I love how she did the "it's me and not you." Her voice is always impressive, not just because it's powerful, but because it never seems forced or strained.
@@unitedkindom89 And Ben Platt said he'll definitely get an Oscar for "Dear Evan Hansen." The hard part of winning an Oscar is there are two slots that award them to actors every year (supporting/lead male or female). And 23 awards total with most going towards crew members. She might win one for writing an Original Song like Lady Gaga did.
@@johnsmi213 the dear evan hansen movie was a nepotistic attempt at a musical and it just crashed and burn. Cynthia Erivo works hard for all that she does and all she will so her getting an Oscar for an unbelievable performance is a hope for a good reason
Her vocal control, range, and smoothness are spectacular. Her timing, articulation, and sharpness of pitch are remarkable, too. Outside of Streisand in her prime, this is the perhaps best live version of "Don't Rain On My Parade" that I ever recall seeing and hearing.
So impressed by how versatile she is…. She doesn’t have “one sound” like some singers… she can do traditional old fashion show tunes flawlessly and also do contemporary r&b and pop. It is just incredible.
The way she sounds on any video, tv, interviews or anything is EXACTLY how she sounds LIVE!! SHE IS AMAZING OMFG. I’m so glad I got to see her HollywoodBowl debut!!
Everybody needs to shut up about Lea Michelle! She has got no style like cynthia and barbra have like in their pinky toe! And Lea thinks she has “arrived” but she has stilll sooo sooo much to learn!! Especially people’s skills
@@Musiclife-nw8qp She plays with volume throughout the entire intro. 1:20-2:11 I could be wrong, but at 1:40 she does a very small increase in volume then holds the note before descending again with vibrato kicking in toward the end of the phrase.
I really don’t know how she performs so perfectly!! Especially with all the beat changes and key changes and modulations and whew!!! She’s so friggin dope
I am a purist and a BIG "early Barbra" fan. I had heard Lillias do it and quite a few others including LM and also saw Julie Benko live. NOBODY BUT CYNTHIA comes close to Barbra. It's all about the sass and power of the sustained notes. And not sustaining straight tone. Her voice just works incredibly well for this. My only regret is not seeing her live in person for Color Purple. I simply must see her someday.
I'm a big early Barbra fan also, and this performance is lovely. The beginning is different and I like it! However, there's one thing I disagree with you on. Lilias' performs is, in my personal opinion, far and away better than this one. It's in a class all its own. Almost like "I Will Always Love You." Obviously, the original sung by Dolly is so special and can't be touched for that reason. But then Whitney got a hold of it and turned it into something incredible and unique! Both versions are amazing and so different you can't really compare them. That's how I feel about this. Barbra owns it, Lilias made it her own. And then there's everyone else. Cynthia is right at the top of the "everyone else" list though! Lolol.
She sings this like she's not even trying because she's not. That's how good she is. She doesn't even have to put any strain or force anything because she's that good.
CoincidentalIy, just today heard for the first time Barbra's closing broadways performance in Funny Girl of the song. This is the only thing that can match the thrill of it!
My favorite Erivo singing will always be the a cappella in Bad Times at the El Royale when she is trying to not get killed while Jeff Bridges is digging in time to the music and she is trying to help him do it surreptitiously. It's absolutely perfect and haunting.
"Sheer perfection" is absolutely correct for describing this radiant gift. ❤ Effortless (or at least she makes it appear so) excellence. 🎯 And that dress! 🔟 ❎🔴❎🔴
Her, Shoshona bean, Jennifer Hudson, Tamela Mann, Kelly Clarkson are just beyond talent. Out of this world talent. There are so many more I could name but these women I mentioned strike a personal depth of emotion when they sing for me.
Cynthia Erivo NEEDS to play Fanny Brice in the remake of funny girl. She would kill it! It was always a hard one to reimagine a Funny Girl remake with out Streisand but I can see it with Cynthia. Sending it out to the universe. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
You do understand that Fanny Brice was actually a real person and existed? I can't imagine any studio casting anyone other than a white female. That said - a studio should!
Thank you for the upload. I love this woman's voice and how she interprets every song and makes it her own. I wish they would upload the full concert 😢😢😢.
I have to say… this is the closest thing to Barbra that I have ever heard. yes, we have “margarine” aka Lina Eder, Idena, Lilly’s, etc. But none can keep ones attention throughout the song. Plus, Barbra has a bite/drive from beginning to end, that up until now, NO ONE, has been able to come close. Sure they have the money note but what about the thousands of notes b4? Cynthia has won!
my music teacher is in the new wicked movie, everyone’s excited that he’s working with ariana grande but i lost my mind when i found out he’s working with THE cynthia erivo????
This is a WONDERFUL performance…but who are the people who literally can’ shut tf up in the background of the video? Do they have any experience going out in public or attending performances?
@@davem2761 True, but she did record the song live with daughter Liza Minelli in 1964. Since Barbra first sang it onstage in 1964, I should have said "Contemporaneously with Barbra..." ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TxilVU_jHu4.html
