Sasha Yakovleva was Maine's crew's netrunner before Kiwi and Lucy. She worked alongside Dorio and Rebecca, the video explains her last mission where she only needed to get access to one of the megacorporation's mainframe but she stuck around to dig deeper into the medicine that she supplied her own mother when she was just a child. It's one of the probably thousands of devastating stories that exist in this modern dystopia but there's something extra to this one, the corpo that she exposed (Biotecnica) is still one of the largest ones in Cyberpunk 2077 (the game which is set after the Edgerunners story which is 2076) so her sacrifice didn't have the impact she expected it to have. Well, it's Night City after it's all said and done...

She died with a smile on her face and at least believing she had accomplished her goal and gotten justice for her mother. More fortunate than most in Night City, where death is concerned.

I don’t think she was out to destroy them but rather to hurt them. She would have known that it would be impossible for a single netrunner to bring them down so she set out to tank their stocks and hurt them financially. Even though Biotechnica is still a huge Megacorp they become far weaker than the other corporations.

Yes I was right I knew thats what was going on from watching the music video. So many people where saying things and I was just sure that was wrong but I didn't wanna shit on anyones interpretation that much. Yeah I was thinking that was her mom in the bed and Sasha was the little girl helping her mom take this medicine.

If you catch interviews with Mike Pondsmith, he talks about how the cyberpunk world he created isn't about big victories. There is no in-game "great man" mythos. Individuals do not take down corporations. And corporations survive the destruction of even their highest ranking leaders. Centers of power are systems. And cyberpunks achieve very personal victories out of escaping or living on the fringes of those systems. Sasha doesn't take down Biotecnica. True. Biotecnica is too big for one act to destroy. But I like to think that Sasha screwed over some decision-makers in the corp. Maybe even managed to crater the drug that killed her mother - causing a sudden decrease in demand, a loss of profit, flat-lining careers, and maybe even ultimately pulling the drug from the market thus saving lives. In a Cyberpunk world... in Night City... that's a hell of a thing to pull off.

Cyberpunk is one of the rare anime dub Wins. The cast is loaded.

i consider the English version to be the original and Japanese being the dub. After all the show is being made by CD Project Red (in Poland) and only the animation is being done by a Japanese studio.

Would definitely have watched more of Sasha's journey before the music video. Still get shivers down my spine when I watch/listen to this video.

"There are no happy endings in Night City." As said before her leak didn't have the effect that she had expected but we don't know a whole lot about the ripple it had. In the game there is an old, worn out graffiti in the northern part of downtown that resembles Sasha's icon. I suspect it had an effect, but was quickly covered up or cycled out of the news cycle. Also, when a runner goes rogue and does something noble, while the runner community may silently celebrate her, they can't be overt about it without drawing the attention of the corps. Turning against and exposing the corps dirty secrets is considered a big no-no and will land you and everyone you know in their line of fire. So that's probably why you wouldn't hear anything about Sasha and why no one talks about her. Biotechnica catches wind, they'll tie up loose ends.

People tell you to watch the English dub because it is excellent and i consider it being the original. Yes the animation is made by a Japanese studio but the whole show is made in Poland (sound/story/music and so on). Its the same like with Arcane (animated in France but the show is created in the USA). Also English fits more to the Cyberpunk world because its in the future version of USA.

the english dub is really good because the japanese dub miss alot of the slang and the feel of the world and Rebeccas VA is amazing

Yeah, it's not really a dub, it's the OG cast and has been dubbed in Japanese. Fantastic though, either way

This comes late but Sub vs Dub. I think both were good. But this anime is unusual in that the japanese is not the origin language of the story. The story was written in Poland mostly by CD Projekt Red the folks who created the game and the setting was created by Mike Pondsmith who's American. So while the screenplay and animation was done by studio trigger in Japan and the animation was done to japanese voice acting it was still an adaptation of a Polish story. The setting is also in an alternate future California. The 'Dub' really brings out that setting. It uses lingo that is true to the Cyberpunk roleplay setting. Preem, gonks, terms like that. Also the languages and accents. His mom having a Mexican accent and them being from Santo Domingo. The tiger claws speaking japanese in an otherwise English setting. The ripper doc with the Jamacian accent. All these are much more authentic to the actual setting. Also it was a small part but the job they did half way though for that fixer we only heard on the phone, Wakako. in the English dub they used the same voice actress that was actually used in the game. which is cool if you played the game because you run lot of jobs for her so it is a very familar voice. There is also Faraday's voice actor in English. A very distinctive and recognizable actor to say the least. So I would say that this anime is unique in that it is probably more authentic English than in Japanese.

The sub is the sub, if you like subs you'll like it. But. The Cyberpunk English version is quite simply phenomenal. Usually there are several voices that are just cringe-inducing awfulness and/or phoning it in for an English dub. I can't think of one in cyberpunk. In addition, it's an American IP set in an (ex) American city highlighting American problems and using future slang designed to work with English as it's primary source language. REALLY worth a watch even if you just do it yourself. I still can't believe this video made me get a little misty in like 4 minutes. wth

For one the voice actors are as good overall in the English Dub, second though English is the canonical native language of the setting and not all the slang can be translated in a meaningful way to get the full impact in Japanese.

Don't know if you watched any of the end credits of the series, but the bit of video that goes with this song is Lucy between the last fight and her trip to the moon so kind of hinted what was going to happen all along.

That's what I love about Cyberpunk universe. It's not quite the future, Cyberpunk is closer to our reality and our times than it might seem, just amped up to 11. Think of the opioid epidemic, benzo abuse. My own father died of heart failure that later was related to Humira, a drug prescribed for arthritis. Did us, the family, see any justice? Of course not, the motion was dismissed on the basis of a "non-conclusive study" at the time. Also Sasha's sister/mother(?) was a veteran, look what's happening to veterans in the US? Same shit, hooked up on opioids, neurodegenerative antidepressants, produced by pharmaceutical corporations that always weasle out. This hits too close to home. The way "the west" is right now, Cyberpunk 2077 reality is inevitable.

So, generally, the English dubs are inferior to the Japanese Sub. However, in this case, they did a perfect job of capturing the different cultures you find in Night City, and used VAs that also did an exquisite job in bringing the characters to life. If you do decide to watch English Dub, still use subtitles, as some people (like the Ripperdoc) have strong accents that demonstrate where they are from.

English Dub is too good to miss. I watch 99% of anime in Japanese, but the English version of Cyberpunk is simply excellent. How Dani mentioned Jap version does miss a lot of slang, but there is more than that. The voice actors are good... Like really good. Anime dubs are often bleak and emotionless, but not in cyberpunk. Voice actors really put a lot of heart into their roles. Additionally, the story for cyberpunk was written by CDPR, and I feel that polish culture has more common with Western culture than Japanese, so in my opinion, the Western language fits the story and the Cyberpunk word better.

Sasha is 100% the only character that tried to do actual good... no hating on the rest of Edge Runners but none of them tried to make any difference but to their own lives and that is why Sasha is best girl. She tried to get the word out about the drugs that were killing people so others could have the same anger and allow people that cathartic rage but also give them closure to a traumatic experience they may have never been able to let go of.

Lucy went on a one-man rampage trying to save David from being discovered by Arasaka. David's whole objective for earning the eddies from being an edgerunner was to save the scratch to fulfill Lucy's dream of going to the moon and then gave what was left of his life to ensure she could live. They certainly attempted to make a difference in the scope that was available to them.
