I love this, and I couldn't agree more with what he says in the beginning. Improvisation is an art that has been lost from our great classical piano playing tradition, even though it was such a central skill in the age when the music we play was written. This is, somehow, a bit weird, given that we are also so adamant at going back to that age, and understanding exactly how the music was played at that age. In any case, I am very glad to see that Katsaris is seeking to re-awaken the tradition of public improvisations at classical concerts. I hope his receptions to this are positive, and that more talented pianists will follow suit!
