Man thanks alot you are definitely down to earth on this science of clutching I’m still in the beginner mode myself.. I just ordered a cvtech for my outlander 650 because I went 29.5 assassinators and they are definitely heavy so thanks again
Excellent video brotha thank you for taking the time! Just grabbed 32's for my 20' 1000 xmr so looking into a clutch that doesn't break the bank too bad.
I just installed my CV Tech on my 2019 Renegade XXC 1000 and I’m running 31 super swampers with RJWC dual exhaust and tuner. But I wasn’t too satisfied with my clutch until I watched this thanks for the info man! Gonna try the pennies and see how that helps!
Awesome video, I’m in the same boat, just got the same clutch with roughly the same tires, like you said this is kinda one of those things that’s what’s right for you’re riding style!
Very good info, I bought a cvt from a vendor in Edmonton/Sherwood park and I’m hoping they got it tuned properly lol, haven’t installed it yet, can’t wait to try it when the weather warms up
I bought from the same place , and set for 28zillas and it was dead on. Now I’m on 30 super atv intimidators and so far works great . They know their shit . I run a 1000
@@KevinSmith-ij1ry if I had anything to give away you would have won it. Lol. Ya my life flashed b4 my eyes when I spotted it on the bench. I was wondering how long b4 someone noticed. Can't do anything but laugh about it now. Cheers 🍻
FYI belts also will make a difference & the secondary clutch will also make a difference spent a lot of time playing with snowmobile clutches same principle as atvs there is no one size fits all it takes time & a lot playing around but that's how you learn
Nice video ! I have a cvt tech on my 1000 , picked up from Motorsports Addicts and it was set up perfect for 28 zillas now I’m on 30 super atv intimidators and hopefully it set up for that . The only thing I will say, don’t be like me but clean the cvt tech with a air gun, I didn’t and in low gear at engagement it was jerky and hard to control, cleaned it and smooth a silk . Can’t wait to see you results.
I was really hoping I would be like you and bolt it on and be happy. But my luck is never that way lol. But it gives me content for the channel. Did more testing and parts are ordered. Will be following up on this for sure. Thanks for watching. I love the feed back I'm getting already from this video. Cheers 🍻
@@RobMillerATV I’m interested because of the know how , incase I need to go down the same path at one point . Plus your videos are like me sitting in the shop having a beer and working on the machine lol . Did you find a can am clutch group on fb ? As there is one . 🍻
I was on a fb group called can am clutch tuning i think. It was good for tire, and oil questions, showing off your ride. But not much about clutches. Lol
thanks for the video it was very helpful. I recently got my cv tech clutch but I'm not happy with it and I need some help. there was a drop-down bar when I was purchasing this clutch that was asking what size tires, I selected 29/30's but definitely not working right, I have a 2023 outlander xmr with K&N intake and full HMF Titan Exhaust the bike also is tuned with dyno jet power vision 3 running ATV Terminators 29.5X10X14 on MSA Wheels, my stall/Engagement went from 1800 stock clutch to 2900 RPM that's way to high and also, I know that the clutch is slipping is not grabbing the belt hard. when I get on my bike, and I hit the throttle, and the rpm jumps up the bike starts to pull but there is time where I fell the belt slipping cause out of the sudden you can hear the motor RPM spike up a bit then grabs again. my stock was running way better :) if any of you guys can tell me what weight and spring, I should run I would gladly appreciate
30x10 sti outback max. They measure 30 with a tape measure. Not 28.5 like most brands. They are heavy. I only wanted 30x9 but only had the 10 inch wide in stock at the time. Thanks for watching!
Good video can you show how You got proper torque on the primary nut? Calls for 130 foot pounds. When you get around to it. I know you only zapped it with the impact this time around. Thanks
Take that weight off the back of the primary and you'll see some improvement in throttle response. And the plastic limiter inside of the primary remove that as well
@@RobMillerATV nice , you should definitely try taking off the back plate I guarantee 💯% you'll notice the snappy throttle. Just mark the plate before taking it off if you'd like to put it back on but you most likely won't
Great video! I was looking for a detailed explanation on how these clutches work, what the fingers do, what adding or removing weights do, and what the spring does. This video naiked it and I finally get it. The only thing I don't get is when installing the clutch back on the bike you said toy have to line something up, what is that? Will it be apparent when I am doing it? Do you put lock tite on that nut so it doesn't come off? I read the cvtech clutches have blown up in high heat scenarios are you worried about this? I have a 650xmr and I read they make peak power at 8000rpm so I would need lighter weights on the fingers and a lighter spring to keep the stall around 2000rpm.
@@RobMillerATV Thanks for the reply. I just ordered mine but directly from Cvtech as no shop said they have one for my 2021. I even called the shop you recommended in the video. They said they would get back to me but never did. Hopefully by next week I'll have the clutch and I am going to try a stiffer secondary spring to get more mid to low end torque. Excited for this project.
What makes the CVtech clutch better than stock if they are both 2 piece churches? It still has the potential to have only one wide of the clutch grabbing the belt. I just started down this rabbit hole as I bought a 650xmr and previous owner put on 30" Cryptid's and 24" rims from a 850. Now I need to get the proper clutching for it and was told Cvtech was the way to go.
Hey rob what would you recommend… my setup is, a cvtech primary with 29.5 assassinators tires on a outlander 650 max I’m thinking a 1016 spring with 16 gram weights or do you think a 1017 spring right now there is a 1025 that came in it and I was told to go with a 1014 or 1020 setup with those 16 gram weights??? Please any advice is greatly appreciated thanks
I just put this same clutch in mine and just now 2/12/21 at 1030 pm just test drove my outlander 2019 xmr 1k and im not impressed i feel the belt is not slipping anymore,I can feel the engine brake get harder every down shift but take off is high rpm but just dont feel like its pulling hard just like you said in this video do you have a end result yet ? did the penny work or should I use two??
Ok so I'm trying to get this right. So you saying change the weights to get the engagement rom right first and then you can change the spring to set shiftout rpm. Is this right?
The engine brake is the one way bearing. Not sure if you could order a free spinning bearing for it. I'm not sure why anyone would want to get rid of it. So I doubt it can be done.
@@RobMillerATV i want becouse i use it most time on the road with road tyres,so i want to keep it rolling after left throtle...sorry for my bad english
I have a cvtech that came pretuned. They had a 1025 spring in it and my engagement was at 2400. He sent out another spring the 1015 and now I’m at 1550.. I’m not sure if I need a spring or weight to bring it up to the 2k
@@RobMillerATV well it was pretty tough to bc I have a lot of snow and no real dry place to run. But I did get to spin the tires and only could get up to 6900-7 k rpms and once it reached this the atv acted like it was trying to stall or almost like a traction control engaged. I’m assuming that was belt slip?
@@RobMillerATV that low though? I’m thinking of going to the 1020 spring that has an engagement of 300-1200. The 1025 was at 400-1600 and the 1015 is at 200-900. So I’m thinking the 300 will bring me back up hopefully to the 2k mark
Try to get a proper shiftout test and go from there. Are you running a 1000r? Sounds like u might have to lighten up the weights a bit. And stiffen up the spring. But lighting up the weight might help your engagement move up in rpm. I'm not a professional by any means. This is my first rodeo lol.
As you add weight you will eventually need a bigger spring to hold the weights and dial in your stall. I got luck with mine. I didn't need a spring. But I was surprised I didn't.
@@RobMillerATV Mark Sommer helped me get it set. Shimmed out the primary with a washer (fat belt I think). Now I’m hitting my rev limiter with #09 weights (22oz each). Gonna put in a penny on each and try to get it to hold a little lower.
