Thanks for the tour , i spied the lord roberts pub which i remember, i was born in Carrington , but havent been back to nottinghamsince leaving schiil in 1974 , i am retired in the Philippines now !
Took a nice ride out down Clifton side of the Trent. All the way through to Barton in fabis, through thrumpton and over to Gotham and back. Really a nice ride
I'm amazed there's no ASL/'bike box' at the Haydn Road/Mansfield Road lights and the Victoria Centre lights, that looks lethal, as does the tiny bike lane at the Palais! I'd say that Mansfield Road definitely needs a fully protected cycle lane as does London Road to the south which would make commuting much safer. I now live in Leicester and our local council is making some effort on the main routes in and out of the city so I'd have thought our much larger (& wealthier?) neighbour's council could do better than it has so far. On a lighter note I must say that Hockley has come up in the world since the days when I spent most weekends in Nottingham back in the mid to late 1970's. Cheers 👍🏼
Thanks for you comments Mick. There is a campaign we’re calling NSAT , the north south Active Travelway, to put a protected cycling superhighway right through Nottingham city from north to south. Much needed. City council,is broke but has been successful in getting Active travel Fund money and Transforming cities funding. Leicester have a pro cycling mayor/ leader I believe! I am Chair of Pedals, the Nottm cycling campaign, so have a keen interest in improving Nottingham ! Best wishes👍
Yep, the UK is so far behind the ret of Europe. The recent DfT LTN 1/20 design standards are much better but the local authorities need to be held accountable by Active Travel England to ensure these guidelines are met.
@@markbeaven972 I've read part of that document, and thought it was great - especially since it advised road designers actually trying to cycle the routes to see what it's like.
