Well when you have someone in it that can take control of the controls that analogy is perfect.

Incidentally, the helmsman is the one that steers the ship. Sips being the captain would mean Xanu controls the body while Sips tells him what to do. Which is in some ways what seems to be happening.

If I didn't know it wasn't there, I would definitely sit on it and go back and forth.

There's a few problems with this theory, though in fairness all of them are explained in a later episode. First, when Xanu takes full control of Sips' body, Sips' eyes turn black. This happens only a few times (during the fight you mentioned, and also when Sips "died" when he killed Bou Claire aka Potato Girl). Up until that point in the fight, Sips was controlled by Curse. Now you might argue that Xanu maybe wanted to kill Gothi himself but consider the next 2 points; Second, Xanu explains that when he was created by the Foreclaimers, Gothi was the only one who showed him kindness. The Foreclaimers are supposed to be devoid of empathy, any who exhibit empathy are seen as defective and the Foreclaimers were cold-hearted scientists and elitists. The only reason Gothi wasn't killed by her people is because she was the next Empress of the Foreclaimer empire. Third, Xanu explains to Sips that it takes both of them to hold Curse back. Xanu might be a soul god but he isn't strong enough to hold back Curse on his own. It likely took a huge effort on Xanu's part to take enough control of Sips' body to tell Gothi to run. Xanu even agrees with Sips that he would exclude Gothi from the genocide - why would he do that if he wanted her dead? It make much more sense for Xanu to be attempting to repay Gothi for her kindness by sparing her from the genocide and attempting to save her (she stood her ground against Curse even after Xanu told her to run, and only the arrival of Erina with a sleeping dart kept Gothi from near-certain death).

He specifically told gothi to run. He didn't try to kill her.

Also, when he faught her, it was the curse taking control

It's Gothi's race, he's friends with Gothi. he WON'T help so long as he has even a sliver of himself. That's probably what Xanu plans, to get Sips to 100% curse and use his body. :(

I run a campaing with some new players and one guy with his friend split from the party at the FIRST MOMENT WE PLAYED because he doenst wanna play the story i brewed and wanted to just make money and sell drugs... his friend just has no idea what to do and followed him ....... Am i a bad dm for wanting to force him in a fight with tiamat at level 2?

@@gioza6494 It doesn't always work but as a DM I have found success in giving the player something to love, if you know the player well enough then make a npc he will love having around, the kind that makes him wanna go see them again and again. then when he is close to them, tie them into the quest, put them in danger, make keeping that npc around reliant on him helping. this is a bit of my style of doing things as I like that method but it can work. Few things make a player more invested in the villain's downfall then when that villain takes something or someone the player loves away from them. It doesn't always work some players after all will just keep going murder hobo or the like, but this is just my feelings. Also you are not wrong to be frustrated with em :)
