Impossible to choose between them - we're just lucky to have such a rivalry as cycling turns a generational page. Add Ganna, Pogacar, Roglic, perhaps Geoghegan Hart and Pidcock, and racing is going to be amazing for years to come.
yeah Pidcock is definitely an exceptional rider...He is also going to Tokyo going for gold on mtb...i hope it will be an epic race between Schurter, MvdP and Pidcock
People that live in warm countries don't realise how lucky they are. Just to ride your bike and not be disappointed by the weather, imagine summer all year round. sounds like heaven. This is why in the UK we have to make the most of the good days we have. Only 2 & half months to go and counting.
@@knirri yeah, and in my country the problem is that I go out and I have to deal with dogs...so there you have. Seems like some locations/countries all have their individual problems...
Great video, thanks for putting it together, would love some more please! Yes we really are entering another golden age of cycling. When you look at all the riders that are coming up through now and most are 25 / 26 and/or younger. We hopefully will be well entertained for the next few years. Lets hope that as the Covid restrictions fade away that even more riders are coming up through the ranks either directly on the road or through CX. It is certainly going to make some great viewing!!! Thanks again.
Evenepoel has beaten Ganna three times out of three. And Evenepoel is three years younger than Ganna. There is no question of a doubt that Evenepoel is (much) better.
Both drivers have pushed each other to maximum performance over the years. I think they both know that and that's why they respect each other. "If you want to know what a victory is worth: look at who came second." (Federico Bahamontes)
It's completely untrue they're the first to combine high level CX and road racing. MVDP's dad Adri used to race on a world class level both CX and road, Roger De Vlaeminck did the same, his brother Eric won a stage in the Tour de France...
@@fighter2445 what do you mean lol. They're both crazy good, I just like Van Aert more and that's not because I don't like MVDP because I do, it's because WVA won the double Ventoux, a TT and Champs-Élysées sprint at the same Tour de France 2021 which is for me completely incomprehensible feat. I'd be able to understand if he got the TT and sprint victory, but winning the mountain stage too with all the muscle mass required for the other two disciplines is just bonkers.
@@kennymilne2176 He hasn't won MSR or GW and only one Tour stage. You know nothing about cycling. Go cheer for your drug cheat who always lies about his injuries.
I don't know, Wout just won on the Mont Ventoux, a time trial and the Champs Elysees all in the same Tour. That hasn't been done since Bernard Hinault.
Watching this knowing Van Aert would win double Mont Ventoux stage, a TT and Champs-Elysées stages at the same Tour de France just few months after this video was made...
great vid. gives me goosebumps - especially the MvdP win at the amstel gold. but while i think the two of them are way ahead of their generation and competing + winning from the veterans in their prime, there is in fact an even younger up-and-coming generation that may just be just as incredible if not even better: tadej, bernal and evenepoel! also, i don't think MvdP is going to really do much more than go for a stage win, may be two, at the TdF and has already said that he will likely leave the TdF prematurely to participate in the olympics this year. in fact, i think he has even said that if he thinks participating in the TdF compromises his chances at the olympics in anyway, he won't participate at all!
Well VDP is worldclass in three disciplines. He is also a strong worldclass contender in mountainbiking. Which Van Aert would probably do well. I bet Van Aert is the better one when it comes to Tour, Giro or Vuelta. Van der Poel is the better cyclocross rider, has won more important one day races (quite a gap there I think). He already has one the Gold Race, Vlaanderen and of course StradeBianche...and has of course been succesfull in mountainbiking. So I would say that VDP is probably the one that wins a bit more (cyclocross and oneday races) and also seems to be a bit more allround with mountainbiking at worldclass level. But Van Aert counters with being an excellent allround Tour the France. So yes it is a fantastic rivalry and even though I am Dutch I am happy with either one being a winner at any given day.
Van Aert has won the following important one day races: Strade Bianche, Milan-San Remo, Gent-Wevelgem & Amstel Gold Race Van der Poel has won the following important one day races: Dwars door Vlaanderen, Amstel Gold Race, Ronde van Vlaanderen & Strade Bianche They're very close really, but I would give the edge to Van Aert right now since Dwars door Vlaanderen is the least prestigious race from the ones mentioned above.
@@xv587 They have similar but also different qualities on the road. They are both excellent sprinters, but I think WvA is a better climber on longer climbs than MvdP, and he is also better in the TT discipline. MvdP likes the shorter, punchier climbs, and he can deliver a stinging sprint at the end of a long race. He is also able to produce high watts over a long period.
Best transfer from off-road to road....nope. Cadel Evans has TdF and WC wins. CE is a top 10 Olympian Road and MTB. Peter Sagan top jr off roader then top of the road. Peter has a WC win road and jr mtb and jr medal cx. Now to the women...... well there are so many that have crushed it in multiple disciples. Pauline Ferrand-Prevot had road, mtb and cx WC at the same time.
Sagan was never an off-road rider with the pros, so he doesn't count. Also the level at women's cycling is far lower than the men's, so you can't compare really. Both Van Aert and VDP will surpass Evans eventually.
