Cyclops is such a cool freaking character. They need to do him justice in live action someday, I’m still pissed how dirty they did James Mardsen in the normal franchise
Cyclops absolutely has that potential in 616. The reason he doesn't is because his powers don't work as intended. Brain damage from his fall out of the plane his parents were in damaged his ability to control his optic blasts.
Cyclops should be treated as "the batman of the x-men"... this guy may not have the strongest powers, but dang it he uses everything in his arsenal to peak performance and is smart and trained enough to outthink almost any X-men in combat.
I don't like him, until he's able to control his powers without the visor. It feels like he's not training enough and is just satisfied with the status quo
I mean, that IS his power. It was the result of an alien attack on his family as a boy/baby i dont remember, that damaged him in such a way that it only came out his eyes and he couldnt shut it off.
That's actually true as seen in Civil War tie-in X-Men #4. The portal can actually extend to the total surface of his body. At their full expansion, Cyclops would be like the human torch, a crimson star that spew concussive blast at 360° on a few kilometers radius. The standard aperture of the portal is equal to his total field of vision and can theoretically be maintained indefinitely, modulating it and increasing the energy is what's harder and take a mental load, closing them for more than an hour is what's impossible and that's why he need ruby-quartz's lined glass. Also he is immune to the kinetic energy generated by his optic blasts but can control the inertia feedback of the beam on his body to move around like shown in X-Men '97. Unless he want to let it affect him, that kinetic energy is reabsorbed into the dimension. One important thing to note is that Cyclops power output is measured in how much kinetic energy he can put in one beam, how long he can maintain it, and how small/wide that beam can be in relation to that energy yield. He can focus and concentrate the beam's energy and size with his eyes by controlling the shape of the portal like a nozzle to a certain degree, his only limitation is the mental/psionic load it take to maintain that nozzle on top of using the visor, which help but can only do so much. Same rule would probably apply if he were to expend them to the max (total body surface). So it isn't out of the question that with absolute control of his power, Cyclops would be able to perform a lot of task that simply require Kinetic energy, and with his latent Psionic potential that could just looks like a blend between what his Ultimate Variant and a Telekinetic user can do. Why some characters never seems to reach or even display their logical true potential? Most of the times it's all because the plot require it, and of course, the ever winning status-quo. Sometimes it all come down to the limit of the imagination and creativity of the writers, if they understand the Power System as well as the nerds who never stop thinking about it, they can do amazing things by writing characters that reach their full potential. It's like how Meta are created in video games in ways the dev couldn't even foresaw. It's not hard to thinker on this, you take the canon worldbuilding, the Power System and just apply your creativity with logic, pragmatism and conservative extrapolation to avoid nonsensical things, and reach a level of internal consistency and plausibility. Do that long enough and you'll see that a lot of characters and their power aren't as limited as you previously thought and aren't well developed even in their fictional settings because the writer isn't that good at creating and managing Power System.
Those are, pretty much, his youngest brother's, Vulcan, powers. Considering he had his powers "enhanced" by the Shiar, it stands to reason "regular" Cyclops also has that potential, and is only missing the necessary boost
Vulcan powers weren’t enhanced by the shi’ar. They were enhanced by scarlet witch. When she did house of m all the energy from the mutants who lost their power somehow went to him making him far passed omega. I don’t get how that worked cause she removed mutant powers from every universe so how it all converged into one is questionable.
The only reason cyclops can’t control his powers to its full potential is he suffered brain damage when the ship he was on exploded with havok . They only had one parachute and cyclops hit the ground pretty hard trying to cushion the younger Havok from the impact. Technically he should have the same powers as Vulcan. This is canon. I believe the ship was shot down by the Shi’ar and Corsair was kidnapped.
@@ericlee5934cyclops power is just to open a portal to a specific dimension that has infinite concussive force. Vulcan can manipulate and absorb any energy. Their powers aren’t even close to being the same. Cyclops power is closer to a teleporter than energy manipulator. It’s just his body is immune to that dimension energy
@@emokniet umm yes they are no matter what you think you are saying energy can always be changed into other forms. Cyclops brain damage could’ve prevented him from utilizing his power in different ways. Whose to that that the brain damage he received as a child only limits it pouring through the portals of his eyes. Why can’t every cell in his body be a conduit for this energy. His injury limits the conduit to his eyes and not his whole body. It’s obvious the energy is concussive force and has no effect on his eyelids. So what does that tell you. This comics bro chill with the one dimensional thinking. Maybe his injury also stops his body from changing the energy from concussive force to heat or energy to enhance hi strength. Dude I’ve been reading X-Men for 18 years. There is nothing you can tell me about any of their origins or powers. But thanks for the lesson 👍🏽
We need to see Cyclops go through the Miguel O'Hara transition like we see him start out as a skinny teenager then as he grows up and gets more experienced he gets more buffer. Until he's taller than Wolverine and as buff as Miguel.
It’s actually a interesting theory. Havok & Vulcan both absorb cosmic & solar energy as well & are able to input & output their powers similar. Although Vulcan has been experimented on by the Shiar, he is classified as an Omega Level Mutant, which I believe Havok has the potential ( but that’s another topic). Mr. Sinister has always had an obsession with the Summers DNA due to it being able to perfectly synergize with other mutants. Examples are Omega level offsprings Cable ( Maddy) Rachel Grey& Nate Grey ( Jean Grey) & maybe Ruby Summers & Megan Frost ( Emma Frost) etc. To the main point, Ultimate universe & 616 Cyclops are identical in history via powers, characteristics, experiences, upbringing etc. What if the head injury he sustained as a child affected the way his body metabolizes solar energy? As we know, because of this, he cannot control his powers safely. He can only output it through his eyes at a reduced controlled level via Ruby Quartz visor. But what if he could always output it similar to his brothers? Up until the Cyclops vs Captain Marvel battle, even though she can absorb energy, he defeated her by overloading her with his full optic blast. It’s canonical been stated that Cyclops had never utilized his full powers. In the X-men O.N.E storyline, Cyclops's under mind control by Mr M, an Omega level mutant, overloaded Bishop. His force beams were measured by Iron Man to be almost 2 gigawatts.[151] Two gigawatts is about half the peak power output of the Doel Nuclear Power Plant and when Cyclops released this much energy he exceeded his control over his optic beam. With Cyclops unable to shut off his optic beam, Leech came to his aid and negated his mutant power. It was stated by a surprised Mr. M, that he only utilized a fraction of Cyclops’s power set to do this. He doesn’t exert his full power out of fear of lack of control. Banshee unlocks the full potential of one’s powers without limitations. In the Krakoan era, Cyclops has even stated that he could easily fix his control over his powers through the Resurrection process but he doesn’t since the discipline he has experienced keeps his lack of control in check. As we seen in the Ultimate Universe as well as a 616 Phoenix (Twice) Powered Cyclops, a fully controlled Cyclops over his powers has demonstrated the possibilities of a God Like being.
Cyclops needs to regain this power upgrade and keep it permanently. I'd like to see a storyline either in the comics or animation where as Cyclops gets older he gets better control of his powers and unlocks those powers naturally. He gets stronger, faster, more durable, his beams get more powerful and soon he can control them without the visor.
It's actually kind of funny because Is cyclops like spider-man is One of the characters who did start out young but then became a straight up adult man. You got a better shake at adulthood then Spiderman, did Peter still drawn and written like a teenager sometimes
@DficienC Vulcon is his brother, and no where near as important or popular as Cyclops in Marvel, so it wouldn't be a big deal if he got his brother's powers
Cyclopse energy blasts are a direct link to the dimension of Cytorrak. The dimension of pure force. There's a reason why the crimson gem of cytorrak always ends up in the vicinity of the x-men and why professor x keeps him away from it. He's the true avatar of cytorrak. And when he awakens to his real power. He'll be throwing hands with cosmics and the notion of omega will be so beneath him it might as well be human.
That is absolutely false, He draws power from the "Punch" dimension, which has nothing to do with Cytorrak. The only reason Juggernaut came around is because of his animosity towards Professor X. The only other marvel character that draws on Cytorrak's power on any level (that im aware of) is Dr. Strange when he uses the crimson bands of Cytorrak, which was briefly shown in the battle with Thanos in infinity war.
cyclops quite literally has a power that was NEVER dealt with to its fullest extent, like, he has a god damn UNIVERSE of LIMITLESS energy on his eyes and with his origin we dont even know what could be the full thing, like, the portal on his eyes could be a side effect of the crash, we dont know, and tbh, given how shit the current state of marvel is, we will never know, no actual competent writters anymore, only hacks, this version on ultimate is the closest we will ever get
@@mrhopadopalus true but the sun plays a role too, at least in the 92’ it did. It was an episode where he could take his glasses off because he was underground for a while
I think he's overdue for a power upgrade or secondary mutation, like emma frost, jean grey, wolverine, iceman, etc. He is the face and leader of the X-men, aint he? It honestly makes no sense that he still hasn't gotten the eye problem fixed. (Emma temporarily fixed it, but status quo) His brother Vulcan has complete control over energy, like Captain Marvel. And apparently if summer's genetics and Jean Grey genetics create god mutants like Cable & X-man Nate Grey. The mutants Right now Could use a Superman. Imagine if he could completely embue & power up his body with kinetic energy from that infinite dimension of his or around him. Manipulate that energy into a giant "CYCLOPS FORM" could be useful and badass. Or, more random What if Scott (whose like 6'3 already) could just grow and shrink like a Cyclops ("accidentally" steps on Logan) and fights Bobby (whose also a Omega level Ice/Water God)
The face and leader of the x men has been professor x. And no, cyclops can't do shit to iceman. That guy froze the eternal fires of hell and is immortal and can reform his body wherever there's even the tiniest amount of ice. He can also reduce and raise temperature to extreme lvls. What can cyclops do if iceman just reduces temp to absolute zero? Everything freezes at absolute zero
he is overdue for a secondary mutation, it makes no sense that they give every other mutant on the team a secondary mutation, but Cyclops does not get one
X meba re already OP. Cyclops is fine how he is. He is more than just his powers. Nightwing and batman have lead the justice league despite being the weakest members. That because people like them and cyclops are tacticians, and are extremely intelligent rather than sheer power.
Nah, technically, Cyclops true power here was that he could harness kinetic energy from another dimension full of that very energy.. and he basically opens a portal through his eyes from which those energy comes leaking out in the form of a laser beam.
Kind Of and Kind Of Not he is so much weaker. With a load of missing abilities. He only had the eye Beams but him getting flight makes it supermanish but I would more so call him Homelander.
Originally, in older books, Cyclops' beam was able to "pulverize adamantium". He was also the first character to harm Blob's skin, Im pretty sure. Using a pencil beam to burn through Blob's arm. No character had done it before Cyclops. Then, Marvel pussed him down.
I absolutely LOVE the love that Cyclops is getting, thanks to X-Men 97. Growing up watching the X-Men cartoons in the 90's and reading the comics, I always thought Cyclops was an awesome character. OAN: In my era, I always wanted Patrick Stewart to be Prof X, but wanted Alec Baldwin as Cyclops (Think a young Alex Baldwin when he played in the Beetlejuice film in 89/90).
I get that it’s comics and all, but it’s also not the 1980s anymore. Enhanced strength and durability allowing his body to absorb way more energy would be fine as long as it doesn’t get ridiculous. I’d even be cool with Scott absorbing more energy types that he could fire from his eyes(ex microwaves, x-rays, gamma rays, dark energy, anti-matter, etc). But flight? Surviving in space? Again, yes it’s comics, but even a fictional world strains belief when it strays too far from the fictional science it’s built on.
His brothers can do all of that so how is it over the top? Trying to hold a fictional world to any form of science is your first mistake. Comics aren’t meant to be looked at with a microscope.
Havok has the power of a star within him amd Vulcan manipulates all forms of energy on a whim, if anything the scans shown here for Cyclops are well within what his brothers can do.
The fact that a whole entire universe is getting shot from his eyes was already insane enough, but he can channel said universe into pure power is insane..
That portal thing is just Bs people who don’t read comics and also people who read comics say to sound smarter than everyone else like they know something everyone does. It was only ever stated in a marvel guide and then walked back
Cyclops has the potential to become this in Earth 616. The only thing that stops him is the brain damage that occurred when he was ejected from an exploding ship. Him and Havok had to share a parachute. Being the older sibling Scott shielded his younger brother from the brunt of the impact. This is how Scott was brain damaged and was in a comma for a few weeks. Marvel needs to give that man some surgery to repair the damage and unlock his powers
I like him how he is tbh. The fact that he's not op but still amazing is what makes him cool. That's why im not fond of DC characters so uch. Flashes whose schtick is "FASTFASTFAST" like outrunning teleportation and stuff then superman is just invincibility that's so boring IMO
Superman: hey copycat, got a red cape? Cyclops: atleast i have a belt, and it's yellow. Batman: actually, that was mine ... Cyclops: wait.. what??! .. 😂😂😂
So Cyclops, Gambit, and Jubilee all become full body infusions as "god level" mutants? hmmm Kind of already written.. I would think they would've went a different way after this ALREADY HAPPENING with Gambit...
