As always Cziffra plays this Etude like a man possessed. So much fire and passion it's not surprising that his early London recitals had critics searching for their most colourful superlatives.
Incredible performance! Every time he played this piece it was a little different, although the outlines are very well calculated and bring out the drama to it's utmost. Cziffra is of course known as a very 'improvisatory' artist but no one should ever dismiss how thoughtful an interpreter he was. This was clearly one of his absolute favourite Liszt pieces! I saw the video of him practicing it in preparation for a comeback, not long before he sadly passed. Cziffra was an absolute singular treasure in the music world. To describe him as the 'second coming of Liszt' is actually discounting how unique and special he was. I doubt Liszt would have played it like this. Liszt would have been incredible in his own way, but Cziffra's very 'gypsy' way with pushing and pulling the rhythm is something that Liszt would have probably not had as much of. Again, thankyou for this amazing performance. A rare treat!
Another video of cziffra! this is fantastic! Is it from the 1965 Lugano recital? Also is there the full video of the valse impromptu that you uploaded on cziffra's 101st birthday?
Molto bravo e virtuoso, l'unica cosa io quando eseguo questi studi o altro il testo non lo cambio ne trasporto nei bassi, secondo me si ottengono gli stessi effetti se non di più stando all'originale se no cosa scrivo no a fare....
