@@robdarichmusic he actually past that and his drug problems and still out their making great music with a band he formed called the Vanguard... He won a Grammy for a album he did with them just the other day.. He is doing well.
There's an Australian band called Hiatus Kaiyote who play some pretty sweet neo soul music. Bunch of whiteys but they kill it. Also you've got Thundercat and Flying Lotus who are doing some dope ass shit.
I Agree NO lables. I was trying to explain what the music media was calling the artist at the time. They were saying this soul is different from the soul your parents was listening to. However, its just good music is the truth of the matter.
Kalima Yup. The Neo Soul era was truly special: D'Angelo, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Rahsaan Patterson, Angie Stone, Maxwell, Bilal, Music Soulchild, and others. Good ole days. I miss them so much.
I don't care what any of y'all say, D'Angelo, Maxwell, Erykah Badu, and Jill Scott are the four amigos of the Neo-Soul movement with some others included there two.
@@Ava_ItoI'm old school before I knew what the turn 'ate that' meant but he definitely did that. I got the cd when it came and still have it.I worn it out😅
H Az D’Angelo is one of my all time favorite artist! I also agree that he’s in a class of his own and one of the pioneers of Neo Soul/R&B. But do you know how many classic singles and albums that Prince has, how many instruments he played, how many songs he’s wrote/composed and produced for himself and SO many others?! So with D’Angelo being this “student of the game” as you say, I’m sure Prince played a MAJOR part in it. Also DMV ALL DAY🤟🏾(for the other ppl in this section)
Neo Soul never bigger than it was in the 90s with the likes of Jill Scott, Erykah badhu, D'Angelo, India Arie, Maxwell, Angie Stone all fantastic artists
I’m 33, I’ll be 34 pretty soon, and with all on the radio, I still come back to this, the 90s were golden, the music, the videos, the fashion, the beauty, the access to money, the Clinton Christmas’s when everyone got gifts, it was excess and minimalism at the same time, I miss it ❤️❤️❤️
This is all about a chocolate covered dream... Ctfu. This music is about the beauty in black people. You must not be able to hear music for what it is... That might just be a thing only "niggaz" can do. Lol.
Shidoshi Tanaka You've probably never had a conversation with a black person in your life. I know you're getting off on this. You're welcome and goodbye.
It’s sad how the music business did him got em hooked on dope then dropped em... Played this cd so much I had to go to TOWER RECORDS to buy another one because started to skip
The way he looked at the woman with the short hair ohhhh my gawd 😍😍😍 having a man that looks at you like that damnnnn marry him 😍😍😍 dear universe you hear my prayers LOL
+Juanni Yes it is. Soul is a branch of rhythm and blues. All genres of black music are technically branches of rhythm and blues because their roots are planted in the blues, which began during slavery and really took off after Reconstruction. Basically, adapt intricate rhythm to blues melodies and sensibilities and you have rhythm and blues. Therefore, D'Angelo was technically doing R&B, and so were all the other "neo soul" artists of that time. Both neo soul and 90s (and early 2000s*) R&B are appropriate terms to describe that movement.
No matter if it's a D'angelo song I'm listening to or a music video I'm watching, my reaction is always "black is beautiful". I just love how he effortlessly exemplify that notion in everything he does.
A very ignorant, racist based, point of view. How about, "art is beautiful" and recognize the fact that sound communication, is, and has been, the bridge that transcends, race
I dare BLACK people to not engage with the idiot above me. We've been going through way too much in life...for centuries...to expel any energy on degenerates.
Agreed and glad to say I experienced the Neo Soul era it first hand as it was introduced and unfolded cause we never heard anything like it! I don’t think that era of music gets the respect it deserves! Plus this video just showcased how talented he is all those instruments he can play and this was before the “How Does It Feel Days” when the new fans only cared bout his looks when this man is a beast musically and vocally! 💯💪🏽🐐👑🔊🎶🔥🥰
Glad he kept the Aboriginal Indigenous women in the video , because the song is about us you know, loving the soulful sound and feeling!!! Thanks .Wish we had more song like this.💖💖💖💖💖🙋♀🙋♀🙋♀🙋♀🙋♀
Mannn This Right Here Aint Doin Nothing But Making me Proud Of Being Black And Thanking God He Gave Us All Different Ways To Express Ourselves....Deangelo Has The Voice Of An ANGEL.....
I love this song by him!!! It’s one of my favorite old school songs, D’Angelo is one of my favorite singers!!! ❤😊❤😊 This is one of my favorite songs by D’ANGELO!!! ❤❤😊😊🎶 😍 🤩 🎵
A blind man can tell you it’s D,Angelo when he hears the first sound that comes to his ears. This is a unmistakable without a doubt one of the greatest videos ever to show this guy as a Musical Genius.
I don't care how you try to label this form of Soul, it's an extension of old school. It hasn't disappeared, mainstream just isn't promoting Soul music. Be patient, Soul music never dies, it'll be back on top.
2021 who's out there listening this Classic Hit. D'angelo is so Smooth with all his tracks I just had to come and listen again. Not tht I didn't have this Album lolol but I lost it and wht a lost it is.
