D’Angelo’s dad, Luther Archer Sr, was my pastor. He just died a few months ago. He was a fantastic man and musician. D’Angelo definitely gets his musical talents from his pops! REST IN POWER, PASTOR LUTHER ❤️
A couple of weeks ago I was taking the train by myself and I had been feeling kind of down all week. I went to stand at the doors as the train was about to pull up to my station and I noticed this older Black gentleman (nicely dressed) was looking at me. I'm normally shy but I smiled at said, "Good Morning, Sir" and he smiled back and said "Well good Morning, Brown Sugar!" I was cheesin so hard y'all, that was the nicest thing a man had said to me in a long time, I floated through the rest of that day with the biggest stupid smile on my face X-D
aw what a sweet story :)..so nice to get sweet and innocent compliments rather than leery, creepy inappropriate comments about a body part ,etc which seems to be all young guys know how to do these days :/
@@nocturnaljoe9543 that’s an unfair comparison, michael was a god amongst men in terms of talent and i doubt hardly anyone will ever reach that level again
@@kaphizmey6229 Have you ever heard of Prince? The guy, who some also considered a "god among men" and actually wrote many of Michael's songs. One was just more popular than the other and they had different skills, but their work was on an other level. I really don't see how fatcs can or need to be fair in any way, bro.
I love Asians, and Polynesians, and man I like Italians too, like is that ok around here? Or should I go back to where I came from? Just sayin, cause there's a lot of segregation going on in this corner of RU-vid...
Horatio Alloway there's nothing wrong with black people appreciating and uplifting other black people. Why is it that when black people want to be proud and hang out with people who look like them compared to other groups of people some how it's seen as an act of segregation when it's really others who don't want anything to do with us and look down on us. Are we the people who created/started segregation? Did we create racism? For example, when asians hang out with other asians, are they looked down upon for doing so? It somehow has to be a crime when people like to associate and even marry their own people. Only black people completely understand what it means to be a black person in society.
Chyt. Not just of the era bruh. One of the very best R&B hit's ever that's facts. Easily In the top 10 R&B song's of all X'z. Especially If we're talking solo Black Male singers 4r4r. But even still If you were to say all R&B music ever made his album would be amongst the top 100 songs of all X'z facts ijs tho. This album literally changed the sound & the soulfulness of what we know as "modern" R&B to this very day. Think 'SZA' & 'H.E.R' as well a plethora of other artist with similarity In style, approach in today's R&B sound that the modern kid's are making. It's very Badu-ish. Soulquarian-ish. Just with the newer modern drum patterns. A bit more morbid, melancholy. It's down tempo opposed to up tempo, also more darker, reverbed, & filtered, not as clean sonically etc. I'm not even sure If I'd call It (soul) music tho myself.. More like Spirit, or Soul-less music U feel me bro lmao bkz these kids are krazy today ijs lol. They like singing bout (sewa-c1de) & all that k8lln chyt smh lol
I suffer from really bad anxiety and often have panic attacks that are nearly uncontrollable (almost daily). But whenever I do get anxiety attacks, I put this album on and all the stress goes away. I wish I can thank D’Angelo personally for this beautiful album. A true artist and one of the most talented individuals to walk on planet Earth. All his albums are masterpieces. But this is my go to album when I’m stressed and idk what I’d do without it. Thank you D’Angelo.
I couldn't agree with you more. This was written exactly how I would have commented. My partner and I would listen to this and felt like every problem could be solved. Love to D'angelo for creating a masterpiece. Xx
This young man marked his 50th yesterday (Sunday February 11th 2024) Had the privilege of seeing him at The Academy @Brixton, London in July 2000 with the release of his second album VOODOO. I missed him 5 years earlier when he came to London, to showcase his debut album @London’s Jazz Cafe. How time flies!!!
This just feels so good inside. I was 10 when this came out. Kids actually liked r&b at one point and time. It felt fresh and new. Jazzy r&b, just how I like it. That new jack stuff was done and this new sound came right on time.
This was me and my late husband song whenever I walked in the house and that was playing I knew what time it was the same for him This song fills my heart with joy of time pass rembering how fine I was then 14 years he is gone listening to this song I can feel him and smell him it heightens all my senses
Had this album on cassette tape I played all the way up until the early 2000’s when the tape deck in my ‘96 Toyota Corolla ate it. 🤤🤎Such a smooth track.🤤🤎
Smh, and laughing at the same time. Not that I think it's funny, but sometimes you have to laugh to keep yourself sane. How & WHY is it going to just eat and destroy my tape.
Dennis Newby Were you a 1970’s or 1980’s child? Tape decks are notorious for ‘eating tapes’. It was a common occurrence.👍👍👍 Tape decks reach into a cassette tape & extract the little skinny brown ‘tape’ within it, and then the tape is put over 2 wide set pegs where it is passed in front of the reader and out comes music in your speakers. After you’ve listened to a cassette tape over a period of time like 9mnths of occasional play to even years for the higher quality ones, the tape deck will reach in & grab the tape to put it over the 2 pegs and the tape will either immediately break bc its just been listened to a lot, or it will play for a bit but then break and tangle and grind to a halt. That is referred to as the cassette tape being ‘eaten’ by the tape player. It’s not a mystery, it’s just a part of listening to a tape you really like to the point it breaks.
You don't have to come up with a 1000 inventions to be called a genius. I think D'Angelo is one such genius. A legend that takes his time to make timeless music that will still be celebrated millennia from now. Honestly what a genius.
Every time I hear this song it takes me back to my childhood. My family was at Stone Mountain Park in Georgia and a really bad thunderstorm came out of nowhere. We rushed back to our car and waited in the parking lot for the storm to pass. This song came on the radio and it was such an ironic moment. Chaos ensuing outside with lightning, crackling thunder, a downpour so bad that you can't see what's in front of you, but this beautiful song playing in the background. It made everything seem ok
music isnt made with as much soul jazz funk and quality as this today.......so effortless and seductive....dangelo along with maxwell were punching out records ahead of their time......
this is one of the smoothest tracks i’ve heard in a minute. this came out before i was born but it’s got a different vibe than the stuff coming out now, that’s why they call them “oldies but goodies” 💪🏻🔥
He was not talking about that brown sugar that you find On the shelf at a supermarket; no sir! He's about that walking, talking, breathing, and l high functioning Brown Sugah BaaaayBeee ❣️ You Mo'Betta talk about it, D'Angelo💃🏾‼️
First song I listened to on the first stereo I bought with my own money just after I moved out of my dad's house. Had a sweet girlfriend and we'd get it on to this all the time. LOVE this song. So many cool memories.
Had this on repeat for my birthday with the mother of my child. I must say I don't know how we didn't have a second child for those two weeks cause lord😪. Those lips and eyes never looked so good and this song kicked it up a notch.
Raphael Saadiq on bass (lol@sideburns); Ali Shaheed Muhammad on drums; D'angelo on keys and vocals. the ORIGINAL LUCY PEARL. Peace from SYDNEY, Australia.
