I'm from Nottinghamshire but I moved away 27 years ago. I visit Nottingham about once a year. I like the city and the redevelopment of the Broadmarsh area has much potential. The passenger train services reinstalled in recent years to Mansfield is great. Nottingham City centre seems quieter than I remember it but maybe that is largely due to covid as well as the impact on retail from online shopping? Still the city centre looks well compared to many other places.

I have lived here since 2006, fell in love with the City which I consider a hidden gem. Had my both kids here, bought my house here. For a Portuguese used to sunny pastures it wasn't easy at all but the city made it easy. Rediscovered biking at about 2019 after years of having my wife forbid me to ride because all my bikes got snatched off me by thieves. Even a Mongoose :/ Now at age 43, I am back on the saddle as a cross-country biker, a wild one :D but my true passion has always been downhill. I couldn't care less about my bones, I love it. But it's so hard to find nice spots for proper downhill in the Midlands with such a plain geography. Occasionally I drive to Sherwood Pines to have some proper fun, but, I identified a few (though short) tracks that can be good for those addicted like me. Holme PierrePont, where by the end of the artificial lake you have a 3 minute track that is a good curvy up-and-down track, and a few nature spots towards Clifton and towards the Attenborough Reserve Centre. Do you know any other good spot around here?

Happy to hear that everything worked out for you my friend! I've never experienced bike theft in Nottingham but I know it happens quite a bit, people are using very weak locks that can be cut easily. I would recommend Cannock Chase, I know people who go there because of the MTB trails. I'm more of a city/countryside cyclist. So in Nottingham, I would go along the canal - so I would start in Attenborough and then head all the way to Nottingham. I also like cycling to Derby via the National Cycle bike route. That rush you get from cycling downhill I get from riding in cities!

You probably know this already but there are some sick videos of a very famous dude skidding through the streets of New York. Seriously, I do not know how he does it, but he reaches the impossible. I've seen him full speed in between very busy lanes with buses speeding on both sides of him :D:D I've done the canals a lot here in Nottingham, even going past Attenborough and then towards Derby through the canal. It's fun but lacks the excitement of nearly crashing face down on a bumpy tree root :D:D

@@Karelja Terry Barentsen? He has some pretty insane videos. It's pretty reckless but you can't deny it's great content. Yes it's not super exciting on them routes but it's nice on a summers day!

nottingham is my nearest city, and it is the best city for sure. there are many disused railway line routes that can still be ridden on.

You could be right there pal, however is it boring and soulless? Just because a city might have ''everything'' it may be actually very dull easily, I realised this when I moved from London to Liverpool and lived there for 5 years, yes Liverpool may have lots of restaurants, bars, night clubs, shopping centre etc but it was so boring after around 6 months! I hope Nottingham isn't like that!

I moved from London to Liverpool to and totally agree with you. Crime rate and low level wannabe gangsters with terrorist masks everywhere. Liverpool is so far the most criminal place where I ever lived before. And I was living in Bradford and London before 😅
