Ohohohoho, that was just delightful! You can feel how much fun he is having playing this. Beautiful, imaginative, masterful arrangement/transcription. Worthy of Liszt himself. Thank you so much for your music, Maestro Katsaris!

Absolutely spectacular. You present the dominant and subordinate themes in such a marvelous balance that there is no effort in listening at all! This is one I will not be trying out for myself.

If Liszt had been able to hear this, he would have been very pleased!

Genius!! This Arrangement is incredible, you're my inspiration for Chopin Sonate 3, Liszt and my Improvisations for piano. I wish one day I would meet you in person. Regards from Spain, Sevilla 🎶

Katsaris seems to play faster with age, breaking trends 😂.

As usual a fascinating and superb performance. The only great pianist alive that compares with his unique pianism is Hamelin. They always have something new to offer. Their musicianship is at a level hard to imagine. Catsaris is a French pianist of Greek origin. As a Greek myself I am very proud of Mr Catsaris.

I've heard him play this several times live and was never convinced. Seems hurried, doesn't breathe, lots of muddy passages. The weird thing is that his rendition of this concerto with orchestra is absolutely breathtaking (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g9-zu1YyDmg.html). Some of the finest Liszt playing ever. But in this transcription, Katsaris often sounds rushed (he plays 20% faster than with orchestra!!) and technically uneasy. Sorry to say so, I admire him more than almost anyone else.

Did ever occur to you that he plays faster because of the decay of the piano sound ?
@Pogouldangeliwitz
@Pogouldangeliwitz 3 года назад
@@frankromano9064 I don't think that's the explanation. It's more a question of inner pacing. Or rather: the lack of it, regarding this particular transcription. Strange case!

@@Pogouldangeliwitz I'm a Katsaris lover also, but I do find that he rushes excessively during some of his live performances, including this one. Surely he's too experienced to rush due to nervousness. I sometimes whether he's invoking the performance traditions of some early 20th century pianists like Béla Bartók and Ilona Eibenschütz, who recorded performances that also are around 20% faster than typical performances of the same pieces today.
