This is part 2 of my two-part series covering the events, sights, sounds and production line tour of the Cybertruck production line at Giga Texas. This all happened as part of the Cybertruck Delivery Event held on 30 November 2023 and where the first customer deliveries took place.
In part 1 I covered the event from arrival to the main entry and the keynote address, along with the first deliveries and the displays of Cybertrucks and accessories outside of the main entrance. I also covered the Cybertruck after party hosted by the Austin Tesla Club at the Lustre Pearl East restaurant and event center.
In this part 2, I provide you with a detailed narrated walk through of the ground floor level of General Assembly #2 where the Cybertruck is being produced. In addition to the interior line video footage, I discuss the Giga Texas Grid Coordinate system, and provide several historical images and videos during the early construction of the factory to help out into context the areas that were viewable during the Cybertruck Delivery Event for the public.
I also provide additional information about the various production line signs and markings to help identify what portions of the assembly process are visible at any given time, and also provide drone views into the 2nd and 3rd floors of the factory that are part of the vertical manufacturing processes Tesla uses at Giga Texas.
I hope you enjoy this video and the format with the information I present and that you find it helpful and informative.

Thanks … you have no idea how much I would love to be turned loose to see all of the insides of Giga Texas … I know generally where everything is and what was brought inside, but I would love to see how everything looks now. My short wish list of things to see are Stamping (including the subterranean isolation foundations), Casting, Paint shop (all floors), and the entire 3rd floor/mezzanines, the cathode plant and Die shop! I know I’ll probably never get to see these areas, but I can dream! 🤗

Thanks Joe 5:01. Final 1 and 2 St. Looking west. Southwest diagonal wall in the background. 6:18. Production line. The removed floor sections that were piled up at the W-WOW, came from the construction of these long production line floor trenches. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iQIRZIMctgo.html 6:39. Left. Cybertrucks are arranged perpendicular to the line direction. Right. Cybertrucks are arranged in the same direction as the line. Presumably this line moves south to north. 7:24. F73. Label on the left fender. Very specific instruction. ‘FENDER RH CIW, OK TO TAKE TO GA, DO NOT REMOVE THE LABEL’. 12:34. Wheel installation station. Right line definitely moves south to north. 14:20. Vehicle elevator. Going up a floor, or is it swapping to the left side to head south? 14:41. Cybertrucks without wheels. Can’t make sense of this. Wheels on, wheels off. Red counterweights for the elevator were seen on the apron in a previous video. 15:40. Change of direction turntable for the scissor platforms. 17:32. Rear casting uppers, the buttress and tailgate posts. Circular recesses where the backing panel for the Stainless Panel is bolted through. 17:39. Rear casting assembly. Not obvious how the cast components are joined together. Speculating adhesive and rivets. 18:28. Rear casting. Sheetmetal components are riveted. 19:45. Note the lack of a steering column. 25:27. Cybertruck with rear quarter panels. 26:55. Cybertruck without rear quarter panels. 28:50. Stainless steel attachment method. Been waiting a long time to confirm this method of construction. Rear quarter panels attached the same way. The stainless steel panel is adhered to a backing panel, the backing panel is bolted to the rear casting assembly. Rear quarter panels with the backing panel visible stacked here, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1tpcehOWB0c.html 30:47. Cybertruck with front fenders being attached. Has no rear fenders. Clearly these vehicles are not necessarily arranged in the normal assembly sequence. The line wasn’t just stopped mid production, but has been set up for a clearer (less cluttered) display. 31:33. Rear quarter panel installation. No front fenders. 33:40. Rear motor drivetrain assembly. Tie-rods for the rear wheel steering. Must be the steering drive motor/s in-between. 34:40. Overhead gantry track. Motors that drive the carriers are visible. Cybertruck. As the video progresses note the variations in the colour and extent of the primer paint. 35:18. Front drivetrain assembly. Nearly complete. Drivetrain assembly line starts at the north around 38:30.

How did DeLorean (DMC) attach their stainless outer sheet steel?
@DessieDoolan
@DessieDoolan 9 месяцев назад
@@uploadJ That's a good point. I don't know, but I think that was more of a conventional unibody. The big deal with the Cybertruck skin is the un-workability of the stainless steel meaning a novel approach was required to attach the skins.
@DavidJohnson-tv2nn
@DavidJohnson-tv2nn 9 месяцев назад
@@DessieDoolan Also un-repairability of the stainless steel panels. Un-workability = un-repairability. And yes, those panels will get dented if they get hit hard enough.
@JoeTegtmeyer
@JoeTegtmeyer 9 месяцев назад
@@DessieDoolan I was thinking about this during the tour and it occurred to me body dame repairs might just require a bonded pane replacement. Unbolt the bad and bolt in the new panel. Might actually make repairs faster and cheaper as no “body work”, filler or paint would be required. Having done a lot of body work on Porsches, I could see a lot of advantages with this approach that others who lack that experience might not understand.
@Bill_N_ATX
@Bill_N_ATX 9 месяцев назад
@@JoeTegtmeyer Joe, it would be a trade off of labor versus parts. With that said, a lot of manufacturers are using aluminum body panels to save weight. Those are equally non reparable but much more fragile than the stainless steel. It remains to be seen which will cost more, the stainless panels or the aluminum ones. As for the denting of the stainless panels, I saw the video where Randy Pobst take a sledge hammer to a door with no damage done. So it will take more than a parking lot ding to damage one.

SMC-carbon fiber is usually structural. In this situation it does not need to be as much. The ribbing of the bed suggests a structural need to create some arches in the material for more rigidity. Or maybe less friction from the load to the bed. SMC is precision molding using up to a 5000 lb. press that is very hot but pushes out material via weep holes rather than injection. large molds can take up to 8 minutes. It is then put into a sealed room that precision routers the shape and any cut out needs. The trim is sucked to a bagging system to be recycled with another batch of material. All of it can be recycled up to 5 times into new parts or bodies. They also do it with fiberglass. That's not so structural but can make exterior body parts! It may be a big reason for the low weight. Especially compared to the RWD at 7500 lbs. which I am betting will not get it. Sandy M has said it is as hard as a rock and the process creates a first time, every time fit when putting structures of it together via adhesives. It also is very stable to temperatures compared to metal. I am fairly certain this could be used to replace a unibody.

60 per hour is insane if true!! That's 480 a day assuming 8 hour shift.

It is quite a good clip and might still be a little aspirational, but they need to get to about double this when fully ramped to meet production targets

Please explain the production rate you and Sandy suggested of 60 units per hour? That would be 500,000 per year. I would have expexted the current production rate would be 3-6 per hour. Is there only 1 shift running instead of three?

What Sandy actually said was that he assumed that the individual stations on the line had an interval of one minute, meaning the station has one minute to receive the parts, do the assembly, and send them on to be ready for the next parts coming from the previous station. This one minute interval obviously would mean a rate of 60 per hour, but it is a theoretical number and seems to be the long term production rate goal. Certainly not all stations are capable of operating at this rate yet.
