The part they don’t tell you is that the longer you live, the more friends you’ll have to say goodbye to.

My dad was 2weeks short of 91, he told me that he was so sad because all his friends that he cared about had gone own in and he could not wait to join them. He died after my mom, 1 month after he died my older brother died and 1 month after my brother died I had a aunt die and 1 month after she died my middle son 26 died so I know that it can get bad. But there is always hope.

He seems happy and grateful for his long life. Without a supportive and loving multi-generational family, a long life can be a curse. So happy for him and the very young in his family who get to experience him.

Instead of german we have arabic, rampant crime, a complete destruction of our shared heritage. We have been saved! I love statistics

Yeah, it seems bittersweet. I am sure he is very grateful for all of the life he has been gifted with. I am also sure he misses his Family and Friends who have transitioned over. It is tough being The First and/or The Last in any group. It just carries a different type of weight and responsibility. Bless his Heart & Soul.

He talks like a man who is waiting for the grim reaper, and he keeps getting passed by and doesn't know why,. And when he stumbles and starts stuttering when he speaks of all his buddies and how he feels blessed. But he knows it can't last forever, and who knows, maybe he was a volunteer one day, and given something to drink or swallow., So he did, and now he is a super soldier, and he is still in the shape of a young recruit, but his body ages slower. @@user-xs6cz5lf5r theirs plenty of WW2 Vet's in his shoes, especially from the pacific theater as we fought Japan way longer then Germany (and had way worse encounters too) Jocko did an interview about a year ago with a WW2 Vet that saw and survived basically every WW2 European theater battle, would highly suggest checking that out

I did two tours in Iraq as an Infantryman. Yeah we got into some firefights, blown up here and there. But this generation of men, they were involved in full kinetic peer to peer conflict. I cannot even imagine the horror of division on division combat like they saw. Truly the Greatest Generation. The world called on them to stop a tyrant, and they all stepped up.

@@tommygun4788 I hear ya, and appreciate your service. Didnt serve myself, but my two closest friends did, and my cousin. One marine infantry, another marine weapons specialist, and army diesel mechanic. All did a couple tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. For me, respect isnt earned necessarily by what you endured, but by the willingness to put your life on the line to serve your country. Although different degrees of what one goes through in combat will certainly affect their character.

Why should I remember this man's stories? Like, I really want to get in the head of an American who worships the ground their vets walk on so I can understand a little better. Remembering that the man that was next to him is dead doesn't help me at all. Remembering that he was in a specific city does nothing for me. Should we not remember the stories of the generals and leaders? After all, they were responsible for the war and it's outcome. They were the ones who sent people to die, the ones who decided who was saved today and who'd be saved tomorrow, the ones that had to work with foreign diplomats to alter the front, etc... I'm not saying soldiers didn't contribute, but they didn't decide anything beyond if they lived through that day. Their perspective won't prevent future wars. I don't remember every story of the bricklayer that bricked my house, but I still can look over the blueprints the architect and engineers left behind. I'm sure building the house wasn't an easy task, and I thank the bricklayer for his work, but I needed his hands, not his memories.

Some people, I dare to say most, get it. Clearly this Nathan guy doesn't. How unfortunate of a view point to look at life. Enjoy living upon your high horse oblivious to the world that passes you by.
