The artifacts in the original AD&D you could roll random powers and abilities, so one Axe of the dwarvish Lords may not have the same powers and abilities as the same item in another campaign. In the new 5e edition, they are all the same..

I really enjoyed this vid. Like you said,every time I open the adnd books in flooded with nostalgis, I love the line drawings and the dark edge to it. And the microscopic text, if you don't wear glasses, you'll need them after reading that book hshs

AD&D all day. I am 32 years old 1E is the way to go, it has so much infomation on how to do everything, everything has a point the only bad thing about it is going back and forward between Players Guide and GMG in some points. I also play solo and it is perfect for it IMO. I am getting some other books printed such as the survival guides :-)

I have both, one is just a pdf. The paper in one is more durable than the other. One is black and white, high density of information, the other is too many pretty pictures and unneeded art in full colour. So its page count is not accurate. The pretty one will cost more than double the cost of the other. Even if I generously suggest the text in the pretty one is just as useful in its own way, it's still redundant and costs twice as much as the one with more content for half the price in the end. Both can be seen as not entirely edition restricted. If one absolutely must use the the 5th edition DMG, download a file with google and print out the few pages you actually like.

@@JilesMcCoy Saltmarsh was one of the best 1st level adventures back in the day. There was a series of them, I think 3 adventures all chained together. One of the first adventure paths of sorts. I can't recall off the top of my head what the other two was called.

I really dislike modern D&D. Instead of the telling of new Tolkein stories, with Halflings and Humans, Dwarves and Elves, you are more accurately re-enacting a furry convention. Demon-blood PCs instead of demons being monsters to kill. Cat-people in armor and half-dragons who breathe fire as a first level character; and more powers and abilities at start then Superman. Paladinhood available to all races and alignments, instead of making a class unique to only the purest of humans; instead of Lancelot and Galahad, you are re-enacting...well, nothing, really. And character deaths so rare the DM must really hate the player to make it happen. And don't get me started on the disgusting wokeness of WotC.

The game is really what you make it. If you are playing with a group that doesn’t match your taste you should just find another group. The system doesn’t force you to do anything. And if you really don’t like a core mechanic you can always play 1e,2e,3e,4e,OG dnd, pathfinder, gurps, palladium, etc etc etc.

@@JilesMcCoy Well, yes, I agree with everything you said. I was merely expressing my opinion on 5th edition. It does impact me as 5th edition being the current thing, it makes it more difficult to find groups that match my taste.
