@@TreadShredders most definitely, this is the kit I plan on running and this definitely helped with some future head scratching. Now one thing I can’t figure out, is that turbo water cooled as well? Couldn’t see any coolant lines
I did a CX-RACING kit on my 94 na8 and didn't know what I was doing lol just going off the website photos and my brain 😅 still didn't use some of the parts that came with it, like the intercooler mounting bracket that looks a T. Good video 👍🏿🤝🏿
Same here. They don't give you instructions, just a bunch of pictures of a hacked up miata. Hopefully this helps someone out in the future so they aren't scratching their heads like we were.
This is a super in depth video, thanks for taking the time to make it. I have been looking at this kit for a while now and was wondering what is actually involved in installing it since obviously it requires modifications. Another video I have seen mentions that they had to weld the downpipe to the turbo because nothing was included to connect it, was that the case with your kit? I can deal with cutting and drilling but would like to avoid welding.
Thanks! Check the other comments for what I did miss that someone mentioned. I had to shave the bay down to fit the downpipe, but it's a vband connection. I did have a weld on the downpipe blowout some how. I got it fixed myself with my own welder. Currently have about 2k miles on the kit with about 500 miles on it just being drift events and beating on it. So far, so good. I'm really happy with it.
@@TreadShredders I wish I was close enough to be involved...well actually it might be expensive. I’m in New Bern NC. I just recognized the drive. I picked up a fairly minty 1990 1.6, though yours is sweet and I’d definitely trade my white on black for your black on tan. Currently trying not to order the $5k in parts I have in my cart🤣 My 16 and 17 year old children aren’t helping my dilemma and neither is RU-vid😎
Check out "CashedOutCars" video for an in depth video on how to clock. Mine came out of the box perfect 🤷♂️ I bolted it on and everything was where I wanted it. Didn't need to clock it.
To be honest, I don't know. I used a step bit from harbor freight and got it the exact same size and just tightened it in with some pliers. 4k miles later, no issues still. Hope this helps!
Did you have issues with the bottom of the exhaust manifold rubbing on the steering shaft? My kit rubs slightly when I turn the wheel and is slowly eating away at the manifold material
Yes, not the manifold tho, the downpipe was hitting the steering shaft. I just rotated it slightly out of the way. No it's barely off the subframe and the engine. The downpipe is ass honestly. Needs redesigned.
Gotcha. I noticed I didn’t have to grind any material away for the downpipe to fit on mine. I might have put the manifold on slightly off and it’s causing those issues
@@AlkovickAirsoft No? You're the first person I've heard that didn't have to. I had to take a good 1 inch of material out for mine to fit. I beat the downpipe where it hit the steering shaft until it fit and didn't hit.
Sorry for the late reply. The manifold has cracked twice, downpipe exploded in like 2k miles right at a weld, and turbo wastegate door exited the chat. But to be fair, im always banging limiter while drifting, 2stepping at events with a hood dump, among other stupid stuff. So i push it to the limits, literally. Plus ive been running 20psi through it for the last few months. Still running strong 💪 Going to the dyno today to get someone to properly tune it and see what the new forged motor is going to make.
@@TreadShredders I ended up going with kraken’s full 2554r top mount kit, still bolting together but thanks for the feedback! Feel better about my purchase haha
Vacuum for the ECU is routed thru the grommet hole on the left side of the engine bay firewall. There's a plug there. I removed it, fished a thick wire down behind the glove box area, and taped onto it and pulled. Took like 30 minutes just to get that line thru. A real pain. The boost, AFR, and IAT wires are routed thru the hole for the cruise control. If you don't have cruise control, there's a plug there.
Thank you for the quick response. I’m wondering what size bolts i need to screw the lines into the turbo. You mentioned the kit did not come with the hardware needed to do this and I came across the same problem and I don’t know how to figure out what size the holes are.
@@bradleyratliff6881 Gotcha. Yeah, it's been a while since I installed this. I remember having to match the bolts at lowes to get this in. I do not recall the exact bolt size. I apologize
I already put everything in besides those fittings. I emailed cx racing to see but i doubt they will respond. looks like i’m taking everything off again 😬
@@TreadShredders I’m building my first Drift car based on mx5 as well . I have no clue how it handles without sway bar but may be I will give it a go somewhere without other cars
@@chiccoka Definitely give it a go. Some people make up for no sway bar by changing up their coilover rebound and/or spring rate. Hope this helps! Good luck out there
