Czinger Vehicles engineers for Pareto optimality at the full vehicle level. The 21C’s Bio-Logic chassis is the perfect representation of this foundational principle. It is (1) comprehensively optimized across multiple variables including: stiffness, fatigue, crash, and manufacturing requirements using a full stack in-house developed software suite that incorporates AI and is driven by an elite team of engineers (2) additively manufactured using laser powder bed fusion and patented alloys and (3) robotically bonded to 0.1mm accuracy.

You can’t call it sustainable if even a minor fender bender is going to total the entire chassis… causing large sections to be completely replaced. When the production method uses more energy than traditional extrusions or composites do to make. Sustainability is a overall measurement not just a measure of material/weight reduction I thought this was beautiful when it was a concept ages ago, but the amount of corporate bs speak he just word souped completely changed my opinion on the car.

The people who know about 3d modeling complicated geometries and knowledgeable technically combined, understands each piece of sections in that car chassis. Its not about you know how to do 3d modeling it's the continuity and should work with each other. Failing to do so the rest of components will not fit each other and fail. And you do it again by scratch. Its amazing how we technologically advance today. I hope someday Artificial Intelligence helps us in streamlining the workflow and let us focus in doing the important things.

4:39 - 25% lighter and 25% less material. Well, its probably more than 25% because they are using additive manufacturing rather than subtractive. Now, one could argue the waste from subtractive manufacturing could be re-cycled, and it can, but it cost a lot of energy to do that.

I am interested in what the generative design to manufacture process actually is. Off the top of my head, I imagine that a program like Matlab takes in all of the required parameters from a database (for max and min size, mass, material, torsional rigidity etc) and then outputs the optimal solution as a mesh in a STEP file format, which is then passed to a high end CAD program (like CATIA v6 or Siemens NX) for a CAD technician to "trace" around and optimise it for manufacture. Then the 3D CAD file is exported to a 3D metal sintering machine. I might be completely wrong of course and there may be one single program which can do all of this! Either way, it is super interesting.
