D&D: Diplomancy 

The title of the video is DiplomaNcy. The "n" apparently gets lost in there. It's a made up term describing the way a high charisma player uses any of the charisma-based skills to magically bend the world to their will. We know that they're bluff checks.

When you roll a 2 on deception, but the guard rolls 1 on insight

Amusingly similar thing happened in one of my D&D games. One player avoided getting caught by the guards by claiming to be an entertainer for Jeff's birthday (a random name he came up with on the spot). A few dice rolls later and all the guards are in this one room (and not at their posts where the rest of the party were) jumping out and yelling surprise as Jeff walked in. It was his best birthday yet.

I love how Kyle’s character goes from “blind panic” to “wait it’s working” to “this damn fool will fall for literally everything I say! I hereby name you Greg and accuse you of chicken-murder!”

Sword acupuncture, as it turns out, is quite the handy tool for diplomacy. Also, where did you guys film this one? Quite the fancy schmancy location.

Reminds me of the time my party were trying to sneak aboard a ship, but there were guards checking papers at a checkpoint. "Excuse me sirs, we absolutely need to get onto this ship." "Then you need your papers." "We were sent by Captain Pallitus (who is a recurring guard NPC that has helped the players)" "Do you have any kind of written form signed by him." "......No, but he told us it was important, and he even gave us his signature catchphrase." "Which is...?" *The player pauses for a moment, realising they didn't actually have anything in mind.* ".....I am Captain Pallitus..?" *rolls persuasion* *critical* "Hmm, well that *does* sound like Captain Pallitus... Alright, you can go through."

That hat gives him +50 CHA, right?

"Someone killed Greg!" "Actually, it was sword acupuncture. He's fine." (ROLLS) "Wow, I had no idea such a thing was possible! He looks so relaxed!"

He's also in charge of managing the king's Roys.

DM: You see a troll guarding the door P: I go to him and tell him i'm not dangerous and i want to talk about a human/troll alliance DB rolls dice DM: The troll starts to think. "well, the complicated political relations with humans will make it difficult to be accepted by our leaders. However if i..." P: While he is distracted i stab him in the face.

Seems kind of strange he believed in the king the entire time except in the end when he says it's a democraty. *Dice roll* Of course, it must be a constitutional democraty. But why wouldn't there be a throne room then? *Dice roll* Ahh, you don't need a throne room, because the king doesn't need to rule and everything is done by the ministers and the parliament.

XD this one killed me. the bullshit you can pull in D&D with diplomacy checks is awesome... you just need to find a dm that is ok with you solving things with a silver tongue instead of a sword

Oh God, I love the quick cuts of their faces during the rolls. Kyle's progression from nerve-wracked to cocky killed me.

Every face player ever knows what this is like. most combat players have no Idea. I had a totem barbarian, who apparently had the god of luck concealed on his character sheet. why? Cause a guy with 3 charisma convinced a man with 9 wisdom to give him all the things and jump off a a bridge.

Yup, that's about how it goes. Exact words once I start rolling low. "Really? That's what toppled this?"

Wow how low did they make the skill checks on those? ... Or how many natural 20s did that guy get?!

Reminds me of my very first D&D game. We where first level and had just entered a cave system. We found a couple of Kobolds, in what was obviously our first combat encounter. So obviously the rogue decides to try to talk to them first, and proceeds to roll a 20 on diplomacy. We proceeded to do very little fighting and a lot of bossing around of hapless Kobold minions that session.

"You did" "How dare y- oh my god you're right I'm so sorry!" The power of the dice knows no bounds.

A friend of mine once did a backflip and revealed a conspiracy to take over the world. In the same game, he convinced a legion of fish-people that he was their lord and saviour. It was a good game

And this is why I play 5th Edition. But wait, why is there a king in this democracy, but no throne room?

Reminds me of when my party was trying to get into an embassy. The conversation between me and the guard went like this: Guard: Your invitation, please. Me: I don't need an invitation, the king himself called me here, have you not read the new orders? (Rolls persuasion, success) Guard: Of course sir, my bad. And who are the four men accompanying you? Me: They are my lovers. I have a really high sex drive. The king allowed me to bring them with me, so I have someone to f*** me whenever I feel like it. (Rolls persuasion, critical success) Guard (after the GM and the other players had stopped laughing): That makes perfect sense. You may enter.

I really like the dnd videos. You should do more. Funny story: I once had a game where a guy had so bad luck that he tripped and drowned in a 30cm(almost 1 feet) deep river.

I must say, I have only recently found your channel, yet you all have left me with this sense of just... awe. You approach each of these skits with such purity, and yet that purity is laced with such a deep understanding of each source's... their core. Speaking with such a firm grasp on each quality they have. I find it simply astounding how you can manage to have not only a deep understanding, yet somehow find the means to portray the absurdity of it all in such a... general, all encompassing manner. In this video, one doesn't need the absurd notion of how broken diplomacy can be in D&D in order be left floored by the final punch line. It's such a careful balance you all can strike in your scripts that truly leaves me in utter awe. These skits are crafted and delivered so neatly, I can compare it only to masters of their craft. No one else could be able to weave every element into their creation. A seemingly perfect blend of understanding, passion, and genuineness. And yet each of your skits have these elements. It's been such a treat discovering what you guys have created here, and I feel a sense of regret not discovering it all sooner.

Okay, hands up. How many people wish they could do this?

I was DMing some weeks ago for my friends, and the party entered the lair of a manticore. They were not that stealthy about it, so the creature confronted them face to face. She hissed, with a voice that sounded like a combination between a snake and an old woman: What are you doing in my lair? In response, our Hafling Bard, Pepe Bowie, answers her, mimicking her voice: What are you doing in OUR lair?!?!?!?!? PB rolled a critical hit. The manticore, a natural 1. She just stood there, protecting herself from the attacks of the rightful owners of the lair where she had entered, uninvited. We could no stop laughing for the entirety of the fight.

This is a great channel. THE BEST CHANNEL.

five years later, and I can say, I've watched this so much, I can't recall how many times...

The Viceroy being in charge of the king’s vices is hilarious. I’m going to use that one day.

I remember using bluff one time to convince our cleric that he was at nearly full health after a battle. Like two games later his character was about to die when he snapped his head up and spoke abruptly, "Ya know, I don't feel like I'm really at full health"

This reminds me of a time my friend was trying to lock pick a door in front of a guard. She bluffed that it was her room, and pretended like she was using a key. She failed the lock pick, but bluffed so damn well the guard was like "having trouble? need me to help?" so the guard helped her lockpick the door.

This scenario seems familiar. Maybe it's the architecture. Maybe it's the governmental structure. Or maybe it's because we pump foreign diplomats so full of opiates that they are just as easy to influence.

So you convinced a guard the whole time that their was a king when there was in fact no king and it was a democracy.

We feel as though a dice roll for determining if someone believes you is a greater risk than necessary. Simply shooting them usually gives the same result

This was great, and does reflect some of the games I've been involved with where my friend, one lucky SOB, would roll high every time it was critical to do so... The kind of guy to convince a King he's but a peasant, or convince a Knight that having his arm hacked off is "but a flesh wound"... :)

Something I didn't even notice in my first 20 listenings is that every time Kyle lied, you could hear a dice roll (listen closely at 2:06,) which makes more sense regarding Greg's sudden switch back.

My favorite kind of DMs treat conversations like normal people conversing while only using checks for bluffs or to gain some sort of insight to give you a leg up in the conversation. Course bluff is where things can get ridiculous

but... those were all bluff rolls, not diplomacy

This reminds me of a amazing campaign I was in last year were a member of our party was just garbage at negotiation checks and would always roll two 1s (fumble = failure) every time they came up. This happened every time we had to interact with nekogoblins and as a result we joked that she kept calling them racial slurs. This happened every single time without fail. It was pretty incredible.

This is my favorite D&D sketch ever. I want like 50 more of these about other kinds or rolls. Or just sequels to this.

As you attempt to begin a productive day of work a wild video produced by the mystical wizards of white lightning barrels through a mysterious monster like door and begins to harass you, where upon a ferocious battle of wit, will and wonder ensues. As the battle wanes you feel a sense of foreboding as if this is not the end and so you choose to follow the only sane course of action and attempt to run away, unfortunately the wizardly agents of purest white lightning have somehow created an amalgamation of videos stacked upon one another of which you see no end and sent it through the doorway for others to behold the wonder and majesty of it in it's entirety, of course your wonder and amazement are diminished by your feeling of sadness wondering if that project of yours will ever be finished. You send a quick prayer to some nameless god of productivity, whom had faded long ago do to a lack of the aforementioned concept across the planes of existence, in the hopes that you could find the will to tear yourself away and flee from the horde of virulent videos. Of course you critically fail to break your gaze upon the majesty that is the wizard's creation and must now watch as your carefully planned day is unravelled by the insane machination of some being known only as Kyle the Hobo.

Ah, I love using bluffs to change the world. In my first ever D&D session I convinced a bunch of Goblins that I was their god after they tried to kill us by flooding a passageway. And then before they could see us our changeling transformed himself into an image of their god so we used that to convince them to give us everything we wanted. And then when they escorted us out of the cave and saw the dead goblins we had killed earlier we blamed their deaths on some wolves that they had had chained up and we had set free earlier.

All these years later, and it's so sad that kind helpful man never got to give his sword to the king. So sad.

This skit gave my group our favorite character. He is named Greg in honor of this sketch

Reminds me of a time with a character where I rolled two critical successes dealing with the same npc. First was an intimidate and second a charm (bit of a time lapse between the two, also system was Dark Heresy if curious). So basically, we decided he was super attracted to women who scared the bejeezus out of him. Good times, good times.

This is the life story, of Greg, as told by Charisma Mcgee A long time ago, 5 years, he was born into the butt sorcerers of the kingdom Totallyreal. He was lauched out of a catapult to see if Greg could fly, but in doing so, he shot lazers out of his eyes and murdered about a trillion butt sorcerers in the process. When he landed, he was a fully grown adult with a goatee and fake wig. He joined the Democratic King's Guard alongside his good friends, Big Fist and Garret Meyer and began his duties patrolling the Courtyard of Despair when he saw a chicken sitting next to a man with a top hat. He quickly rushed over, picked up the chicken, and through the genetic butt magic hit beat the man over the head with the chicken 6000 times, killing both him and the chicken. When he came to, he was patrolling to find a rugged man help move the body and stopped to question him. After a few questions, he realized what he had done and was put to death by the same rugged man. He was found dead not seconds after for his crimes against chickens, top hats, and butt sorcerers. He will be honored by his parents, Vinea Column and Tile-r Column in their memory.

One of Indy's great lines in the computer game "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)" as he approaches a German checkpoint somewhere in Germany. Guard: "I need to see your authorization." Indy: "My authorization? You insult me!" Guard: "Insult or not, you must have clearance." Indy: "You talk this way to a senior officer?" Guard: "Officer? You are not in uniform!" Indy: "I am operating undercover. It's classified." Guard: "Classified? A secret mission? Did they give you credentials?" Indy: "It's top secret. I have no ID." Guard: "No kidding! OK you can go."

Pretty much the experience of every Bard player ever :P

I once went into a tavern with the usual shady man in the corner. his quest was to get into a dungeon with the strongest of monsters and he will reward us if we bring a special cup dipped in red from the dungeon. I convinced him we already did it (yet we did not) by dipping a normal cup into a red paint bucket. And saying "I have your precious trinket." Rolled 20 and completely derailed the DM of his plans. We had to wait a week for more on the campaign.

You dont "slash" with a rapier. You pierce. Undoubtedly there is someone who is not very proficient with this weapon...

My favorite was bullshitting my way through military inspection. This game is a parody of kingdom hearts so you can visit worlds from various media. Favorite comics,movies, anime etc. I showed them Zapp Brannigan’s credentials from Futurama. Convinced them Earthica was an actual country. Snuck a cannon and rockets past inspection by convincing them I was somehow authorized to have those with help from my other crew member. Then convinced them a claptrap from borderlands was our captain with a nat 20. I was making everything up on the spot and somehow kept rolling well. I should also mention there was a pirate flag on said ship so obvious pirate ship:

"Really? That's what toppled this?" Oddly enough, I've done something similar in shadowrun. And it ended with the guy realising "Wait a second, the CEO's head of the clown guard force that uses rubber chickens as a torture method's name is Steve not Paul!"

*mentions king* Greg: That aight *mentions throne room* Greg: WHAT! YOU ARE A LIAR
