The fact this session was originally suppose to be a few hours and they had to force matt to condense his story into 30 minutes is the biggest shame.

Actually, not a big shocker that Vin Diesel enjoys D&D, I remember during one interview he said how he wants to buy a castle in Ireland so he can play D&D with his friends.

The DM can really make or break your immersion. Very impressed!

Watching Mercer transform from his DM’ing voice into a NPC in .5 seconds is insane, he literally becomes the characters.

Knowing that he planned to have this be a 2 hour adventure, then having it reduced to 20 min on the day itself puts this whole encounter in perspective. It explains why it's mostly just Mercer talking, he has to really stear this adventure with such a short time limit. But it also makes the performance by Mercer even crazier, his vocabulary, acting and descriptions are insane! And delivered with so much momentum

This was my first exposure to D&D two and a half years ago. It led me to Critical Role and from there I started my own group. We've been playing for two years now, and I can't thank these people enough for getting me into it.

I have been playing this game since 1987 and i always thought every group played with this level of enthusiasm. It wasn't until recently I started to see almost nobody does which i find really strange. The theatrics is a huge part of the game.

7:03 I played a game with a guy like that once. We were both rogues, but my character was born in a poorer area of a large city and spent most of his life in poverty. We came upon a situation similar to this, where the townsfolk offered us what he called a 'pittance' to deal with a threat. My character stepped forward, explained that we didn't need payment for the job, and would do it just to keep the townsfolk safe. My party were angry and demanded that I take the gold, but I insisted that I would pay them out of my own pocket. Later on, in a tavern, I questioned the rogue about why he wanted us to take the money and he spoke about wanting riches and fortune. I said that there's ways to get riches and fortune without pushing people further into poverty. My character was even shocked when the Lawful Good Paladin went along with taking gold from the townsfolk. The next game we had, the Paladin explained that he'd meditated on my words and vowed to follow my example. I play a neutral good rogue who steals from rich merchants and people but does whatever he can to help the downtrodden and destitute.

For all the people saying "Wow! This DM is amazing!" his name is Matt Mercer and he and several other trained voice actors have a weekly D&D show on called Critical Role. Matt is an amazing DM and he makes the 2.5 hour long videos fly by.

Matt Mercer is such a god like DM I just started playing DnD and to be honest DMing is my favorite and I hope to be as magnificent as Mercer is.

It was this video that made me 1) Aware of what D&D was all about, 2) Who Matt Mercer was, 3) Actively begin watching Critical Role and 4) Lose hundreds of hour watching a bunch of nerdy-@$$ voice actors play Dungeons and Dragons, Good times.

Mercer is the Tolkien of DM's. I really hope Kauldur has a cameo in "The legend of Vox Machina." They've already had a ton of celebrity's in the first 9 episodes. So I'm hoping on Diesel and Joe Manganiello to be in there one day. 💪😎 I remember years ago reading an interview with Vin Diesel when he was just becoming famous where he actually mentioned his affinity for Dungeons & Dragons, I was surprised at the time.

Something about D&D sessions like this are bringing up some ancient fundamental and deeply human thing about our human culture from our collective subconsciousness. I think humans for thousands of years were used to gather around the fire and tell each other stories just like a DM would to the players long before movies, but even books came into existence.

I see a lot of people amazed and surprised by Matt Mercer’s DMing and yes this how great DMs run their games! This is the tried and true old school way of dungeon mastering (without relying on miniatures and other table top visuals) It’s very much a theater of the mind! One of my old dnd groups had a DM very much like Matt and it was awesome! I would love to sit in on one of Matt’s games! 😄

This guy hits the nail when storytelling. I use to go into such detail like this guy. Other DM's that i played with never could own up.

I have been playing D&D for over 30 years and he is the best DM I have ever seen.

Man.......... Van diesel has just gone way up in my estimation. How cool are all you guys. I teach all the foster children who come to stay with us D&D. It helps them escape their stress. Having something like this is such a help. I cant thank you enough. Bravo!
