Diet is the majority of all muscle building, you just can't ignore it. I had great success with the Agoge Diet plan. Would recommend it to anyone!

Cycling is better for long distances and regular commuting, but walking is nice for relaxation and shorter distances. Going to the grocery store by foot with earphones on is much more pleasing than reducing the time outside with no music or podcast on for safety reasons. Plus, if the cycler carries its locker in its backpack, it reduces the amount of products that can fit in and adds weight.

That was more informative than I was expecting! I was walking to the gym and back to burn fat but I don't have 1 hour to spare. Last thing I want to do is lose muscle so I was going to slow cycle. Should only tale me 10 minutes either way as it's pretty flat! Great video!

i cycle everywhere, almost all my life, but am trying to do more walking recently, as there are more balancing muscles that need to be kept strong. And also some impact is important to keep bones strong too. I should run a bit more or jog for more impact, but not too much. i hear trampoline bouncing and impact is good for lymphatic drainage cycling does not do this too well. Also i love to go swimming, its unfortunate that there is so much chlorine in the pools. and the rivers and canals are polluted. But swimming is a full body work out, it makes me feel awesome afterward. Peace.

I love cycling. I enjoy nature, I like when I get far. I also like walking, but I like it when someone keeps me company. My legs only hurt when I do my sitting profession. He wants to balance everything!

Based on the actual personal data. Cycling and walking uses slightly different muscles and even though hour of cycling burns more calories than hour of walking, but not by much especially if you speed walk 3-4mph and partially do small runs in between. You can burn 600-650 calories per hour of waking, again depending on your intensity, speed and weight, etc…

I've seen some cardiologists saying that it's actually bad to walk fast though. They say either run or walk, but walking fast (as you're in a hurry) puts a lot of stress on the heart, and over time it begins damaging it. If you're used to driving shift cars: it's like accelerating over 7000 rpm and never shifting up, the motor will quickly melt. They say the same happens to your heart

You mention good points that most people don't talk about. Personally for me biking is not great because my bum hurts after sitting on the seat for a while, it also gets sweaty and uncomfortable. My knees can ache too from it and I can't do it everyday because of muscle soreness. Walking uses more muscles than just your legs so the load is balanced out, overall walking feels better to do for me, I will only bike when I need to be indoors.

I found this video because I was curious what others think. I used to cycle frequently to work but short distance. Less than 2.5miles. So 5miles in one day twice a week, On a normal bike. My location changed and I stopped cycling. Also the fun of cycling dropped a lot so I increased my time at the gym. So after nearly 2 years of lockdown here and there I figured I'd like to get an electric bike to bring in some fun factor into the mix. It's a small bike(£470). A foldable, small wheels max speed 15 miles per hour without cycling effort involved. So it can get up to 20mph with effort. What I want to add to the comments is the fun factor of an electric bike is huge. Boring routes become more interesting and pleasurable especially if they are quiet roads. On the busier roads when stopping you feel more in control because you can get up to speed quicker. With more fun involved you tend to get out around 5 times more than before. Or in my case, start cycling up again! Effort can be varied greatly. As a small bike it's easy to ride without power. So one can use the power when wanted. For example, strong windy day just gets you home quicker. A quick trip to the shops is way more fun on a electric Bike versus walking or driving. When tired one can up the electric power and take a break for a bit. I feel overall its kept my legs strong and I've retained my muscle nicely. It(cycling) strengthens your lower back muscles, forearms, Triceps and forearms if you are leaning with arms straight, body angled but not hunched. Interesting I walked for 1 hr and burned 500 calories but when I cycled for 30 mins I could burn approx 150 calories. So does that mean walking burns more ?

Basically ride your bike for 30 to 45 minutes then go for a 30 minute walk. Best of both worlds.

I walk cycling, like people carb cycling!🤣🤓 I walk 1 hour an a half every day in the after noon, 5 to 6 hours after my meal, and directly after my body training, then I comeback home, take a shower and do my yoga. I was exercising on fasted in the morning, but I found that my energy much better after my meal, so I start my workouts 5 hours after my meal, this way I am sleeping much better. But with the yoga, I am sleeping less time. I want to do couple of fruit fast days, but it's cold right now.

@@AlbertKingboss, haha no no, not 6 hours walk, just 1 and half hour, I walk after 5 to 6 of my meal, that means I eat and wait 5 to 6 hours before I train and go for a walk. I know a man in my birthplace who sell lottery tickets, he walks 8 hours every day! He is the most healthy and happy man I ever met, I was a child when I met him, and after 20 years, he still look the same! Unbelievable! I don't mind to walk that much if I can make a living while walking! 😉

2:38 I cycle 90 minutes everyday at a speed of approx 50 km/h. Which means I cycle around 10.5 hours a week. I didn't knew that was a lot.

Nice video! I'd also add that cycling in cities is extremely dangerous, so walking beats cycling there. I also think cycling can inflict some damage on the spine if done improperly, right? I love cycling tho

Calorie deficit is the key to avoid miscle loss and there is no scientific fact that said that cycling burns your muscle more than walking

The only concern would be prolonged zone 2 (5+ hours weekly) which is easier to get to when cycling.

have you tried to raise the saddle? if your saddle is even slightly too low the knees can hurt very bad. it seems odd but when the saddle is high enough you can hardly get on the bike, you have to tilt/lean the bike over to get on. When your pedal is at the lowest part of the stroke your leg should almost be straight with a slight bend in the knee. You can get more power down like this too. Look at a few results on google images "saddle height" peace.

Also saddle position needs to be back far enough too. otherwise your knee will be too far forward relative to the pedals., and cause great pain. google "Bike Radar how-to-get-your-bike-saddle-height-right". I am sure if you can walk with your knee, cycling should be easier, especially on the flat. Maybe not uphill in the wrong gear, your knees will hurt bad., You have to spin, i think almost at 90 rpm revolutions per minute. if you do not have a low enough gear to do this you can push the bike up hill. Even professions do this at times if the gears are not low enough.

It depends on the pace and on how fat adapted you are. But you're right, that's generally too much if muscles are your priority.

@@miriamart3130 When you go over a certain intensity (zone 2 for most people), your muscles start relying more on glucose than fat. When you deplete your muscles of glucose, they'll need to create it from amino acids so your muscle mass will break down and be utilized as energy.

It's very nuanced and depends on the zone of cardio you cycle in. Any prolonged cardio is catabolic.
