The 2024 Mazda CX-90 has two different LED headlight and taillight offerings. This car vid looks at the differences between the standard light package and the upgrade premium lighting.
The standard headlights and taillights are available on the standard 3.3 L inline six cylinder and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). The premium lighting is available only on the Turbo S six cylinder models.

The first generation Mazda 3 is mainly the reason I became a Mazda fan. That vehicle offered style and value. Our ‘05 GT had HID headlights, and our ‘06 GT also had HID headlights and rain sensing wipers. In the US, that car arguably redefined the compact car segment. However, lately Mazda seems stingy, offering only a partially heated steering wheel, even in the highest spec’ed CX-90, an infotainment screen that allows hand touch only part of the time, and now LEDs that light up only in the highest trim model. Not encouraging. The logical replacement for my 2019 CX-9 Signature, from a price and content standpoint, is the Turbo Premium Plus, but, while I can accept the 60 hp deficit, I find it more difficult to accept the other omissions, especially the lack of a second row bench seat option.

Looks like a programming thing. Why add all the lights, esp in the back, and not light them lol. As a cx 90 owner, that’s stupid and didn’t realize it until now.

I find it weird as well but it's def intentional. People have been complaining about it since the launch. Just trying to drive people to the upper trims I guess...

Unfortunately, it is not a programming thing. You have to replace the housings. 😢

Same goes for the cx-5. Select tru regular carbon edition have silly lights and premium and up have the cool led lights. I bought my car thinking I would get those lights only to find out it was metal piece.

In Australia all models have the same DRLs except any models below the GT SP, the DRLS have been deactivated even though the diodes exist (in park light mode or low beam mode). It’s so stupid and such a Mazda thing that’s extremely annoying. Just to make it obvious thar you didn’t pay for a top spec model.

Hope they light it up on the CX-70...and add some nice ambient lighting inside too.

The full length rear tail lights should really be standard on all models, don’t know why Mazda limited that too certain trims.

Mazda using different taillights for different trims is not a new phenomena. Examples that come to mind are the M-B W205 C sedan, Lexus AL20 RX, or Honda CV1-3 Accord. However, I hope that Mazda decides to add a "lighting package" so buyers aren't forced to spend thousands more on a trim just for lights. Outside of that, they have done a remarkable job with this model.

Possible but not likely but that sure would be nice. Buy anyway, I wish they were lit for all models. Come on.

Hate that the turbo s premium plus is not offered with a bench seat, would get that one in a beat if it had at least 7 seats.

For those that have the lower trims models where the whole taillights don’t light up, you can buy the illuminated taillights from Mazda and replace them manually. They are plug and play. I’ll be doing that next weekend.

That’s very stupid for mazda to do that. I’m a CX-90 Turbo Premium owner and I really don’t like the taillights. But I didn’t notice that the headlights L shape light doesn’t light up until now. WTF! Lol
@eleanormassaro5195
@eleanormassaro5195 10 месяцев назад
It’s kind of the same with the CX 50. The turbo models get the extra taillight like that versus the non-turbo models.

Exactly, maybe there is a way to just run a cable and conntect power to the trunk lifgate connector assembly . It is super dumb on Mazds behalf to do that , these cars with better looking lights are live marketing of the car for potential customers to judge its look and maybe buy it one da y!

Remember the Chevrolet cars, Belair, Impala and Caprice were all the same car but you could tell them apart by their lights. Car manufacturers have used lights, grills and wheels for decades to differentiate the trim level on the exterior of a car.

Mazda needs to start making the exterior lighting, complete instead of just having half of them on the lower trims. Mazda, exterior lighting, other than the headlights, are very poor to see at night night.

If you’ve been a Mazda owner, you’d know that Mazda waits an extremely long time before any peaks of their next MY vehicles are shown. In some cases, it’s literally December of the previous year.

SO GLAD that MAZDA STILL DOES THIS!!!! why would anyone who pays for premium prices on the same car for different trims want the BASE model to share the same EXACT things with a model that is fully loaded!!!!

Lights are safety thing, and in 2024 there is no excuse for lights to be cheapened on. There is countless other features that make the top trim better and lights simply should not be cheapened.

Stupidity in marketing. A stupid move like this makes a person refrain from buying. You lose a buyer because of a simple advantage like this!

I got the PHEV Premium Plus and that’s the “top spec” hybrid model CX-90, and yet for an ELECTRIC CAR, I don’t get the full taillights or the turn-guidance LED portion of the HLs. Soooo lame. Thankfully it’s a lease, and I’ll be walking away from this bull crap “Premium Plus” trim for something more complete.
@JSS
