Our adventurers are cursed with a madness that worsens by the day. The only way to lift the curse is with an Artifact called the Ring of Curse Banishment. The party arrives at a chamber filled with a dense mist and the sounds of whispering. Will they find the Artifact before losing their minds? Find out in this Puzzle / Trap Encounter created by a team of participants at DungeonCon Online's Puzzle workshop in May 2021.

"Do not pull the lever" Pulling the lever activates the trap as described, turning the lever and unscrewing it reveals the ring in the bottom of the recess the lever was in.

Aha, so this is what you were playing around with in dungeondraft during the livestream! The relatively easy setup would make this puzzle fit into most settings. I like the addition of a time limit as I think my players would get the riddles pretty fast. And I also think the trap at the end would most likely catch a lot of people off-guard! I love it! A stream where the community puts together a puzzle in an hour sounds like a great idea.

Haha, yep! This puzzle was a bonus to all of those that caught the live stream. I think next live stream we will do something similar and create a group puzzle. Should be fun. Also... I totally agree. While it's a relatively easy puzzle the fact that the timer exists will provide a sense of urgency and I can't wait to spring the trap on them at the end, lol. Thank you Prippy! Hmm, when the little statues are placed correctly I would have certain stone slide out of the wall slightly to give them somewhere to climb up to the ledge.

Can't wait to use this in an online game and record myself whispering mocking my players for their failures LOL The pulling the lever trick was just icing on the cake! (adding injury to insult in this case LOL) I really like this one Wally! Also, bonus points for using magic cards for the ledge! Good use of those extra Black lotus you have around...

Pulling the lever was my favorite part, lol. And I use Black Lotus cards for coasters for my beers... the ledge was made up entirely of old Moats that I have no use for... lmao

That is an awesome idea for a puzzle. It can fit almost perfectly into a one session quest I have been thinking about making about a manor that was enchanted to keep looters away with a special item in it and this could be where the special item is hidden.

Hello Wally, great video! Need to watch it again, still waking up. What happens when they pull the lever and the statues are in the wrong place? It's funny you said something about clothes, always like the t-shirts you have on. I know you are super busy these days. Did you ever check out Kris's trap at Crooked Staff Terrain. Always watch with a cup of coffee Matt! lol. Pulling the lever with the obelisks/statues in the wrong place? I would say that... nothing happens. Or, I would jolt them with electricity! Haha! Also, yeah, I now pick out my t-shirts based on what I want to wear in my videos, lol. I have been pretty swamped lately, but I will do my best to check out the Crooked Staff Terrain. I have a player with a warding wind spell. How would you handle them dissipating the mist or worse, all failing their perception checks thus not noticing the whispers?

I love questions like this Robbe, thank you for posing it. Okay, so we need at least one of the characters to hear the whispering, so this is the easy fix. Be sure to not set the DC any lower than the character with the lowest Passive Perception. I'm not a huge fan of passive perception, but this is a perfect spot to use it. I'm sure at least one character will have a passive score of 12 or higher. The Warding Wind spell... that's a bit more difficult. Reading through it, I also see that it "deafens" those within the area. Whoa... Won't hear any whispering that way, lol. But I would consider the mists "magical". The warding wind will simply create a whirlwind of 20 foot radius without mists, but wants the spell drops, the mists settle back into place. Hope this helps. Great question!

i used this idea but instead i made a second door that is closed, and pulling the lever removes the mist, and instead of a ring i made it were a key to that door and the other side is the ancient holly ovulation kobold chamber, that puzzle were a way to protect the chamber from intruders but the zone was took by troglodytes and then the solution was forgotten (and troglodytes are too idiot to solve it)
