EXP for me, simply warmer! Getting harder to find, so I have stocked up.

I play a 12string acoustic. The EXP strings produces the best warm sound for the A and bass E strings. Tried the XT strings. Too bright, making the sound too flat. With D'Addario retiring the EXP strings, I cannot reproduce the warm sounding bass notes that I love. Any suggestions for good alternate warm sounding 12 strings?

I like EXP one, it sounds more mild and lively

I actually preferred the EXP's and played them exclusively for over a decade, but unfortunately they were discontinued, which I really find annoying. The XT's are decent enough, although more expensive, and I find that they don't hold their tone as long anymore, even though I wipe them clean after every set. Seems that almost everyone in the comments liked the EXP's better as well. I wonder if D'addario would consider reissuing the classic EXP series?

EXP must continue to be created. I've tested it several times. The XT sounds too dry. I was very disappointed with the sound of the XT. Discontinuing the EXP series is a fatal mistake.

Luckily the EXP brand isn't being discontinued. Sorry if I said something that alluded to that. The EXP has been out for years, the XT set is just an alternative.

@@AlexPriceMusician Isn't the EXP series discontinued? I was disappointed to see that the contents of the EXP series had been deleted from the Daddario website. It would be very disappointing if they decided to discontinue the EXP series. I'd be happy if I could keep watching the EXP. My opinion is just disappointment with the XT series, I don't mean to criticize you.

The EXP strings appeal to me more. They sound warmer. The XT strings sound like they are being held in check tonally and don't have the warmth.

Please tell me phosphor string or 80/20 which is good for fingerstyle with separate tunes like eddie van deer meer

After trying EXP strings, i never tried anything else. I found my guitar's voice. Hopefully they'll bring them back or come up with a closer sounding set of strings than the XTs. I'm still searching for the closest sounding replacement for the EXP.

Have you tried the XS set yet? They seem to be most popular with acoustic guitarists

@@AlexPriceMusician not yet. I have a pack, but haven't used them yet. I'm hoping that it's a closer match. I've tried alot of varieties of strings from Elixir, Martin, d'addario, ernie ball. Coated, uncoated, different materials. Once I tried the EXP series, that was it for me. Everybody has their own preference, but that was my favorite. I'll let you know how the XS strings work out. Got a set of thomastik infeld plectrums on my main guitar right now. They aren't bad at all. If they become my go to strings, that wouldn't be so bad. Thanks for the reply.

Personally, I prefer the Martin Lifespan Phosphor Bronze set, 13 gauge when it comes to coated acoustic strings. The Plectrum set is really, really cool. I just bought another set for my parlor once the current strings wear out.

Exp sounds better in this video. I use EXP-19 because they do.not.break. I play really hard. I used to use elixirs and coated Martins and would break a string every 2nd or third time I'd play. But I can hammer on a set of EXP-19's every Sunday for months without breaking a string. I just need to know whether d'addario XT or XS will be as reliable.
@AlexPriceMusician

Allegedly the XT and XS sets are using a high carbon steel core - same as the NYXL sets, which are advertised as having higher break resistance. It has been nearly a decade since I broke a string so I can’t offer personal feedback on that, but according to D’Addario these should be even better than the EXP in that regard.

Honestly the Martin 2.0s beat both and i cannot use coated strings. Give me treated. So XT here. The XT will break in and be warm and hold that warmth Either way I'm obsessed with Martin's new authentic line. And I always hated Martin strings and was a bit of a strings snkb and would only buy really quality stuff

@@RockStarOscarStern634 I find EXP more usable and an extension of their infamous EJ series Whereas XT has softer feel and a strange EQ curve, unlike the tone that I have come to learn about D’Addario strings.

The comparison has become mute as EXP sets have truly been discontinued and sold out. I'm more interested in the Martin Lifetime vs these XTs.

I personally like the Lifespans much more than the XT set. The XT set sounds fine when you put them on but a month or two later and they start to sound tin-y. I put out a video last week comparing the Martin Lifespans the day I put them on vs. 2 months later.
