Thank you for this! My dad was part of D-Day (and survived), a radarman aboard a destroyer escort, laying down cover fire for "the big girls". Most people don't realize it wasn't just one day, that the Normandy invasion went on for days. I have my dad's diary that he kept during that time; fascinating to read from his perspective, 1 month from his 19th birthday. He didn't like to talk about his experiences, but he was an eloquent writer.

Of all your videos that I have watched, the very best were those which were made in Normandy on-site. They were really poignant, excellently done and researched. These artifacts are the icing on that cake. If there are some who missed them I would suggest searching them out and lining them up for viewing.

Great items from Normandy. Years ago, when I was on a Normandy Recce before, we took a platoon of trainee soldier's out there for a tour my Father said to me if you see anything with barnacles stuck to it then it could be military. Whilst walking in the sand dunes bellow the American cemetery on Omaha, I found a ball shaped thing in the sand . I showed it to my Dad, and you could see a pineapple grenade beneath the shells. Well, we got it back, sent it to an expert, and he cleaned it up, and it is on display in my father's den. It was never primed. A great peace of history preserved for life. This was years ago, one of my father's friends tripped over a 30-caliber machine gun barrel in the sand on Omaha. The sea is always washing stuff up after big storms.

Hey JD - really interesting but I don’t think these are from Normandy, more like Dunkirk. The helmet is the early pattern rarely used by the British Army on D-Day, the gas mask is the pre-war pattern also not seen in use in 1944, and the rifle appears to be a SMLE not No 4. I’d say the mystery object is a 17-inch Wilkinson and Sword bayonet for the SMLE still in its scabbard. Tons of this gear was found along the Dunkirk coast about 30-40 years ago and I’ve seen it in almost every collection/museum in France. Have they x-rayed the rifle and mystery object?
