to say thank you for posting this, did this on my AP2 today. I haven’t been driving it for 8 months because of those buckets, I finally bought all tools you listed and got it done (struggled a bit, was kinda tough) but so grateful and thankful for this video. You rock! I rewatched this about 50 times during each step hah.
Wish I had watched this before I started. So much easier to do it this way than completely remove both axles... Ended up removing one axle, and leaving the other axle in. Definitely recommend doing it this way. Thanks for sharing.
Nice video! wouldnt swapping the worn drivers side to the passenger side though just transfer the vibration to that side? or do the buckets have different contact points on passenger/ driver side?
speaking from experience, the cv bucket swap is a waste of time, it will only reduce the vibration or it may get rid of it for only a short time depending how much and how you drive. If you want a 100% guarantee fix, get megan racing axle spacers. I did this and finally got rid of all the vibration. I suspect that stock shocks get worn out over time which have the same effect as getting coilovers on stock axles but not as dramatic which is why the vibration is not as bad as when u get coilovers
+GuyX2013 It depends on how bad the vibration is. If it is minimal swapping the cv buckets or using axle spacers will likely fix it. If the vibration is really bad the combination of the two solutions will work even better. I'm going to make a video about this soon explaining why the vibration happens.
Great video. I didn't see you mention removing abs sensor. Doesn't not removing it risk damaging abs wire as you push the hub out far enough to remove axle from diff? (Especially since you're doing that blind with your foot). Did you get away without removing abs sensor, or did that just get overlooked in the video?
I think you do risk damaging the ABS wiring if you don't unbolt it from the control arm. I recently did this process and ended up unbolting the ABS wiring since I was a little uncomfortable with the tension. I made this video a long time ago when I had less experience so I would say it is overlooked. I should remake this video with better visuals and better voice overs. Thanks for pointing that out.
Going to be doing this fix on the weekend, I've been experiencing clicking noises when driving the car at slow speeds. Half shaft spacers didn't fix it. Wish me luck!
cant emphasize how great of a job youre doing nonetheless ! Really like how youre doing video's on common s2k issues like the cv buckets at the cig lighter being loose keep up the great work youre video's are by far the best on youtube when it comes to the s2k
after reading on s2ki, I think I have this problem. There seems to be no straight answer on what type of grease to use. How did the valvoline turn out for you?
Quick question. Would this job recommend getting new boot repair kit if my boot isn't torn? Can i just buy grease and bucket swap, and add spacers then done?
+calpitoc I am about to head on vacation but I will do a walk around when I get back. I will also do a review when I complete my first track day which is in less than a month.
My car just got the whole driveline fixed and it’s still vibrating at 40-50 mph during high rpms and Then it goes away. They have new axles and the car is lowered on springs. Im assuming CV buckets are good. I must need axel spacers?
DIYGuys I brought it to the shop and the shop tech thinks it was the driveline because it was shaking under acceleration. They changed it and it still vibrates under acceleration. They did see 2 brand new axles Duralast axles. I think the vibration is coming from the cheap axles.
@@DIYGuysvideo For reference, it is a M12x1.25 nut. You could screw on the castle nut backwards in a pinch, but they are fairly fragile, so if possible a regular nut would be best.
