I consider myself to be pretty good at 2D platformers I’ve played a lot of them, probably way more than most people. But this game might whoop my ass, and I’m probably going to rage. But isn’t that part of the fun with these throwback titles?
Just now finished it 100%. Great game! Going for the platinum now, just need to beat it in under 3 hours and not collect any HP or SP upgrades. Progenitor is going to be ridiculous with staring HP and SP!
I’ve been waiting for this game since it was first announced, so I’m downloading this game as soon as I’m getting home from work tomorrow. Hopefully it can fill my old-school void I’ve been feeling since Valfaris......
Now Valfaris is a game that I can get behind! Haven't been to impressed with this one myself, but not completely finished with the game yet, and I know people have different preferences. Not a terrible game really, just not a great one either, and more frustrating than fun to me. Thought The Messenger was great by contrast, so take that as you will. Also really disliked Contra as well personally, which is adored by many, so take that into consideration too if taking my suggestion (a grain of salt is likely needed). Reason I mention Contra is because this game also takes heavy inspiration from that game as well (along with Ninja Gaiden, of course). My current alternate suggestion for those that want something kind of similar (I use the phrase loosely) and have already played The Messenger, is to check out Olija, due to come out Jan 28th if on schedule still! Art style is kinda rough on that one too IMO, but definitely worth considering if you're OK with pixel art reminiscent of the first 2D Prince of Persia, Flashback or Out of This World games. Now that one looks a real diamond in the rough!
I’ll definitely be picking up Cyber Shadow tomorrow on the Nintendo Switch. I’ve been looking forward to Cyber Shadow since it was announced in 2019 , and I love 2D action platfomers so this was always going to be a purchase for me. But I appreciate the truly helpful review.
Great review Ole Gamer Joe! Cyber Shadow looks like a nostalgia-overload and I can't wait to check it out tomorrow! And yes, for a "slow January" you guys have been putting in the work lately! Keep em' coming!
@@IDreamofIndie Agreed. I feel that 2021 is going to be one of the best years ever for gaming. Just seen a brand new Ghosts n' Goblins game for pre-order on Switch, I kid you not. And it looks real good.
Great game as expected.Nicely done review. Goes to show that 2D and pixels have a place in gaming even when powerhouse consoles are out.Plus, ninjas are cool.
Love the reference DrummerDucky! Yes, for all the talk of it being a Ninja Gaiden style game I was surprised at how it blended so many different NES games into one package.
2D Action platformer...I am terrible at these, and as much love as I have for retro pixel style graphics, these aren't really sparking any love for me. Think I'll pass on this one.
Gotta disagree on this one. While it may pay faithful homage to an NES classic, this game still sucks ass in my humble opinion - and I love old school style pixel art games! That being said, I can also get behind some difficult games (like Dark Souls, Nioh, Sekiro and more) I do not at all look fondly on games like Ghosts n Goblins or Battletoads. This game is in that category for me personally. Also, as much as I like pixel art, this just looks kinda ugly to me, IMO (faithfully recreated once again tho, to be fair, lol!) I would recommend to those considering to pass on this one and go and grab The Messenger by Sabotage Games instead if you haven't played that one yet. Highly superior in art design and gameplay mechanics. If you have already, and you loved it, maybe still try this one for yourself since it's only 15 bucks and decide for yourself! Edit: forgot is was only $15 if purchased on pre-sale, asking $20 normally. Thinking on it again, now I probably have to go back to saying pass on this one, lol! May-be go and pick up the upcoming Olija instead (due out on Jan 28th) if you want an awesome but somewhat rough looking game to try! (looks a bit like Another World, also known as Out of This World, by Interplay Interactive to me!) Just my opinion and I could be wrong tho! Cheers!
