What does a sewing machine, a fan, and an old roller blade have in common? They all got used to create a rotary guitar speaker.

So in the end, it is a sewing machine case speaker! I once made a cardboard box to howse the guts of a push button phone for our daughters to use. It didn’t one out quite like I expected; it came out way better! We and all of their friends called it “the cardboard phone.” Hmmm. I wonder where it got to?

Great job! That thing is really cool. I didn’t realize the motor in a sewing machine was so beefy and noisy. It’s so the opposite when someone quietly sewing away on a working one. It’s been a while since your last video..great to see you posting again! ✌️🙂

I feel like cutting a hole in the cover, adding some grill cloth, and somehow integrating the power switch and jack would be a really cool next step. This is so cool!

Yeah I really debated that for awhile, but then you can't see everything move...haha

Well done, the baffle could use a scoop to better direct the sound. You will get a more pronounced doppler effect if you have the box closed off on 3 of the 4 sides.

Dude .... You are a genius. A madman with amazing ideas. I need to be your friend. That would be awesome. Lol. I need a few tools a disc sander, a band saw and a lathe. Even your smaller lathe in this video was cool too. Did you make that? :) I love your channel brother. And the fact that it's musically relative is even better.

Did you ever experiment more with this? I'm thinking about doing this kind of thing with a 12" speaker. I feel like if you covered more of the speaker with a round base and had a horn like exit you'd get more effect from it. Great project though!

Since you have completed the project you might have satisfied your creative itch, but I would like to recommend that you adapt this to a larger speaker, say a 12" Nice work, btw

@@MerwinMusic cool! So the shaded pole motor responds well too the sewing machine pedal? Guess I'll be adding some items to my junk wish list 😁

What you have made is NOT a rotary speaker it does not sound anything like a Leslie ...the speaker in your contraption does NOT rotate Many years ago I built a true Leslie type speaker where the speaker was built into the side of a drum that had a shaped port it was driven by a record player motor the whole thing rotated and gave a true Leslie sound...there is another way of getting the Leslie sound some old upright electonic organs ,Yamaha for example had a Leslie speaker built in I have such a unit somewhere I must find it ...kind regards from the U.K.
@MerwinMusic

The speakers themselves don't rotate in a Leslie either. The biggest difference between this and a Leslie is a Leslie has two sets of rotating baffles to create more warble than just wah wah. This is basically a mini Fender Vibratone but less people know what that is.
