It would be great to see a detailed explanation of how all theese software components interact, what exactly they do etc - hate just blindly using something when I dont know exactly how it works.

It’s nice to hear from you and thanks for posting your question here. I have detailed information on my website and feel free to reach out to me from there. Please visit k0pir.us/24-khz-cw-skimmer-with-the-icom-7610-how-to/ 73 and good DX!

@@HamRadioAdventures thanks but the info on your website again just says what they do and how to set them up - doesn’t afaik actually explain how each component works i.e what does the null modem part actually do? what does the hifi audio cable s/w do? Why are all these different pieces of software needed and exactly how do they interact i.e a diagram showing how the radio, computer and all the software components with their relevant interconnections and signal paths would be tremendously helpful - thanks

I see you used an App called Hi Fi Cable. Can I assume it is the same as Virtual Audio Cable that I already have installed? I enjoy your posts 73 Rick, W2JAZ

Hi Richard, Nice to hear from you and thank you. It is the VB-Audio Hi-Fi-Cable that Icom recommends to use. It comes from www.vb-audio.com You can see more about it in the Icom document " Preparations for using the IC-7610 with HDSDR application" I have an article here: www.k0pir.us/24-khz-cw-skimmer-with-the-icom-7610-how-to/ 73, Rich, K0PIR

Just installed CWSkimmer and I do not see the IC-7610 as an option for Radio 1 or Radio 2. Any Suggestions?

Nice to hear from you and thanks for commenting. That's odd. So you're trying to use OmniRig and the IC-7610 like I did in the video and yours doesn't display the IC-7610 in the drop down? OmniRig supports it, so maybe you have an older version of omnirig. Have a look here: dxatlas.com/omnirig/ Icoms PDF shows using Kenwood in OmniRig and CAT to HDSDR in HDSDR. You could use it that way if needed. I just didn't like the flickering. It does work FB though. 73, Rich, K0PIR

Updated Omni-Rig and now see the IC7610 option is displayed. Thank you!

I now have it working correctly with the 7610 in WIDE mode, so 170 Khz of spectrum is skimmed

Hi Andrew, great to hear that. What I am getting is 170 kHz from CWS into my spotcollector. I can also see it in the CWS band scope. Is that what you are seeing?

I see you set the hifi cable sample rate to 192kHz but yet only get 24kHz of visible BW on CWS, as if the sample rate was actually 48kHz. Have you been able to get 96 kHz of visible BW

I'd love to see how to work with HDSDR profiles when you get time.

I understand CW uses Single-Side-Band, but how do you know if it's on the Upper Side Band or Lower (USB or LSB)? And when would you use the CW setting? Is it possible for HDSDR to output both, audio to your speakers, AND IF to the Virtual Cable? The problem is I'm not having much luck decoding.. I've tried setting CW Skimmer's Signal Source to Virtual Audio Cable Line1 and Line2, sampling rate to 192k, but there doesn't appear to be any signal in the graphic once I 'start'. I left all other settings to the default (ex. TUNE At 0.0 kHz). HDSDR itself shows morse activity (bandwidth 192k) and it seems to be outputting I/F I (Left), Q (Right) to the VAC1 because if I go to the moresecode scphillips audio-decoder website, and set it to allow for microphone input (Line 1 (Virtual Audio Cable)), I see activity in the graphic area of the webpage.. but that too can't seem to decode anything. The CW transmission is set at 467.562Mhz and a Words-Per-Minute of 20, Tone Frequency 1khz. I understand the difference between the incoming CW and the LO should be the audio tone (~1khz)... but not sure where the problem could be!

Ben Nguyen hello and thank you for commenting here. CW is keying a carrier. Here is a conversation I just saw on QRZ, because there is some misunderstanding about what MCW actually is. forums.qrz.com/index.php?threads/ham-radio-modulated-cw-with-fldigi-not-a2a-how-it-works-and-is-it-wider-than-regular-cw.681826/ And here is some information on CW and CW reverse. k1yrd.org/nets/newburyport-ragchew-net/fn42-cw-call-freq/cw-n-vs-cw-r-on-icom-radios/ 467.562 MHz? I’m not sure of the question, but I hope that helps. Best 73 and happy Thanksgiving!

Ben Nguyen On the decoding problem make sure that you have the correct settings in CWS because it sounds like something is off. I would suspect the audio tab. If you see the signals and it’s not decoding, I noticed during the contest that if I was out of the ARRL band plan for CW it would not decode , so I had to change it to contest and that is in the CW skimmer settings, under misc. and band plan.
