One of the greatest sports documentaries ever made, certainly the best I've seen so far.

"the surface is absolutely shit" says Steve Joughin in his best Manx accent. Such a shame for Steve to miss out through that accident. Thanks, from the Isle of Man, for sharing.

I find it amazing how little the Canadian team jersey has changed since the 70s. It's basically the same!

It's so sad what happened to the Velodrome in Montreal. I only got a chance to see it once when I was a kid, although I've been there multiple times after they turned it into the Biodome. I can't believe they would destroy such a beautiful track. It was one of the jewels of the Olympics, and the track was really steep. The Biodome is nice too, especially the rainforest part of it. I just don't know why they chose to destroy something to make something else. They could have just built something in the area of the Velodrome. I mean, they now have an outdoor soccer stadium, a movie theatre and a planetarium nearby, so there was room near Olympic stadium to build something.

I agree, but there are now velodromes operating in Bromont and in Mt Tremblant.

I rode the Montreal velodrome in 1982 and it wasn't in great shape with areas of loose boards. A big issue with the velodrome was the highly flammable translucent roof. It was highly flammable and violated fire safety codes. The solution was to have manned water canons, visible in this video. After the games, the water canons were basically ignored, thereby violating the original compromise. By the way, I crashed in a race and had numerous wood shards in my leg and eventually went to emergency to get them removed. The doctor asked me how that happened and I said "riding my bicycle." He was surprised as the racing season was in Winter and it was about -20C outside. He asked me if I was riding indoors and I simply replied: "yes," and he did not ask for any further explanation...

14:35 I feel bad for him as he had to push so hard the blue bicycle. It took us 40 years to learn that red bicycles are the fastest.
