I just knew that you two would crack up when Ren pulled that poncho over his head. Yes, he is hot. Great reaction, ladies. We are all part of the money game and also blind to it. Hence, the bagged guy represents all of us who are subjec to the money game but have no recourse to fight back in any reasonable way. Ren represents the one in power in this situation; he has money he has power and he controls the game to an extent. Drawing the eyes on the victem is symbolic of an awakening to the fact you are in the money game; a realization. The victem then fights back against power. Ren accepts his complicity in the game and his reliance on Greed to gain power. He then protests by self-immolation. We can only infer as the exact reasons why. Money Game 2 and 3 are amazing works of art. I cannot wait for you to watch those.
I'm with you until "the protest" at the end. I think "the system/ establishment" is see for what it is, loses protection and the whole system "burns". Ref MG 2 ... AND Animal flow. He's talking Revolution, or at very least systemic overhaul.
Sooo predictable you 2😂 I'm still waiting patiently for you to do Losing it, you can get in his pants then🤣🤣 Oh money game part 3, which is different to this money game part 3 is also a must and he's in a suit😉 You are falling behind with the long list of songs you haven't done yet!! Love you 2, keep up the good work girls. Love from England x
My take on this video is. The kidnapped individual was a 'defendant' in a 'trial' with the psychotic Ren accusing him and acting as Judge/Jury/Executioner. Ren's character, through the song, goes on to explain the individual's crime: being part of a money game - a twisted game where people are divided and suffering for the sake of wealth. People who are willing to exploit their peers get ahead, and other are forced to do bad things for survival. Each time he gets close to exacting punishment and killing his victim, he stops to continue explaining more ways we twist our lives for that wealth. He even symbolically draws eyes on the head sack to signify that the victim isn't blind to it: the captor has 'opened his eyes'. He has no excuse and deserves this punishment of death. Finally, with one final attempt to do the deed, Ren's character realized the futility of what he's doing. Looking in the mirror, as per the lyrics, he is also part of the money game. And so, he puts aside his holier attitude and burns himself to death instead. As he said, as assuredly as the whole world turns while playing this game, the whole world burns as well. It even gets deeper and more dark but, we only have so much time in a day to watch, react, and reply!
This was done before Ren was making money. According to an interview he did, they had two very cheap mics (you can tell by the background noise), and they were in the basement of a friend's apartment block. The second one is a lyric video because he couldn't really afford to film a live shoot. The third was done post fame and I'm happy he kept the theme, but you can tell by the extras that were hired and the quality of the mics.
This was actually filmed on Brighton seafront, in a section where the old metal arches are rusting away so the council closed under the metal arches, hence the black metal railing. Ren had to get permission to go inside the closed off section. The background noise you hear is the sea! The waves hitting the pebble beach. The music videos filmed in a basement are Hi Ren, Sic Boi & Chalk Outlines. ❤
Nothing better than having history lesson from Ren … I had to laugh when it came to Ren pulling off the poncho, yes he said he started working out with weights, to keep himself and his joints and muscles healthy due to the Lyme disease on his Instagram he posted a while back I love his 3 part trilogy videos I love the part 3 one he did a fantastic job . I had to laugh on part 3 he was so excited and thankful he had for a first time a budget for lights on a video He said he was writing a new story line .. Looking forward to it …
This song is more commentary about Western culture as a whole, politics do play a role in culture but it also encompasses other aspects like lifestyle, religion, and capitalism. The failure to recognize history's lessons contributes to an ongoing cycle that can only be broken by actualization and a common goal for a better world. That's what I get from this song
Sad I don't see Becca in these comments :( I saw on one of the other Ren reactions that she was giving him a shot and I was looking forward to hearing how she's liking him so far. Maybe next time!! This song is so good though, I love his singing in this song specifically, like the way it just flows so nicely. Self-immolation has always been such an interesting idea to me, like when people do it, it's obviously sad but also fascinating when thinking about why people do it and if it even makes a difference with what they are doing it for. I don't know, I just thought it was interesting to see him show that at the end.
If you'd react to 'Losing It' you'd know how he looks while running, sort of ;) You two are funny. Good reaction, if the lyrics went over your head in this one, you won't miss the message in part 2, just make sure it's the music video, rather than the live spoken word version, you'll see why.
Parts 2 and 3 will assist with the hood/eyes thing, and Ren leaves a good deal of interpretation to us, but i think u are close...also the musician had his eyes drawn for him, so that can be multi layered symbolism.
People deep in the money game don't realise they are in the money game, they cant see it, I think the money bag over their heads reflects that.. BTW Ren roped Romain (the other guitarist from The BIg Push) to play the guitar in this video.
That is a money bag around his head. He can see through it but, for the purpose of this performance he was blind. It took many takes to get this right, 186 takes according to Ren but he may have lost count. This video was recorded in a storage unit by the beach in Brighton. That accounts for the ambient noise and the breeze. A word of advice or a request for part two: please do the lyric video and not the live video. The live version is incomplete and there is no music.
